The Ford GT90 was the godfather on "New Edge" design and a testbed for future technologies, such as car, lane sensor warning. The focus and ford KA came after and then the Cougar. Basically the new Mercury V6 cougar. I have the SVT 3.0 litre version, which produces 202bhp 0.60 7 sec. Not much but great fun. CHASSIS from ford Taurus (mondeo).

I'm on my second Cougar C1, it's my daily driver, an Xpack auto, with course control (auto only), heated seats, heated screen, sunroof, 63k on the clock and still going strong, it's also green and it's a joy to drive.

Great video, and as a Cougar owner I'm happy to see it! Couple of things though...
By default It's an ST24, pushing out 175BHP when new. At 20 years old, they ain't doing that anymore. But you can easily - and cheaply - convert it to a mostly ST200 spec at the UIM/LIM end. You won't get the 210BHP that the ST220 setup promises without a remap, but the physical conversion is shockingly fast for what it is. Cheap, too!
Lowering is worthwhile, but front and rear strut-braces are key if you want handling without compromising drivability.
Anyway, I know you've moved on now but I wanted to represent UK Cougar. If you ever want to re-visit and have some fun, please let me know.

I just bought my second Cougar a week ago,I don’t know when you did the review, but my immaculate looking green Cougar V6 is now 21 years old.No rust! Amazing! I bought it for £650 in Stornoway.I am not mechanically minded,65 Year’s old,and so delighted to buy this beautiful car. If I get a year out of it,I will be grateful, but would be awful to let it down now! Some things don’t work with electrics, but nothing that matters!

my v6 manual began with a hole in the bottom of the sill about the size of a pea , after diging all of the rust out it turned into a channel about 1" 1/2 wide running nearly the full length of the sill. other side wasnt as bad but bad enough , had both rusted from the inside out and the only reason it wasnt apparent was because of the wonder zink rustproofing . looked everywhere for replacement sills , ford / jaguar couldnt find anything close to which would fit so ended up going to the breakers yard still looking near enough brand new ! owned it from 2002 - 2014 one of the best cars ive ever owned went like stink and still has my land speed record of 140+mph . so tempted to get another while theyre cheap but ive got a project on atm and the car im using is the follow on project .

I special ordered a 99 color was spruce green like a gray color. for my ex wife. I had the v6 5 spd manual transmission. felt like it needed an extra gear in the transmission for highway driving. Handled great threw turns, peppy for what it was. I think they would have done better keeping it v8 engine lost. Thx for the memories. Keep up the good content

Owned two of these over the years - 168 bhp - Auto was always quite a bit slower - 129 mph top speed and 0 to 60 in 9ish secs. The manual 5 speed did 140mph and 0 to 60 in 8 secs. Quite a bit faster.

I have an almost immaculate, low mileage V6 manual X pack. I absolutely love it, it's as though it was made for me. I sold a 2013 Mercedes C220 AMG, and bought the Cougar as a stop gap car as I always like them. Now I'm smitten and it's my everyday car.

I worked for a Ford dealership in Stourbridge when this came out. It fell to me to pick up a V6 from Birmingham for the showroom. In OZ and owned a Probe (which was a fun toy) then moved to the Cougar which is my favourite car. As done in the video, the boot deserves a big mention. I've transported 7ft xmas trees in my car. The drive on the open road is supreme and I invested in doing mine up recently rather than buying a new car. Most parts require some research from Australia and the suspension is probably the pain point as you need to do some importing, but love it and almost want to redo a little bit of it here and there to bring it up to perfection again.

The automatic version for the v6 is awful and a manual is superior. Here in the states where I live a guy who owned an automatic had it rebuilt or replaced over 4 times. My manual v6 has over 200k miles with just a fluid change.

Good video. I have mine still... with an ST200 engine. The ST24 never had the 3.0 duratec... it also was a 2.5. The Cougar also was NOT built in Detroit. It was built in Flat Rock Michigan... close to Detroit but not exactly Detroit. Built in the same factory as the Ford Mustang and my other car... the Lincoln Continental.

ALL!! Ford Cougars sold in Europe, the UK and Australia were made in the USA. None were made in Europe. They are a straight Detroit USA design and made. Interestingly, our Aussie Cougars were made in the USA, sent to Ford Germany in Cologne, converted to Right Hand Drive, and sent to the UK and Oz. Real World tourists.

@@kramrollin69not really. Other than being built stateside, everything is European, mostly german, like the styling and design, the gearbox, engine 4 cylinder is British and v6 is originally a porsche design which was bought and cast by cosworth, it being based upon the mondeo, hence why it was a driver.

Nice review. They are fun cars. We have one in Oz too. We've done a 3.0 conversion though, with the 5 speed and an LSD. They are not a big engine, actually the blocks are tiny V6, But the Heads are huge, naturally. So all you see at the top is the heads and manifold. Same as the Coyote/Miami we have here in Falcons/Mustangs, they look huge, but it is just the heads.
Get a Cougar while you can, there is plenty of info on various forums.
