Great video. I appreciate the research, as disheartening as it is. The left has lost the plot with these initiatives. If I had to find a positive angle, I'd say that even though we are far away from an acceptable state of affairs, we are close to a turning point. Gamers are more informed and wary than ever and continue to vote with their wallets. The imminent Trump presidency (knock on wood) will hopefully see the beginning of a process to reign in some of the left's excesses, such as diversity hiring, men being allowed to participate in women's sports and sex change being inflicted on children. These are much bigger issues than some silly political pandering in games, but clearly this stuff trickles down to the games industry, so fixing them should have a knock-on effect.
Wow, I wrote a comment speculating on what might happen in the near future and youtube just straight up removed it lol I'm not gonna type it out again but suffice it to say not all hope is lost. Gamers are more informed and wary than ever and continue voting with their wallets. The imminent presidency of a certain man in America will also hopefully cause some of the left's excesses to be reigned in and a semblance of normalcy restored. Here's hoping that it trickles down to entertainment!
What's really fucked is that Sega's developers in Japan are forced to take orders from the American localization team. These people shouldn't even be allowed near any game, let alone dictating how they're made.
@@jase276 Nintendo hasn't been as bad about it actually, heck they didn't censor Zero Suit Samus, Krystal and such in Smash Brothers. I also never see American politics in their games.
Japan should just make games for the Japanese and Westerners _will_ buy them. This attempt to appeal to what consulting companies and DEI departments claim are Western sensibilities just annoys everyone in their audience.
The problem is the same as in the west, the Japanese have stopped listening to their audience and instead listen to "market analysts" and those are all activists.
I'll just say it, There is nothing diverse or inclusive about censorship, It's just American puritanical brainrot so please stop dragging minorities Who probably wanted an uncensored experience through the mud.
This is what happens to any business once it becomes publically traded in the stock market. Shareholders take over and all they want is profits *at the expense* of the user base.
@@pll9000 If that's true, then why wasn't this an issue 15 years ago, even in America where *every* company larger than Ma and Pa's Corner Store was publicly traded? The truth is most shareholders not named Larry Fink *also* hate this crap because it's actively losing them money.
@@salsaspartan7 Basically, when companies starts doing things like DEI and other similiar stuff, if you look who has recently bought a big share of their company, its the same investors. Usually Blackrock, but there are others.
@@salsaspartan7 There are a handful of very rich investors trying to influence behaviors in society. To the degree they say they may have to force them. They are so, nauseatingly rich that they can fund games, movies and articles at a loss in order to achieve this goal. It's no longer simply about making money anymore. It's about correcting social order, this is the goal of ESG, and DEI.
Physical or not doesn't really matter, it's DRM that matters. There are tons of ways to buy games on PC you own the files of and can launch them from any drive or folder on any PC with no external service attached.
And Amy Rose was always a very comical character. Without her comedy, she's now just a typical token, girl character, who's just there to be the girl character. Though, I do wonder if the reason Sega "toned down" Amy was because fans were complaining for years of her "being a creepy stalker" to the point Amy can't act attracted to Sonic at all now. So that may also be why Sega did it. The game has already sold a million copies, so unfortunately it looks like future rereleases of Sonic games will be further changed... I now no longer want remakes of Sonic Adventure 1&2 sadly... Who knows what they'll change. (They'll probably censor Maria's, or rewrite her as alive or something now, because "nothing bad can ever happen to a girl" in today's writing rules.)

Fanservice was a shallow concept anyway. I have no problem with it leaving tbh. What I hate is the rampant censorship and inclusions that take precedence over actual good writing and world building. Killing the possibility of larger metaphors, jokes, crude depictions. Artists funnily enough are not being able to express themselves in more ways.
"I have no problem with it leaving" And thats where the problem begins. People being apathetic when they came for the others because "it had nothing to do with them", and then they go surprised Pikachu face when they come for something they do care about. (Look up "They came for me poem" if you don't get what I'm on about)
@@ॐIo You're part of the problem with that mindset. Free speech and expression only works when things you don't like are also allowed to get out there.
@@ॐIo They always take away small little things you didn't care about until you actually realize they have taken so many other things out that you thought was also uneccessary and now the game itself is the "shallow concept". But the engine will eventually fall apart when you start to take away more and more of those small little things.
Remember when Capcom tried to actively appeal to the western market with DMC: Devil May Cry and it was mocked beyond belief? Then Devil May Cry 5 returned to its roots and became the best game in the franchise. Similar thing happened with Resident Evil. Capcom is an a constant loop of: doing good japanese games> tries to appeal to the westners> game sells like shit> goes back to japanese roots
They have a short memory. Flopspoken cost SE 200mi and their flagship studio. A 3 months ago they release a ff14 xpac about a girlboss full of woke bs. Execs are too busy sniffing sugar from someone's tainted crevice.
@@limoncio7036 Keiji Inafune was the one who convinced Capcom to appeal to the West, because at the time western games were selling more than Japanese games. Devil May Cry 4 didn't met Capcom's sales expectations, so they thought in order for it to sell better appeal to the west.
Haha happened to Ace Combat with Assault Horizon. They even outright had "Call of Duty in the air" as part of their marketing material. You cannot make this up. Then then went back to the roots in Ace Combat 7. It now has become the best-selling game in the franchise, surpassing Ace Combat 04, which was a "Greatest Hits" title.

What are you talking about ? The amount of censorship that Capcom does to their games is astonishing. There are even examples in this video, Dead Rising and the Capcom Fighting Collection were censored and the SNK fighting game and Mega Man Battle Network Collection had that disclaimer at the start ! Ashley's and Ada's outfit were censored in RE4 Remake, RE4 VR was censored, SFV censored Mika's ass slap, do you want me to keep going ? Yes they added one outfit woop dee doo, that doesn't fix the deluge of censorship they've done. Let's not extend that to general anti-customer practices like adding Denuvo to 15 year old games when they released on PC (Persona 4) as well as every new game and retroactively adding Enigma DRM to games that didn't include DRM.
china also make big oppai games, majority of them are gacha games but you can find some that's normal games like Bright Memory Infinite (FPS that receive 3rd Person view update recently), Killing Antidote, Phantom Blade Executioners, Bloody Spell, etc
I used to be a comic book guy. Comics are about ten years deeper into this crap than video games. I used to think, EVENTUALLY after all the lost sales, lost fans, lost cultural relevance, that they'd turn things around just out of a sense of self preservation. ...Nah. Hopefully the high overhead costs of gaming can make game companies take failure more seriously than comics, because if not we are in for a grim future. Trust me, I've seen it.
Games will not fall like comics, because it has at least 1000 times a bigger market and more producers. So it cannot be monopolized like comics (DC/Marvel) And given that gaming is the last standing media, and indies are still rising (autistic devs can make masterpieces), I genuinely cannot see gaming succumbing to this. Case in point: AAA is constantly losing sales, fans, cultural relevance etc, but their players move on to better games ;)
@@ScouterVee Great job with the videos. Hopefully the effort pays off, because this quality of video is rare in this corner of RUclips. As for comic recs, you can't go wrong with Jim Zub's Conan the Barbarian. Modern day classic. ...Well, you technically CAN go wrong with it, lol. Marvel had the rights to Conan for a bit recently and had Jim Zub writing it. It's good, but tamed. Then the rights holders took it back and went indie, and gave Jim another crack at it without Marvel's HR department watching over him. Fantastic stuff. Will put hair on balls reading it.
That interview with Horie later being removed by SE really speaks for how badly they're trying to defend their current course, though it's liable to blow up in their faces if they're working against their own developers *and* aggravating their established fanbase.
Thank You Vee for talking about ESG. So many people never mention the main cause of the problems which is ESG. These companies will do and have done ANYTHING for just a tiny bit more of that sweet ESG money. The main problem and the thing which has done the most damage to the gaming industry, is the DEI hiring. Once you replace your original talent and stop bringing in more passionate talent, then the end result will always be crap. No matter how many of them you put together, no matter how much time and money you throw at them. All the people which made our beloved games of the past and made the studios who they are today, are long gone. You'll still find the passion and creativity in Japan, which is currently in danger thanks to these companies heavily chasing the ESG money now too. The Indie-Scene is where the passion moved to and where creativity still flourishes. They pump out so many gems for such little money compared to AAA games.
Sorry to inform you that Indies other than single person indies are also after that ESG money, particularly small companies in China,Taiwan and Japan who don't know any better and get brainwashed by these companies making them believe that they really must add ESG crap in order for their product to do well in the west , and many asian devs believe that western culture really is "twitter culture" because some company told them so, Asian companies are doing their own thing and are usually not aware that the west is tired of ESG crap. The same is true for big companies in Asia, they get brainwashed thinking its the right thing to do because they are told that the majority of the west gets offended easily when really it's just a minority of people, so this is a matter of more companies being aware of this stuff, or actually Producers and higher ups being aware of this, because these are the ones who get persuaded by ESG people.
The D unironically stands for discrimination and the E for exclusion. These people literally pick what is and what isn't put into games just by filling checkboxes, instead of naturally creating art. So what the end product becomes is something no one with a brain wants to touch, because it has no soul or passion behind it.
@@ScouterVee Oh I see. Welp, I just meant that your channel was on the top of the tier list but if the reference somewhat conveys the same meaning then we can pretend that it was a reference 😅
@ScouterVee i don't remember my weekend much, just remember playing with guns and drinking. Hope you had a great weekend, and a better one next weekend!
Seeing more and more people talking about this stuff brings me one bit of hope: the pendulum is swinging again. I don't even particularly care about "having gore" or "having sexy stuff" in the games but rather I just want the original artist's intent to show through, whether that's in image or speech. Dipped my toes in more recently into the whole "localization vs translation" stuff and it only ever just makes my eye twitch when I see a Japanese-made character say "no cap" or something like that.
^This. The point is if someone wants to do something for them to have the ability to see it through without external influence from bad actors. Boobies galore ? Yes sir ! Minimal fanservice with the focus elsewhere ? That too ! In addition, as you say, we have to get rid of the cringe localizers that keep destroying characters and games by altering the original creator's intent !
At least we don't have to spend a lot of money on video games going forward, I don't mind replaying old games after work. Classics never die, don't need no remaster.
@@orangeslash1667 But the thing is, fans are the only people who actually cares about these games. General public will buy it be it censor or non-censored, they don't care. So why spend money and effort on censoring games and hiring all these crazies, when you can just release a game how it was, and lose nothing?

@YARGGG_GG Because no right wing or independent activists bothered to learn Japanese and get jobs there.
@@rinslittlesheepling1652 Sadly when it comes to making big budget games, good reception isn't enough. If a game's sales doesn't meet a companies exception. The IP will die or be turned into something else. AAA companies feel it's far more profitable to appeal to the general public than niche fans. For example Dragon Quest is popular in Japan but not the states. Not helping matters unlike Japan, America is a bit more sensitive to fan service. So they censored it to an appeal to a wider audience. This is why indie companies are important because they can afford to appeal to just fans.
Fun Fact: Did you know the CCP (China) invested $4.5 TRILLION USD into ESG last year, and most likely went higher this year? Makes sense why games from the West (and recently Japan) is now being sterilized. while their own games (Wukong) is not? Really makes ya think!
Chinese ESG investments are mostly in the form of "green loans", for actual environmental improvements, like using solar energy. Although this is also under "ESG" umbrella, it doesn't seem to have any connection to DEI and shit like that.
yes well one of my crackhead theory is that they're doing it to sabotage western developers so bad their stocks go down like it did with Ubisoft and then take over the gaming industry behind the scene, tencent already owns a good chunk of shares in almost all the major gaming companies in the west so it's not hard for them to spread their influence.
Yes and I don't think it's purely a coincidence that a lot of notable Japanese game devs have been leaving their companies in recent years. Kamiya, Mikami, Itsuno, Nagoshi, Mori. Are the reasons for their departure because of DEI or ESG? Maybe not entirely, but it's become obvious that the Japanese gaming industry has become much more sterile and corporate. DEI and ESG are absolutely a part of that equation. These guys didn't perfect their craft just to have some losers who don't even like videogames tell them how to do their job.
Some of them should make their own game company (like how Leslie Benzies, a former lead member of Rockstar Games is doing) and keep it small enough or hide the profitability from SBI company or its bootlickers or DEI dope pushers, otherwise they will come tails wagging and drooling like a shameless eff face to intrude in its operations. And one more thing, never make the industry public and issue shares, that takes the authority from the owners to the shareholders who barely know anything about the industry they invest in and they become the actual reason for the downfall, and then they have the audacity to take a dig at the company itself in which they invested their money after they did some disastrous decisions in board meetings or AGMs.
This video is both GREAT and depressing. Love your style my man. I hate what is currently happening with games from Japan. It seems to be happening in their politics to. Slowly but surely.
The thing gamers need to understand is that these activists are not as foolish as you think because this has been a tactic of Cawmunists for a long time. When these activist say they are pandering to a modern audience, what they actually means is that they are curating for a future audience. These activists are shoving DEI into everything and hedging their bets that your grand kids will whole-heartedly buy into this ideology until the small minority of activists becomes the small majority, then the small majority eventually becoming a sizable majority. It's as very sinister as it sounds because that's how cawmunists "reprogram" enough of a populations where it eventually ends with people mass logging out those who disagree with the collective think with rocks. Gena corano was 100% right on warning about this.
It honestly sounds scary, but using social justice, and "sins of the father" tactics to shame people into accepting the new activism ideal, is nothing new. Oftentimes evil regimes, and empires start from good intentions, it's happened in history many times. Because so many now are ignorant of history don't see it, or can't do anything about it, because they get labeled something bad if they disagree with the ideology. It's getting to a point we can hardly criticize communism anymore without people thinking you're a "radical right-winger," even if you aren't right wing at all.
I think the censorship and ESG agenda comes more from big Japanese companies, if you like nicher games Japan still stands strong, sadly this can't be sad for the big Japanese studios.
What? TFD, BrownDust2 and other Korean games clearly show they don't care about any ESG nonsense. Entire Nexxon that hold entire Korean gaming business in hands is against ESG, they use it only to bankrupt western companies to buy them for pennies like they did with Ubisoft.
Japan needs to start doing everything in-house. Localization, translations, everything. Keep the West out of the creative process. They should be looking at the manga industry that's been _demolishing_ western comics. We don't want our junk, we want their art.
I've been replaying Ninja Gaiden Sigma and it's been a wonderful breath of fresh air. The story and controls are easily forgiven when compared next to modern games.
Although, the Sigma games in the newer Master collection were censored. Sigma 1 released with no decapitations (which from what I've read were re-introduced via patch, but I consider this unacceptable even if true) and Sigma 2 lacked gore.
The controls are amazing though? Seriously 20 years later they still hold up and give you crazy precision. And just wait til you get to the second one, it's even smoother
@@giannisc.5254Yeah what happened to Sigma 2 was very sad, the explanation given back then was supposedly the PS3's lack of power but I fail to see how making blood blue would help. Thankfully on PC you can restore the blood and gore to the MC version
They view it as an acceptable sacrifice. These activist clowns genuinely believe that they're ushering in a new world once they've destroyed everything from the past. They believe in Tabula Rasa so they assume that all humans are blank slates who need to be social engineered what to think. That's why they push hard for body positivity (Fata$$es) & all that gay stuff, they think heterosexuality is a social construct.
The easiest answer to this problem would be just us not buying any games… yes, ANY games. We stop buying games, the market crashes and burns… THEY get the message. I myself am only buying older games at this point, collecting games I’ve always wanted to play… PS2, PSP, PS3, PS Vita, PS4. There’s so much good stuff there.
It's truely sad that these companies are trying to fill themselvs with women who dont even care. If it was talented women who love games and gamers thats one thing but its the complete opposite of that!
I used to think the japanese were such chads for making what they wanted with no regard for the opinions of foreigners, especially the ones that arent even gonna play the games. Capcoms clownery opened my eyes to how bad things have gotten even in the east.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: this is only going to push people away from buying new games. Most of the games I've been playing the past couple years have been older games. Most of my friends who game play older titles too. Why spend 70+ dollars on a censored remake of an old game when I can just play the original (for free or heavily discounted price) and have a significantly better experience?
@@mrbanks456 We've already started to see massive remake titles underperform or, in some cases, completely flop. You can enjoy whatever games you want, but customers have already started voting with their wallets. It'll swing back the other way within the next 10 years.
@@mrbanks456 I never said every single remake title is flopping. But I agree that the budgets are too big now. Even more reason for developers to do everything they can to maximize sales. And if the trend ends up being censorship = less sales then it's kind of obvious what the industry is going to do in order to course correct.
2:48 Kirche always goes in-depth when it comes to the topic of ESG. I suggest anyone who wants to know all the details about the subject, check out her videos.
Its really sad what gaming is turning into its supposed to be a escape from the real world and Im tired of them injecting real world problems into my entertainment
For about 5 years now I have only bought games secondhand just to make sure the companies do not get money from me. I will continue to do so into the future. I have resorted to just about pirating everything else because I don't trust a single company.
I suggest, if you want to start countering this, everyone needs to start sending letters to complain about these censorship changes. The studios in Japan do listen to letters, especially when they're flooded with them at their mailbox. If enough people start speaking up we could have them scrap their detrimental localization departments and end the ESG dictates from on-high.
Ah yes, the hiring based off of diversity rather than ability... What could possibly go wrong?! Screw that person who's super talented and can do great things, let's hire someone else who isn't as talented just to meet a quota... Ya know what imma apply to these woke companies... For science
@ oh well it is the beginning of the end for every company that pushes this. They will regret this action soon. The financial backing will stop when they see how there is no future in it and surely it will be too late.
What I can't understand, is how all of these companies are getting away with openly discriminating against people. How are they not drowning in lawsuits, or even going to PRISON?
Capcom died when SFV almost tanked the company. That's when they went fully in bed with Sony, JUST as Playstation pulled out of Japan and went full into California. Capcom has always been a westaboo so it's no surprise they went all in on the ESG stuff
Capcom is doing the best there ever done now.every new release breaks a new record and I guarantee you monster hunter is going to do amazing.you guys are fighting an Imaginary enemy.
Voting with our wallets seem to be the only effective strategy we have at the moment, but at least it is strong enough to make our voices heard and make big enough waves to prove our point. It will only be a matter of time before the investors themselves begin to question these practices and force a revert back to the old ways to appease the ones who actually play games so they can make money again.
...And it all started when people allowed lolicon stuff being bullied out because "muh think about children". People get what they are fucking deserve, spinless cowards.
@@Erokami1587 I hate how since the 80's anime have started to normalize sexist / double standard tropes against men in a lot of shows, like making the male characters look dumb and weak in comparison to the women or have a character who says bad things about women and is treated like a villain or at least a jerk worth of some punishment but when the female character is highly sexist / misandrist nothing bad happens to her in most cases like if she wasn't a chauvinist jerk herself, not all anime have this problem but a lot of potential great shows were ruined to me because of this unnecessary sexism towards their main audience.
Apparently Japan has been accepting muslim immigrants too. I wonder what will happen when the rainbows meet them, truly a question for the ages. Coincidentally crime has been rising lately. What a conundrum, surely there's some answer to it...
I was not aware of some of this stuff, especially the DEI hirings of people that can't even speak Japanese or have no minimum qualifications... This trend of ESG/Bridge/DEI workplaces has no future. It's not profitable let alone sustainable. As a gamer I am tired of their shit and I just don't buy them. I either wait to watch gameplay or don't buy it at all and go back to play my old awesome games ... And yeah watching some DBZ why not!
It's not. Many companies are dropping their DEI policies amid labor cuts. I believe Toyota just announced they're dropping it. The low interest rates of the 2010s made it easy to buoy unqualified workers, but a lot of companies are trying to go lean now and need to shed dead weight and a dead policy.
AAA Japanese dev should have close down their western division that is (often) located in california when all the esg/dei madness happened and caused the sales failure of many western AAA titles
Pretty much. Less of a ideological/political agenda and more of a business agenda that...really doesn't care about what audiences (arguably even ones who are supposedly being pandered to) think.
This is why everything seems so sterile bland looking the same and safe, especially nowadays within games media. Censorship is the death of creativity and actual progress, which is the main reason have always despised it so much. Age ratings on media while having some issues were also put in place for a reason :-)
I know folks have been saying "things were better back in my day" for about as long as humans have existed, but I really think it is true that things were better in a lot of ways in the late 90s and 2000s when I was growing up compared to today. Sure, we have better technology now, but the economy sucks for the average person, gaming and social media have sold out to the lowest common denominator, and we're left mostly with nostalgia for how great things used to be. There still are and will always be great things of course to enjoy, but we really have left a lot of good things behind too. We have shinier graphics than ever, but worse art and art direction. We have less content for more money than ever before in the average game. Multiplayer games have become infinitely less social and far more censored than ever before. Even games made in entirely different countries for entirely different audiences are once again being censored, and while in the past censorship was done to appease "Christian values" nowadays it's being done to appease "modern audiences." Keep up the good work in calling this sort of thing out in any case. Hopefully things will shift again, but the only way that will happen is if people aren't so apathetic to this stuff.
> past censorship was done to appease "Christian values" And it was also extremely small, and mostly done out of respect as well. Not to push an agenda.
I stopped supporting it and have been trying to voice my opinion as much as possible. The amount of people fighting this stuff has gone up every year! Just keep on fighting.
It was imposed top down by the State and it will take State intervention to break, in other words you're gonna have to get more involved in politics and start getting legislation against these practices or not even that really just enforce the laws that already exist, this whole practice is essentially one giant extortion racket in need of a crackdown and they get State funding too which is why they never seem to run out of money no matter how many flops pile on, they take it out of our social security retirement funds, I'm not kidding that's actually what they do.
Not sure if some of those companies are in the US, but doubling a referrel for a POC can be considered hiring discrimination. The only way to get these companies to back off is to hurt their revenue. It is unfortunate that these consultant groups have successfully snake oiled their way into the gaming industry, on solving a problem that doesn't exist and promising the company a positive financial forecast on top of the ESG credit they get when they qualify for ESG funds. Globalization is the bane to business and countries.
Japan isn't ruining their games, but the ESRB and political localizers are. There have been countless examples of localizers changing subtitles to stuff that completely changes the context of what was said in Japanese. Some companies like Square Enix want that ESG money, so they put slop in their games just to comply. This is a recipe for disaster as the majority of real gamers hate everything that has to do with Black Rock, ESG and DEI. I'll be completely honest. If Square Enix dies and all that's left is FF14, I'll be happy with that. Square has made some really dumb decisions this past decade, like getting into NFTs, disastrous mobile games, and censoring Tifa in Final Fantasy Remake (but not Rebirth thank god, excluding the scene where they covered up her cleavage when she was 14, that's fine imo). In fact, if all AAA games die because of DEI and ESG, I'm satisfied with that. China denied all of that and they gave us Black Myth Wukong. South Korea denied that and gave us Stellar Blade. If AAA games need to die so that video games can go back to being passion projects for people who want to tell an amazing story with immersive gameplay, then I'm fine with that.
No need. There's TONS of amazing media from the past. I doubt we could play all the good games, read all the good manga and watch all the good anime in our entire lifetimes
I didn't even bother with avatar creator so I didn't realise either. I just went with default dude because I 99% of the time don't care at all about character creators. And yes, just like you I thought the game was safe since all actual Tekken characters look great. Then again Bamco has recently announced their ESG push. So RIP Tekken and Tales, they can be buried next to SoulCalibur and God Eater
I still do not know why this companies care about this BS. They avoid risk, by not making new, intresting games or do not give enough time to passioante dev team to finish their stuff, but can spend a lot of money for something, which is going to fail for sure, without doubt or at least sell worse, than it should.

If you described the content in the original dragon ball and then asked people whether or not they would approve of allowing everything in it, they wouldn't. Content standards are standardized. Don't blame individual cogs for how the machine was designed. Even with best intentions, there are flaws.
Damn I hadn't even noticed that about the Tekken 8 avatars, though I did find it weird how even the cutest girls have shoulders a tad too wide, apart from Reina and maybe Azucena. At least the female models for MGS Delta seem to have been fixed from the ultra masculine trailer. "My wallet is non-buynary" is probably the best phrase that has come out these recent times.
Got to this late as I was busy, but you really nailed a lot of different things here without being too heavy handed. Good stuff man, really entertaining.
South Korea and China are mostly PC gaming markets (besides mobile stuff). Japan mostly just went mobile + Nintendo first-party games. That's why they feel the need to appeal to other markets so much - upon deeper analysis, if you don't count gacha/Nintendo, their own market is kinda cooked; AAA doesn't sell there almost at all. That's why PC gaming/indies - and 'maybe' some Asian AAA titles - are likely the future. China will have a much greater influence on the market than now in 10-20 years' time, Wukong was just the first step (well, besides all the HoYo games).
South Korea will be the last, because they are already silently fighting for a long ass time. Their feminists are just as vile as western (if not more), but dudes are fighting back, because gaming companies run by profit-chasers, and not people who graduated from commie-controlled US\UK unis.
Because of this, I no longer play any of these "Japanese" games. Vote with your wallets! Capcom= I'll play Monster Hunter Wilds but if the armor sets are not up to par with Worlds then it's goodbye for Monster hunter and Capcom as a whole. Square Enix= No. I'm done with SE forever. Konami= I'll try MGS3 remake but if I sense any censoring I'm also done with them Bandai Namco = No. It seems even Tekken 8 is far less sexy than before. I'm done. But if they revive Soul Calibur, I'll try it, and if it is treated similarly to Tekken, then I'm truly done. Fromsoftware= I'll play their games forever. The only DEI in it is the Type body thing. I trust in Miyazaki. Kojima= Nothing can penetrate Kojima "artistic vision" So his game will be fine. All of these made me no longer interested in playing most Japanese games anymore... Truly disappointing... Although most of it is predatory, Korean games have a bright future. Chinese games are the true future of Asian games. Even though there's some censorship, it has nothing to do with DEI, just the government so I'm fine with that. Right now even their Gacha games have better art, story, and gameplay than any Japanese games that I've played in these past years plus with zero DEI. Goodbye Japan, Hello China.
Dude, what are you on with this "I'll try it and then I'm done". You realize that if any of those games promote censorship you will be validating it by buying them, right? Nobody has ever died for waiting one week after the release of a game to buy it, to make sure its not censored...
It's Chinese money behind all of the ESG. They use it to tank companies then can buy them up for pennies (just look at Tencent circling like a vulture over the corpse of Ubisoft)
@@SThePacket Censorship has existed in JP games as long as I'm alive. Literally, EVERY JP Games has Censorship when they released it outside of JP. DEI censorship is something new but the amount it can be tolerated is varied between games. If it's too apparent I'll not buy it, I'll skip it without any doubt as I've done with every Square Enix game. If it's not too egregious, the only way to know how to feel if censorship affects my gameplay is sometimes I just need to play it myself. Like I said if it's something little like just "Body Type" then I'm fine with it. Capcom right now is 50/50 on DEI and sexiness in their games so sometimes it just balances it out but not enough for me to buy their games. The last time I bought Capcom games was Monster Hunter Rise, the new MH Wilds is full of DEI but after testing the Beta, I don't feel it hampers my enjoyment of the gameplay that much. Still, I need to see the future armor to make my decision, though the armor they gave in the Beta is kinda good. By the way, what I meant when I said "I'm done" is: "I'll never buy any games made by the game studio EVER, even if they get rid of DEI censorship in the future" This decision is very important to me that's why I'll give them a chance to change my mind.
There is already a change happening in the industry. Great Games without DEI crap came out this Year. Space Marine 2, Wu Kong, Stellar Blade and there are a lot more on the Horizon like KCD 2 next Year. Woke Games are failing left and right. People are realizing more and more about what’s going on in the industry and that’s a good thing. I think this Year is a turning Point and we will see more and more developers turning their back on DEI and actually want to make good games and MONEY again✌️ Oh and by the way, there are so many great indie games out there that don’t give a crap about politics. We actually don’t need AAA companies 😅
The corporatization of videogames (which is what this is reflecting) is the worst thing to have happened to the industry. I'm so glad I grew up during the golden age of gaming.

Wow, I wrote a comment speculating on what might happen in the near future and youtube just straight up removed it lol
I'm not gonna type it out again but suffice it to say not all hope is lost. Gamers are more informed and wary than ever and continue voting with their wallets. The imminent presidency of a certain man in America will also hopefully cause some of the left's excesses to be reigned in and a semblance of normalcy restored. Here's hoping that it trickles down to entertainment!

Ashley's and Ada's outfit were censored in RE4 Remake, RE4 VR was censored, SFV censored Mika's ass slap, do you want me to keep going ? Yes they added one outfit woop dee doo, that doesn't fix the deluge of censorship they've done. I used to be a comic book guy. Comics are about ten years deeper into this crap than video games. I used to think, EVENTUALLY after all the lost sales, lost fans, lost cultural relevance, that they'd turn things around just out of a sense of self preservation.

Yo Ogre! Give me some obscure comic suggestions please!
Hope you had a great weekend... this one took a ton of time to put together.
Games will not fall like comics, because it has at least 1000 times a bigger market and more producers. So it cannot be monopolized like comics (DC/Marvel)
And given that gaming is the last standing media, and indies are still rising (autistic devs can make masterpieces), I genuinely cannot see gaming succumbing to this.
Case in point: AAA is constantly losing sales, fans, cultural relevance etc, but their players move on to better games ;)

Nailed it.
I want to talk more about it... but it's a serious topic that can't be put into this format.
DEI is ironically killing diversity by filling a checkbox.
Real Diversity is not having that checkbox in the first place.
You can't spell "die" without DEI.
The D unironically stands for discrimination and the E for exclusion. These people literally pick what is and what isn't put into games just by filling checkboxes, instead of naturally creating art. So what the end product becomes is something no one with a brain wants to touch, because it has no soul or passion behind it.

AAA companies feel it's far more profitable to appeal to the general public than niche fans. For example Dragon Quest is popular in Japan but not the states. Not helping matters unlike Japan, America is a bit more sensitive to fan service. So they censored it to an appeal to a wider audience.
This is why indie companies are important because they can afford to appeal to just fans.

yes well one of my crackhead theory is that they're doing it to sabotage western developers so bad their stocks go down like it did with Ubisoft and then take over the gaming industry behind the scene, tencent already owns a good chunk of shares in almost all the major gaming companies in the west so it's not hard for them to spread their influence.

The thing gamers need to understand is that these activists are not as foolish as you think because this has been a tactic of Cawmunists for a long time. Right.. it’s almost like these companies started being allergic to Money.
It is almost like these companies have financial backing, and would prefer to push their message than make more money.
I am going to guess many politicians and judges drink the kool-aid too so don't enforce, or selectively enforce, illegal discrimination lawsuits.
No companies should be cursed with having a base in California
Keep fighting!

I hate how since the 80's anime have started to normalize sexist / double standard tropes against men in a lot of shows, like making the male characters look dumb and weak in comparison to the women or have a character who says bad things about women and is treated like a villain or at least a jerk worth of some punishment but when the female character is highly sexist / misandrist nothing bad happens to her in most cases like if she wasn't a chauvinist jerk herself, not all anime have this problem but a lot of potential great shows were ruined to me because of this unnecessary sexism towards their main audience.
What does the Scouter say about their DEI level?
It’s… 1006.
I heard major Japanese investors have been moving away from ESG. I hope it's true.
I lost a small hope in Japan on my trip to Japan a week ago. Osaka had rainbow flags which will slowly make its way to games :(
Pretty sure the rainbow flag (and what it represents) itself isn't the issue...its corporations forcing it into products as a business tactic.
Apparently Japan has been accepting muslim immigrants too. I wonder what will happen when the rainbows meet them, truly a question for the ages. Coincidentally crime has been rising lately. What a conundrum, surely there's some answer to it...
Say goodbye to the good old based Japan :(
I was not aware of some of this stuff, especially the DEI hirings of people that can't even speak Japanese or have no minimum qualifications... This trend of ESG/Bridge/DEI workplaces has no future. It's not profitable let alone sustainable.
As a gamer I am tired of their shit and I just don't buy them.
I either wait to watch gameplay or don't buy it at all and go back to play my old awesome games
...
Japan is not ruining their games, California is. It's by financial force and coercion.
Pretty much. Less of a ideological/political agenda and more of a business agenda that...really doesn't care about what audiences (arguably even ones who are supposedly being pandered to) think.
5:40 another example even worse is when Capcom put up a content warning for Megaman battle network collection an E rated game.
This is why everything seems so sterile bland looking the same and safe, especially nowadays within games media. Censorship is the death of creativity and actual progress, which is the main reason have always despised it so much. Age ratings on media while having some issues were also put in place for a reason :-)
New Scouter vid dropped, so you know i gotta hit like before watching
Even games made in entirely different countries for entirely different audiences are once again being censored, and while in the past censorship was done to appease "Christian values" nowadays it's being done to appease "modern audiences."
Keep up the good work in calling this sort of thing out in any case. Hopefully things will shift again, but the only way that will happen is if people aren't so apathetic to this stuff.
I'll keep calling this crap out. It's sad to see every franchise turn out like this.
> past censorship was done to appease "Christian values"
And it was also extremely small, and mostly done out of respect as well. Not to push an agenda.
Sweet Baby Inc kiss of death
kiss of bankruptcy, the succubi of corporations
Shit-das touch.
At least Japan was nice enough to include a massage parlor in FF7 Remake
How do we even stop this? It seems not buying isn’t working considering how they keep doing more and more
I stopped supporting it and have been trying to voice my opinion as much as possible.
This needs to go mega viral
Watch time is huge right now on youtube... hopefully it works out.
9:47 Can anyone tell me which episode it is? I want a reminiscence of the past
you dirty dog.
Look up Maron and Krillin episode!
I'm honestly thinking of retiring from being an anime and manga fan and a gamer because of Japan faltering.
No need. There's TONS of amazing media from the past. I doubt we could play all the good games, read all the good manga and watch all the good anime in our entire lifetimes
Yes, i've given up on Japan they've completely given in to ESG hook line and stinker.
I can't believe even Tekken 8 fell into this crap. The characters was good looking so I didn't realize
Japan is late to everything and is currently going down the feminism route.
And it's only getting worse.
I still do not know why this companies care about this BS. They avoid risk, by not making new, intresting games or do not give enough time to passioante dev team to finish their stuff, but can spend a lot of money for something, which is going to fail for sure, without doubt or at least sell worse, than it should.
Vee is the real deal, got some sick game music deep cuts in these videos. I heard Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru at the beginning and did a double-take. There's a slower arrangement in Link's Awakening too but I think this is the original. Confirmed Gamer.

If you described the content in the original dragon ball and then asked people whether or not they would approve of allowing everything in it, they wouldn't. Content standards are standardized. Don't blame individual cogs for how the machine was designed. Even with best intentions, there are flaws.
What’s the point of the rating system if you’re just gonna censor rated M games anyway?
Thanks EI/ESG for making my vast retro collection worth more money and saving me from buying new games.

Another Amazing video, you are the best .

Will South Korea be the last to fall???
Korea is already starting sadly... as far as last? Idk, I think Indies are going to take over and I'm cool with it.
They make the best movies.
Konami= I'll try MGS3 remake but if I sense any censoring I'm also done with them
Bandai Namco = No.
Tbf there's not really a lot of room to artificially inject wokeness into a fromsoft game anyways
Have you seen Kojima's X page? The punk is pretty woke .
Now he's co operating with DEI and SBI agendas.
Remakes/Remasters are sanitizing everything. Better graphics and controls are used as excuses to push propaganda.
Japan isn't ruining games, they're saving it from activists.

At the end of the day, money talks. I'm not gionna shame poeple who still support these companies but the DEI departments will have to continually justify their existance and will thus continue their censorious ways. Just remember that.
