After you watch the video, please take time to read the short essay in the description box, it captures in a nutshell the glory of Nairobi was in the 70's to mid 80's before a precipitous decline in the 90's which it is yet to recover from.

For those who were born and lived in Buruburu know how beautiful this estate was, to me it’s still beautiful. We have to be thankful for the estate groups/home associations that have really protected Buruburu from proliferations of unplanned structures. The old and new inhabitants appreciate a planned estate, and every time I come home I love it. It’s not perfect due to age but it looks lovely. Jericho and other estates nearby are still intact, the curse of umoja and pipeline estates hasn’t befallen them. You are right about the nganyas, Buru was the thing, man the 23s came in first-anyone remember “pure pains”series, the music system was setup vizuri. When I am home I take the quiet Mathee’s, the days of boom twaff ziliisha. Those drone shots are lovely, and you gave us 8mins of Buru. Let’s just say some of my relas and friends bado wako buru. Thank you boss afrikan.

In Buru the best thing is that its self sufficient in that if they were to shut off Phase 1-5 it will sustain itself, there being play parks, schools, library, shopping centres, banks, fast food joints kina kfc and the houses are all mostly 1 storey with so not much congestion of people, front and back gardens plus water is pretty much reliable!

Awesome video, it evokes nostalgic and fond memories. My family moved in back in 1980 (ph.4), I recall the houses were newly built, picket fences with wooden gates. Each court had a children's playground. In hindsight it was a very well planned Estate before the proliferation of extensions.
In the mid 80s, Prince Charles paid a visit, it was part of his tour of Commonwealth Dev. Corp (CDC) aided projects. The residents and kids from nearby schools all lined up by the shopping center to welcome him.
Crown Paints ran an ad campaign back then where they'd paint houses along the main road, with different paint colors.
I loved growing up in Buru.

It's high time to tear down those buildings and replace them with planned skyscrapers. This will free up a lot of land to be left as green areas and too, accommodating so many people in the Kenya ever growing population, at the same time solving housing problem. Planning is the key.
