To everybody who doesn’t know about the controversy: Alfred gifted Amaia a book called “España de mierda” (Shitty Spain). His fans say that it’s satirical and that it has nothing to do with politcs. However, its author Albert Pla has said publicly: “I have always been disgusted by being Spanish, as I hope everybody is” and “I would like Catalonia to be independent”. On top of that, a few weeks prior to that it was discovered that he posted some pictures of esteladas (flag of the pro-independence movement) on his Instagram with the hashtags: votaresnormal (it’s normal to vote), independencia (independence), wewantindependence, etc. That being said, my main issue with the song is that it’s too saccharine (personal preference), that Alfred can’t sing to save his life and that the only reason he reached the finals in OT (kind of like American Idol) was due to his relationship with Amaia.
Ugh what a snoozey song. My respect goes out to all the people that like (love?) it but I just can't stand it. Too cringey, too mushy, too "Spain goes to Disneyland."
