- Your Toronto Zoo is turning 50 this year and there are exciting changes happening here! During your visit you may have noticed significant fencing and construction at our front entrance, but please note there are no animal habitats impacted due to this construction.
We are proud to be investing in a new Community Conservation Centre at our front entrance area that will be a state-of-the-art community space, including classroom spaces in partnership with local educational institution partners, other community spaces, and a new otter habitat! Check out the video below for a sneak peek into this exciting project!
This space will be an opportunity to engage more people with our mission of connecting people, animals, and conservation science to fight extinction. Looks like a lot of cement and hardscapes - except a rooftop terrace. Would have hoped for more greenery to be more welcoming.
Is the construction disruptive to the animals? I was there few days ago and quite a few animals were not out for viewing. And no access to the Pavillion they were housed in (I.e. giraffes). I know weather is a huge factor...but I've been there in similar temperatures and there were more animals on display.
Also how is the construction going for the Gorilla's? I noticed the outdoor Pavillion was being redone and one of the volunteers mentioned that the indoor Pavillion was also scheduled for maintenance.
Great update and the new entrance looks amazing! When is the boardwalk expected to be done?

Wow, can't wait to check out the new terrace area... as well as the inside of the new pavillions - so nice to see new construction being done at our Toronto Zoo....
Looks really great! Some quick questions, in the master plan blueprint it shows that the Indian rhino and river hippo are not in the areas they usually are. So are you guys getting rid of them or are they being moved to another location in the zoo?
