Patrick. The elimination of the use of seal fur in clothing was certainly a positive move to stop the brutal killing of baby seals that were killed solely just their fur pelts. However when the EU presented this as a total ban on fur it also had a negative impact for our northern Inuit population. The Inuit hunt seals as a food source and they responsibly use the whole animal to support themselves. The fur pelts they did not use for clothing were sold to generate an income which was used to buy fuel, ammunition, snow machines, and other materials to support themselves. I really never gave this much thought myself until my daughter became a teacher on a small island for a 600 person Inuit community. As we followed her time teaching there she would often tell of students who would miss school days because they were “out on the land” helping to hunt for food for the family. Barbara Sanderson I live in Mississauga, Canada. Thank you so much to Bob Barker and the Paws Sanctuary for giving these three wonderful elephants the life they deserve.
I can't believe a developed, 'first world' country like Canada still keep animals in terrible conditions in zoos. Their lives must've been terrible for them to show such caution in their new freedom here. I sincerely hope they get over the years of misery they endured and live the rest of their long lives in happiness. Thank you to all involved in making it possible for these beautiful, graceful animals.
Saw all three of those beauties at the Toronto Zoo as a kid and I remember wishing that they would someday get away from their pathetic existence as confined and constrained examples of their magnificent species.
Me too! We also went t the african lion safari in Toronto when i was young. The camel spat at my cousin and the girrafe stole my bubblegum right out of my mouth! The moneys damaged my grandpas radio antenna, so we never went back again. Growing up in the 70's zoo's and aquariums were everywhere, even then i knew it was wrong. The only zoo my kids have ever been to is the baby lambs, bunnies and goats petting and grooming zoo's of the temporary kind which pop u around easter on local farms. The kids get to pet the animals and learn about local farm animals and their care. Who doesn't want to brush a week old baby lamb?!!
Petting farms are exploiting animals too, if you love them don't eat them. What do you think happens to these babies after you are done petting them? Vegan because I love all animals.
To watch this video and see how well cared for these elephants are in the beginning of their life to freedom at last is extraordinary. They finally have peace and purpose.
Thank-you Paws for rescuing these beautiful, deserving animals. An update would, indeed be appreciated. Also, many of us are wondering if you've had a chance to check into the possibility of rescuing an elephant with plight addressed on Facebook. The elephant's name is Mai and she too is chained, hurting and lonely. Please!!! Let us know if you can or have already helped her so, if necessary, a funding venue can be set up for her. I'm praying that the outcome for Mai will be so positive that photo, name and bio of each elephant in need will be routinely posted on RUclips so as to raise awareness of their plight among the millions of folks to whom Facebook is, for whatever reason, unappealing. Blessings, always.
Thank you for showing the video. I was so worried about the elephants and the long travelling that they did. Take care of these precious animals, I know that they have gone to a great place to retire. Thank you so much for caring.
I read an article recently that said Bob Barker is fading fast. I think he has developed Failure to Thrive and just doesn’t want to keep living without his wife who died several years ago. The first elephant seems so wary of everything. They are such precious, majestic animals. They don't deserve to be kept penned in small areas and condemned to such an unnatural life as they had before.
Thank you for posting this video. It is so nice to see them! We Toronto residents were so worried about them! Please keep the updates coming. And the elephants were never chained at the zoo. I had a season pass yearly and never were they treated badly or chained. Please don't be ignorant and know your facts before u post lies. Keep our ladies happy and healthy PAWS :)
Dana Brear so you were there 24/7 and saw what happened to them when the zoo was closed or they were not on display? You went into all the back areas? You were there at night too?
I am coming to this a good number of years down the line. I think, from this footage, it is safe to say that these Ellie's are all enjoying the new found freedoms they have now. The zoo model does not work on large foraging animals such as elephants as they world normally travel large distances on search of food/water. From that perspective where these babies are now should suit their needs better. Let's focus our attention now on getting Lucy free from Edmonton zoo where the 'general practitioner' vets associated with the zoo are still refusing to release her to sanctuary saying she is too ill - no she bring in too many tourists and dollars. 😡
They seem to be getting used to the lay of the land. Thika seems a bit reluctant but she was born in Toronto so that May have something to do with it. They were never chained in Toronto. That was just for their safety while traveling. I wish these gorgeous ladies a wonderful life in my home state and will miss them very much. :)
fantastic result for African elephants to now have sunshine and space compared to what they have been living with. Well done to Steve Gordon who picketed at the zoo and pasionately followed his dream to get them released and thanks to BobBarker for funding it all. Wonderful to see. Steve by the way was eventually banned from the zoo, his heart is in the right place as are all that helped with this move. Love to you all Karen and the Turgwe Hippos
It is so terrible what humans have done to elephants worldwide. I hope for the day all elephants will be released from captivity and moved to sanctuaries like this one. And I hope in the years to come that the elephants will always be safe and secure in these sanctuaries. Because of changes in governments, elections and so forth, recessions, in a human world it always affects the natural world and the animals.
I just thought of something. We are all so happy these elephants are now free to do what they want to do. In a way, I bet they are terrified. They have spend their whole life having someone dictate what they were supposed to do......now all of a sudden they can do what they want. They probably feel lost. They have not developed the skills necessary to cope with freedom. I hope they have or bring in an animal psychologist to help. These elephants are a lot different from the other video. In the other video the elephants were running around squealing, jumping around in the river and having a good old time.
Patshhi4 - Geez, give them time, they arrived the previous night from Toronto, over 3,000 mile journey!! Six years later, 2019, I saw them today, open house wkend at Paws, they look happy, are happy, peaceful & well loved by the staff. 💛🐘💛🐘💛🐘💛🐘🐆🐘💛💛💛
I saw them unchained many times. In fact, they only had chains on their legs in preparation of the move - the chains were to safely secure them for their long move.
They had to have each leg chained to the crate for stability whilst travelling. Up until the TZ keepers started the crate training, over a year ago, they had never had chains for anything. Broke our hearts to see them wearing them but knew it was part of the process. So glad they are off and our girls have safely arrived.
I'm wondering why they were transferred from Toronto. They don't look very healthy and I would never have thought that Toronto Zoo would abuse animals in any way. Bob Barker was an Earth Angel! We have a wonderful elephant sanctuary here in Middle Tennessee called The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee!! So happy for those magnificent animals!
I love watching the elephants as they are getting uused to their new environment. But I was wondering do you interact with the Elephants like touch them and play with them?
These magnificent beasts need a lot more than a paltry 80 acres for their habitat. Having said that, what these "cuddly pachyderms" now have is 10,000% better than being in a zoo.
I absolutely despise the idea of any animal living at a zoo. This was a very good plan. Thank you to all involved.

That's was easy to donate. Just click on left of screen. Great Job guys.
It is so terrible what humans have done to elephants worldwide. I hope for the day all elephants will be released from captivity and moved to sanctuaries like this one. And I hope in the years to come that the elephants will always be safe and secure in these sanctuaries. Because of changes in governments, elections and so forth, recessions, in a human world it always affects the natural world and the animals.
thank you so much
They seem so subdued were they badly treated?? thanks so much for rescuing them, and thanks to everybody that helps animals be free.
Nice to see them without chains. Thika unchained!! Iringa unchained!!!. Toka unchained!!!
Well done folks at PAWS
If these Elephants are happier now that they are not up here in Canada, then I am very happy too.
I saw them unchained many times. In fact, they only had chains on their legs in preparation of the move - the chains were to safely secure them for their long move.

Now you will be taken care of, you can enjoy the rest of your life in kindness
Yes Amen and Amen🤗😇😑😊☺😍😗Thank you so much xxx.
Thankyou Bob Barker! If only the Edmonton Valley Zoo would have let Lucy go. Lucy is still trapped in cold Canada 😔
I would love to see more tape on our Toronto Elephants please let us Toronto residents see more oToka, Thinka and Iringa. Thanks.
They had to have each leg chained to the crate for stability whilst travelling. Up until the TZ keepers started the crate training, over a year ago, they had never had chains for anything. Broke our hearts to see them wearing them but knew it was part of the process. So glad they are off and our girls have safely arrived.
Ditto. Update would be great. Gratifying to watch after all these years but update please.

I love Bob Barker too!!!!
Some americans, canadians included seem to think the 3 ladies had always been chained. Glad you set the record straight.
Toronto zoo should be closed down PERIOD!! Thank you Bob Barker for making this happen!!
How are all the elephants doing now? 1/1/2024 They are such exceptional and loving animals when they are free to be elephants together.
Going to the Zoo Was Not a Good Day For Me as a Child. I Never Went To Another One Again.!!! It's about Time They Take Elephants back Home.!!!
Today is year 2024,any updates on all of these beautiful elephants in california?
I'd love to see them meet the other three "girls!"
I think that's Thika...apparently she was apparently a bit hesitant to come out of the barn, but when she did she wandered around curiously :)
I love watching the elephants as they are getting uused to their new environment. But I was wondering do you interact with the Elephants like touch them and play with them?
Such intelligent animals! I’ve seen their drawings of other elephants that are as good as mine, and I’m an artist!
I LOVE BOB BARKER
These magnificent beasts need a lot more than a paltry 80 acres for their habitat. Having said that, what these "cuddly pachyderms" now have is 10,000% better than being in a zoo.
