Marc's dad is a Excellent musician his self. I'm sure when he said Pappa started hummen a funk. He meant his dad !! Absolutely LOVE Marc
I grew up with Marc in Carencro, Louisiana. That instrument is called a washboard and is commonly used in Cajun and zydeco music.
Looks like a souped up washboard to me. Marc is a great talent. I caught one of his concerts in a little spot in FL. Multi racial people together having a great time. Don't let politics and the TV divide us. Great reaction brother.
God Bless You!
@@huhwhut3772 Exactly! My mom had one while I was growing u1
Let me explain.
It was used from scrubbing clothes. When you didn't have the money for instruments you used what you had around you ie: cheese grater scraped by a mechanics file, hard cardboard box as a drum, and someone always knew someone with a guitar etc. Good times
He is sweet as can be too.....about 15 years ago my son and I went to see him at a starbucks in Seattle. Before the show started my son went to the counter to get a snack and he was about 50 cents short. A nice guy behind him gave him the change to make the difference. Once the show started, my son said that the singer was the one who gave him the change.....Marc! Not only impressed that he helped out my boy, but that he also waited in line like everyone else to purchase what he was getting.
Man, I had this whole album in heavy rotation about 15 years ago. He’s immensely talented.
Impossible to listen to this song without feeling joy, I love everything about this song, touches all of the bases.
FYI Marc was 17 when he recorded this song and either 18 or 19 when he did the video. His dad is a blues hall of famer guitarist and singer Teddy Broussard. Legend.
He's from our home state Greg, yeh , LOUISIANA. He has some really good music. Try " cry to me".
Shout out Louisiana. What city you from?
Straight out the boot...Carencro, La.
Great reaction video, Greg. Yeah, while the T.V. and P.C. loud-mouths in the world try to divide and conquer us, all who love brotherhood/sisterhood and music like this all know better. Like the Good Book says, "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord." It said nothing about age, weight, race, height, size, color, or how we style our hair. We're ALL God's children, and when we leave all that other mess behind, its nothing but love and smiles and FAMILY all-around. Show me the way to that front porch. Blessings to you Greg and keep sharing the music!
I'm from Alabama and my husband from New Orleans. His accent somewhat like Marc. It's that Delta sound. My father in law from Mississippi Delta and he sounds just like that. Real thick accent. I agree with you. Music isn't about color. It's about heart ❤ and having fun together as humans. It's kind of sad but I'm white and my best friend is black. Other folks have asked us both how that's going. I guess it's weird to them. My friend and I answer the same way. We don't see color. We see each others heart and soul. That's what matters. She's my sister from another mother. Simple as that.
Thanks for this reaction, Greg! Loved it. The washboard/rubbard - in cajun french is called a frottoir. Marc's dad was a member of the swamp pop band The Boogie Kings many years ago. I'd guess that this song sounds familiar from hearing it in a La. advert./commercial on TV or something like that perhaps?
Thanks for that info!! That's how in feeling, like I've heard it on TV in some way. Still a 🔥 song though!!
South Louisiana in the house!👍🏻👌🏻
Do one by him named “cry to me” he shows some skill and soul on that song
Washboard is the silver thing played on the porch. Poor people used to make music with little money for instruments so they used washboard, spoons, all kinds of makeshift instruments especially for percussion and rhythmn
Papa is his dad Ted Broussard who played in the Boogie Kings, a Cajun boogie/blues band. It's a family thing. Carencro, Louisiana.
Your gonna like him.
Great reaction buddy! I've never seen your videos before & never heard this song before but both were so fantastic! Good job! I love you America God Bless You!
You have to check out more from him! the man has a Crazy great voice!
you want some crazy good back and forth signing check out Dock of the bay otis redding cover. damn sexy!
You didnt see this song not nowhere, not ever.. Well, before this reaction. Thanks to whoever recommended it!! ❤️
Louisiana reppin'
Just gettin together..no matter what color...amen brother!!!
This song has always been 🔥 and Marc is super underrated. The boy clutch hope u react to more from him
It's a washboard, sonny, people washed their clothes on it and used it to make music in the swamps and the mountains. Some people played spoons right from the dinner table.
About time!!!!
One of my all time favorite artists and songs. New sub, respect anyone that hears his soul
The silver thing is an old fashioned washboard. People would use them to scrub clothes before electric washing machines. They would also use it for making music.
✌️
It is actually Papa started hummin' the 'funk' and two lines before that, the lyrics were, Guitar packed in a trunk, so the last word on each of those lines rhyme. Papa is Marc's dad Ted, who is a guitarist and one of the co-writers of the song, and they presumably came up with the idea while out on the road.:
Papa started hummin' the funk
I gotta jones in my bones before they know,
We were singing this melody
Stop the car pulled out the guitar,
Halfway to New Orleans
Could feel the sun about to rise,
When I realized we had nothing to fear
It's just me and my daddy and a kid named Cope,
Making music that nobody would hear
Hey Greg , now this sounds good 👌
It's called a washboard brother.
Thanks bro!!
@@VloggingWithGreg anytime brother
Cry to me and these arms of mine by Marc are damn good ones !!
Marc Broussard and his band do Cry To Me, Pls consider reacting to it, I like that you Actually listen to the words. Love watching your reactions
Hell yeah brother...good stuff..white 62 year old former marine from south carolina...lets all get together and sing together..wouldn't it be a better country???
It's a washboard. It's used in music down in Louisiana, mostly Zydeco. Make sure to hear, the Beauty of Who You Are. INCREDIABLE!
Omg. SOUL! Loved it from jump. Heard it last yr and knew id be hearing it a lot. What a voice! This one and another one he covered by Solomon burk called .-cry to me-do yourself a favor and ck it out. He does it soo well.. more soul. Lov it lov it. Just gotta move to it.. got to! Big fan of your chann. Dan north fl -4/14/22
Now for Allen Stone- Brown Eyed Lover and Sunny Days please. He is a Louisiana boy, I think that is a wash board and the spoons.
I second the Allen Stone recommendation! Sunny Days, Naturally and Consider Me are spectacular!
Yes it's a washboard also used in skiffle he's using spoons but in skiffle the used thimbles on all fingers and thumbs as well as rubbing up and down they also tap different fingers with the thimbles on make different sounds due to the length and density of the fingers like when you hit battles filled with different levels of water
As others have said, that's a washboard, and he's playing it with spoons. As simple of an instrument as it is, I always love hearing a song with a washboard and/or spoons being played
Ain't no one ready for the clap.
that5 hook sounds like tthe song they staqrted singing in th movie "Glory" the day before they go into battle...
That silver instrument is called a washboard. It's considered a percussion instrument in south louisiana.
It’s a washboard and he’s using silverware to make the music !! That’s old school right there !!
It's a washboard, back in the old days real Blues players didn't have a lot of money and they had to make instruments out of what they could find and the washboard they would drag a fork or some piece of metal across the ribs create a good sound
I found this song from Marc in 2004. In this video I believe he was 17 years old. I am going to see him in November in Hartford, CT. Marc is amazing. You should check out the song he did with Morgan James called "Do Right Women" an Aretha Franklin hit. She is amazing as well. HOG 4Life!
It is a washboard from long ago. I use to have to help do the laundry with one of those.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
And does anybody else agree that this guy is the illegitimate son of Eddie Murphy when he played Mr Rogers
yep its a washboard :) originally designed to do laundry
Delta blues!!
I do heat a bit of muddy waters..in this man's soul
in the old days people used a wash board to wash clothes, then at sometime people started using them to make music by putting a string on it and wearing it around their neck. this one is a modern version designed for music.
❤
This is my jam! If you like this listen to his covers of Marvin Gaye and Al Green. Legit!
I like it
It's a washboard. Makes a great, unique sound.
It's a washboard!!!!!
He is from Louisiana. He got the muddy water running thru his veins.
Imagine him and Chris Stapleton singing together😮
You see that washboard in most bands in new orleans....nowhere else
Yo greg, do the Larry 1K ft Harry Mack reaction you're gonna love it
I'm on Board
Marc's father is an old school musician.
Naw...he said ..dissappear into the BLUES brother!!
Glad you reacted to my fave Marc B song Greg :). Knowing you liked Marc, check out Josh Teskey of The Teskey Brothers, has throwback kinda Bluesy/Soul vocals as well - _"Rain - A Colors Show"_ - Link: ruclips.net/video/IhgxZ8tmBxU/видео.html
marc broussard's father is the one with cap on behind him in the video.
the dude is wearing and playing a washboard
Check out Marc doing "These Arms of Mine" by Otis Redding. Knock your socks off.
My favorite song by Marc Broussard would definitely be, "I love you more than you'll ever know. It's a Donny Hathaway song that Marc remade and it's awesome. You should really check that one out!
This performance of that song is my favorite ruclips.net/video/kM2cTGDZoE8/видео.html
Yes, that is a great version but if you want to go wayyy back in time.. I'd have to say that this is a great version as well.

I used to have a jukebox that my pops gave me but unfortunately it burnt up when my parents house caught fire
No one got hurt, right?? 🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@VloggingWithGreg everybody was fine , just lost the house and everything in it
Ok good!! 💯🙏🏽
They're on their way back to the bayou after Hurricane Katrina.
That’s a washboard. Kind of like playing the spoons. If you haven’t heard anyone play spoons you’re missing something. My family’s from south Louisiana. Play on the porch and play with what you got.
That was interesting 👍
I was checking my playlist of life time and I found something what maybe you can like (reggae music the time of those songs is between 2010 - 2019 I think)

He was only 17 when he wrote this. When he talks about his father, it’s the gut in this video, who’s a guitar legend ruclips.net/video/kM2cTGDZoE8/видео.html
it is a washboard that they used to wash clothes
Delta blues.....
Why are you so surprised?? LOL
Zydeco, Washboard or Cajun Spoons
It's a ..washboard...use to wash clothes on it..I know..cause I'm 62 years old..ha ha..
Playing spoons on a wash board
Washboard!!! Poor folks all colors used Washboard to clean clothes and then when you couldn't afford musical instruments it was used for percussion. Spoons too.
Scrub board♥️
What you're asking about is called a washboard. That is actually how people used to wash their clothes on. And someone figured out that makes a great sound for great music lol. You keep listening to this kind of music you're going to get an education...
The thing the guy is wearing is a washboard. In the old days you'd rub your wet clothes down it to get all the soap and dirty water off it. Some early bands used it as a percussion instrument. Marc is from Carencro Louisiana. And you may have heard the song before. The NFL used it one season briefly for the intro into Monday or Sunday Night Football. I can't remember which it was.
An old washboard
