What a story. These models are rather collectible. I think of John McNally of the Searchers with this Hofner guitar.
I have a German Hofner 1962 violin bass reissue. (Mersey they call it now.) It is very delicate but has a terrific woody tone.

Drilling thru the fingerboard?? Why? They didnt show either that or the headstock close-up after repair, I wonder why.

@@julianewart7643 Yes that was totally unnecessary. I’ve had two 1958 Höfners and the neck/heal joints come apart easily. For future reference most of these Höfners don’t have complex dovetail joints. Just simple mortise and tenon. Those big holes can be repaired with ebony dowel plugs but the best rule in luthiery is, unless absolutely necessary, remove as little wood as possible.

@@nickdryad mine was fixed in that way as well am going to get it restored properly such a beautiful guitar still playable mine is a blonde 1960 committee acoustic the previous owner tried to turn it into a electric looked really tacky so have taken the slide on type pickup off and am going to return it back to a standard acoustic with a hidden pickup when i played it with the pickup it had a really clean and clear sound amazing
