Matt, I’ve been watching your videos for about 6 years and they have become the highlight of my week. All of you are doing a great job of describing just what you’re selling and who it should fit. Keep up the great work!!!
That bat-wing really comes in handy during rain and cold weather. I find it amusing when it rains and I'm just passing other motorcycles who pulled over.
Excellent review thanks, I bought a new 1998 FLHTCi. And the night the dealer delivered it to my house myself and my good friend removed the tour pack before I put 1 mile on the bike! I agree with you guys That the stretched bag and rear fender custom look is phasing out. And I also think the street glide standard is the best value.
Thank you, Matt, for the great detailed presentation for us Street Glide guys. I've owned Road Glides in the past but always go back to Street Glides. I prefer the cock pit design of the batwing fairing and the overall more balanced appearance of the Sreet Glide vs the Road Glide. Keep up the great work!
Same. Except I only test rode the Road Glide. It was interesting...just really not my thing. Batwing fairing for me.... even if the bar swap costs a ton more, lol.
Out of the 3, Street Glide, Street Glide Special and Street Glide ST, as far as looks alone, I still like the standard Street Glide. I really like the color you chose to highlight in this video.
Good morning Matt from north east Victoria, Australia. Another brilliant video! Completely randomly last Friday, just after I"d parked my 21 Sportglide at Holbrook (New South Wales - and a 2nd world war Submarine parked in the main street - yes really) services when a 117 CVO Street Glide rolled in and in that amazing grey colour. Stunning in the flesh! It was well used as well. Covered in dead insects so had seen some real miles.
I am 57 5'9" 160lb and I have no issues handling an ultra fully loaded with my wife who is 5' 110lbs. Anyone with riding skills, especially if they have an offroad background, can throw around a limited with ease. The slow speed handling is effortless, again especially so if you have trials training skills.
Thank you Matt. I always look forward to your reviews. I think H-D still needs to pay more attention to suspension. Watching the freeway clip, especially around 9:00 min., I can see the rear wheel hopping. One of the first things I did on my 2019 CVO Street Glide after watching your suspension reviews was the change my rear shocks. It made the bike so much better.
If I were in the market I would definitely choose an ST. When I purchased my 2015 RGS I added a stage 4 with headers and nightsticks. I also added 1 in to the rear suspension. No complaints...
I’m from ATL and recently visited LA, I wanted to visit Laidlaw H-D, but in the interest of time I went to another HD Dealer that was closer to where I was staying. I won’t name names, but next time Laidlaws for sure!!
You are spot on about the low rider S or ST not being offered in chrome! Harley needs to make that an option, only thing keeping me from upgrading my 2019 low rider standard chrome version to a low rider S or the ST, I just don’t care for the blacked out version. Thanks for your videos, I think you guys hit all points.
Yeah I was looking at just buying a soft tail standard and just building a more custom version of low rider s because none of Harleys bikes right now are offered in configuration I love.
After owning a Street Rod as my beginners bike I have owned a 2018 Fat Bob 114 (I loved it) and now own a 2022 Street Glide Special. This was just the right evolution for me and I really love my SGS and the comfort that the bike gives me, especially at longer trips or at the german Autobahn (well, it doesn’t has enough power to fight with the 250 km/h running cars at the left lane but it also doesn’t has to line up with the trucks at the right lane, so the middle lane is its home). Forget about the standard speakers when doing 80 km/h or up but they are great when washing the bike or doing a rest at travels. The best extra I chose was the Klocks Werk wind shield, this gives an extraordinary benefit in riding comfort. HD should build in this as an OEM part and offer different hights to chose from. The only disadvantage of the bike, like on every Harley I have seen: the neutral gear is harder to find as a good steak in a vegan restaurant.
Thank you Matt for all the information appreciate you I can't decide if I want the street glide or the road glide probably street glide though I don't know why I'm stuck on the street glide I think it's because what I have been around most of my life and the street glide rides well for me anyway thank you keep up the amazing work
My local dealer has a Street Glide and a Street Glide Special in the white with chrome trim. Really gave me a chance to compare the models. For myself I would choose the standard over the Special. I like the 114 engine, the gloss inner fairing, the chopped engine guard and the sleek console with the gas cap on the side. I actually prefer the standard bags over the stretched bags. The standard they have has the upgraded infotainment screen, so that is a wash. I like the wheels on the special, but I think the standard wheels look good also. Even with everything the Special has over the standard that I do like, it just isn't worth the extra money to me. I will say this new white with the chrome trim is the best looking combination in my book. The ST model just doesn't fit into my riding style, so that isn't even on my list. Lastly, my preference is the batwing over the shark nose. I just prefer the looks of it and I like the gauge layout better. The windshield being closer to me is also a plus. Thanks for another great video Matt.
Matt, thanks for applying a percentage, 5%, to the wind blocking difference between the road glide fairing and street glide fairing rather than just saying “slightly” or “kind of” different.
Glad that resonated with you. Yea, it's one of those things that most people say you just need to experience, which I agree with, but it's less difference than most people think
Totally agree with the SG vs RG fairing comparison. I think both look great and had a tough time making a decision. Ultimately I went with the SGS. It came down to the distance in which the infotainment system screen was from me while seated on the bike. It felt like too much of a reach when sitting on the RG.
I made several trips to harley and was looking at both, tried both and ultimately went with the 21 SGS and couldn't be happier. No issues with weight, steering, or wind on the highway either. I love the bike. I really prefer the wing over the shark as well imo

I get the draw to the Road Glide, this tall guys with long arms and legs makes sense, i dont have the problem. Also the the guys with the over produced belly probably feels less crowded on the Road glide as there is extra space.

Nice review guys, thanks. Just a comment on the Street Glide Special stock factory rear shocks. The stock 12" shocks on the Street Glide Special may make the bike looked slammed, they also make your backside get slammed when the going gets rough 🤣. The shocks are too short, not enough travel. I changed mine to the Ohlins HD772 13" shocks. They are great, easy to dial in and no more bottoming out. This was the only thing that absolutely needed fixing on my 2020 SGS. Again thanks for a great review 🙂👍
Hi Matt, viewer from Eastern Canada reaching out. Love your videos & always look forward to your reviews. I will be purchasing a new HD this coming year (2023) HD’s 120 Anniversary year of course, and would love to see a review/comparison between an Ultra limited & SGS. Although I love the SGS, the Ultra comes standard with many options the SGS doesn’t. Riding style is mainly occasional, weekend trips, with a few longer summer trips with my wife accompanying me periodically. Therefore, would prefer the Ultra for comfort, however love the style of the SGS. I’m 6’1 250 lbs Would love to see you do a side x side comparison of both bikes, and what bike you choose over the other. All the best Matt, look forward to reviewing more of your content! Ride safe my friend
Starting point, that's funny $20k later my 2021 FLHTK it is almost done. Oh and thanks HD for changing the front rotor to an obscure 7-bolt pattern that Nobody has oversized rotors for.
Great video. I rent Harley’s for my once a year trips. The road glide fairing feels too big to me. I don’t like the dual headlight. I also like the layout of the gauges. Having said that, I know many people prefer the road glide which is why there’s chocolate and vanilla
another great vidya from the harley wizards! ima kinda blank canvas guy myself; gimme the standard and let me build to suit ima still trying to find out why the headlight on my road glide won't move with the handlebars lol
Another Great video Matt & Nick! Thanks for sharing! I do have a question though... Didn't really touch on this subject and I'm curious do you notice much difference in performance wise from the 114CI vs. the 107CI. I haven't ridden either one yet and was just curious. Thanks!
Hey Matt I love your videos as always. I feel like the street glide fits riders of a little smaller stature, If you are up to about 6 ft a street glide is an amazing bike. Aw someone one who is 6"3" 245 I feel like the. road glide is a little more roomy and fits me better. I'd love to know your thoughts on that.
Love your videos!!! Wish I could buy a road glide special, limited, or st from you guys. Now you got me thinking street glide. Still undecided.... your videos make me wanna buy them all. By any chance... would you be able to ship it to Hawaii? The dealership here is a fricken rip off.
Hi Matt, I’m in Florida but as a subscriber I really appreciate the content you’ve always post. I have a question don’t know if you can answer but I’ve been to 3 dealerships and there is never a FLHR in the floor. What’s going on with the Motor Company?
Hey Matt, for someone your height would you use a taller windshield? I took one of these bikes for a ride and soon as I hit 65-70mpg I thought my head was gonna come off 😅
When riding on two wheels and looking fantastic matters most. Special or Standard programs are both gorgeous. From here the canvas is your’s. Life short. Just buy the damn bike.
Great video. I love these bikes but I think the gray color options are meh. My question is...will those Gun and Gauntlet grays be popular a few years from now or will they be bad for resale? Time will tell. Any chance you'll revisit and do new videos for the 2022 FreeWheeler and the Tri-Glide?
Basically yes, it’s a stripped down street glide that serves a lower price point. No radio and you don’t have a lot of the flashy trim and equipment on it. Like solo seat, polished parts on engine, 107 engine, average wheels. Etc
@@MattLaidlaw I'm talking they do the tapered bags. Just make them all that length. Not necessarily like advan black 4.5, but could do it so it's not tapered and longer then stock.
A person here on You Tube just got a new Street Glide and he says even after installing the heat shields his right upper leg by the air cleaner is getting burnt almost to the point of burning his pants. Is this normal? He had the HD cam installed and different mufflers.
I am a senior viet nam era vet. Returning rider on a budget. Would love to get another bike. The price on these Harleys is outrageous. What would you suggest I get instead?
Electra glide standard. Below that Anything less expensive wouldn’t even be in the same category. So I’d say either get a pre owned one or save up. Or get financing.
From what I've seen & heard from others is that the New SG St's don't even have Cruise Control. Anyone else hear or see this as well? I would think if it's more $ then that is in option that shouldn't be taken away. My personal opinion is that the specials look the best out of all the SG family. Yeah sure the upgrades are not worth the increase in $ but I would pay the extra just because that's the look I like & that's what a Harley is all about. Customize it to what you want it to look like..
Buffeting is very rider specific. Both the Batwing and Sharknose were redesigned to give less buffeting, thats what the vent in the fairing is designed to do, or at least thats my understanding. Changing the windshield on either model can increase or decrease the buffeting further, and of course your height and the height of your seat can impact how you experience the buffeting too.
Never thought the special was worth the extra five grand. The power difference in the 114 was minimal at best and being blacked out was just a fad. I bought the roadglide standard and souped it up to make it mine. I do have interest in the ST tho.
The factory puts about 3 miles on them and we are required per HD’s pre delivery inspection to test ride the bike as well. Most all new bikes will probably have somewhere around 8-9 miles on them. This is the same with most vehicle manufacturers car or motorcycle.
Not the best video if you simply want a review/test drive/info about the Street Glide! Skip to the 10:00 minute min mark if you don't want to watch him talk about other things.
Imagine Porsche tried selling the GT3 911 shipped with the same suspension as the entry level 911. Harley is charging more for trinkets. They should be embarrassed a touring CVO essentially comes with the same suspension as a standard. 🤦♂️
I just don't see anything Special in a Special when I look at the money charged. For a company trying to claim they have a premium product its astouding how little quality of life features they include that long time riders of European and Japanese bikes expect. I really hope Harley does something with the tour line for the 120th anniversary because it really feels like they have been milking this cow for far too long.
It’s too bad that New York has completely ruined the character of a big twin by not only outlawing aftermarket pipes but also threatening imprisonment of up to 30 days to any shop mechanic that passes an inspection of an exhaust louder than stock. My local police department issued a bulletin that they will be enforcing the new law. Without an aftermarket eexhaust, there’s no character. Without the character, I’ll probably just make the jump to the pan am instead of the low rider st. I fell like I’ll be big twinless in the near future :(
Honestly I hate every color harley has now. Some are cool but just not my style. It's good they change things up but I wish there were more color options . Maybe even custom order the bike with parts ,accessories, and paint that you want rather than paying 40k on the bike then another 30kin parts and paint

When riding on two wheels and looking fantastic matters most. Special or Standard programs are both gorgeous. From here the canvas is your’s. Life short. Just buy the damn bike.
Great review! But I don’t think you touched on the 107 to 114 performance
Great video. I love these bikes but I think the gray color options are meh. My question is...will those Gun and Gauntlet grays be popular a few years from now or will they be bad for resale? Time will tell. Any chance you'll revisit and do new videos for the 2022 FreeWheeler and the Tri-Glide?
great video
Nice bikes either way
Matt, what is the relevance of the Electra Glide still, great heritage I get that, but is it just a more basic stripped down street glide offering?
Basically yes, it’s a stripped down street glide that serves a lower price point. No radio and you don’t have a lot of the flashy trim and equipment on it. Like solo seat, polished parts on engine, 107 engine, average wheels. Etc
Still waiting for HD to put full stretched bags on the bikes. I see so many people spending money on Advan Black's 4.5inch stretched bags.
The problem with going longer is they scrap too easily. HD keeps them the depth they are so they don’t take away from the lean angle.
@@MattLaidlaw I'm talking they do the tapered bags. Just make them all that length. Not necessarily like advan black 4.5, but could do it so it's not tapered and longer then stock.
The Motor Man, Jerry Palladino, states he can’t tell the difference when riding a RG or SG…so many takes on that.
A person here on You Tube just got a new Street Glide and he says even after installing the heat shields his right upper leg by the air cleaner is getting burnt almost to the point of burning his pants. Is this normal? He had the HD cam installed and different mufflers.
No that’s not normal. I’ve never heard of that happening to someone.
@@MattLaidlaw Thanks for the feedback.
Curious to know the info on the charcoal jacket Nick (?) is wearing? Thanks!
That is a flannel that Harley sold, it may be obsolete
@@TH3G0ODGUY, thanks.
There are all great motorcycles
From what I've seen & heard from others is that the New SG St's don't even have Cruise Control. Anyone else hear or see this as well? I would think if it's more $ then that is in option that shouldn't be taken away. My personal opinion is that the specials look the best out of all the SG family. Yeah sure the upgrades are not worth the increase in $ but I would pay the extra just because that's the look I like & that's what a Harley is all about. Customize it to what you want it to look like..
Doesn't the shark nose Faring Give you less head buffering Then the Bat wing Faring
Yea peoples priorities are different.
🛑🛑 What are you using for a riding shoe??
HD foot wear sneakers.
@@MattLaidlaw
They are made by Harley Davidson, in the Clothing Catalog?
@@genekelley7579 Yep, they are on HD's website!
ST is missing 2 things that should have been added:
Mid controls and
T-Bars.
Can anyone with a new SG speak to the buffeting mentioned in a lot of videos?
😍😍😍😍
We ride these bikes so, they really aren't "brand new." But we charge full price for them regardless!
The factory puts about 3 miles on them and we are required per HD’s pre delivery inspection to test ride the bike as well. Most all new bikes will probably have somewhere around 8-9 miles on them. This is the same with most vehicle manufacturers car or motorcycle.
Im sure it just like the 2021 SG.
So much yacking and so video walk around of the bikes.
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉le più belle 😊
Not the best video if you simply want a review/test drive/info about the Street Glide!
Skip to the 10:00 minute min mark if you don't want to watch him talk about other things.
GIVE IT TO ME!!!!
bought my FLHX what does that mean?
That means you like a FLHX. So you bought one.
I fell like I’ll be big twinless in the near future :(
Can you change the exhaust after inspection?
@@danfecke cops are pulling people over and giving $500 tickets for first offense. $1000 for second. Just isn’t worth it
Honestly I hate every color harley has now. Some are cool but just not my style. It's good they change things up but I wish there were more color options . Maybe even custom order the bike with parts ,accessories, and paint that you want rather than paying 40k on the bike then another 30kin parts and paint
