Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m so very sorry for your loss. That pain of losing your best friend is very familiar feeling for me. Your story is so eerily similar to mine. I lost my morkie, Bentley, on July 4th this year. He was also 16 years old and was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and was given weeks or months to live. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated, and like your dog, he lost so much weight and muscle mass, then completely stopped eating a week after bringing him home from his stay at the vet/hospital. I brought him to the vet the day he stopped eating, where they did a blood test and was told that his kidney levels had shot up to almost double what it was when he was diagnosed. I had to make the decision of letting him go that day and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Like you, I’ve never cried as much in the following month over anyone or anything. About 7 weeks later, I decided to adopt a new puppy and almost immediately had the puppy blues. I didn’t know what it was until I Google searched it. So many times I wanted to rehome my puppy the first month I got him. It was such a huge adjustment from living and caring for a senior dog to taking care of a new puppy. Now, I am so in love with him that I know I would’ve regretted giving him away. I wish the puppy blues were more common and more talked about. I miss my Bentley so so much and I hope that he knows that I can never replace him. I want to believe that he sent my new puppy to me so that I can have a sense of purpose again. 🖤🤍🖤

My story sounds so much like yours! I had a easy precious poodle and when we had to put her down, I knew she couldn't be replaced but I thought well, I'll get another one. I had not had a puppy in 12 years. My nerves were shot! My house was torn up, constant whining. I thought, oh no, what have I done! I was actually thinking about rehoming. I'm glad I didn't. I think the worst thing I did was kept comparing them. I had a lot to learn and things are fine now.

Praying for you during your grieving season. May the God of all comfort comfort you. He understands where you're at. Also
Psalms 119:28 may be something you'd like to pray during this time.
