I just came back from NYC. World of a difference, I live in Amsterdam and I think you should definitely visit! I think our subway system will blow your mind
Glad you had a great experience! I live in Amsterdam and absolutely love it! I have lived in Oxford before and visited London frequently back then… it’s a gorgeous city but I definitely prefer Amsterdam over it
Nice video! What a shame with the weather. But you're used to it (I guess). In London are many rainy days as well. Your Dutch pronunciation is pretty good. 😀
Nice video I am planning to go Amsterdam but I only speak English is metro signs in English I don’t know how to bike I am 74 years old woman how can I go around to see museums and want a canal tour. Was your hotel in Central location?
For the metro, I remember most of the signs and train announcements being in Dutch, but they are pretty straightforward to follow along and I'm pretty sure some signs are in English. Some trams also have staff on board who all speak English. But honestly you'll have no problem getting around, everyone in the city speaks English, even in restaurants they'll call your order in English rather than Dutch. The trams are the easiest way of getting around. My hotel was around a 10 min tram ride from the centre of Amsterdam
Amsterdam was NOT built for bicycles, but just like London, Milan and Paris, it was built for horse and carriage in 1960 >1980 The Dutch and Amsterdam people have chosen not to let all those cars kill our children and to make the city safe for pedestrians and cyclists. Best regards Frits from Amsterdam
Thanks for clarifying - I guess my comments were more meant as a compliment to the city for how well the system works, you've done a much better job at that than London for sure!
Nice video! How about ordering process in Amsterdam restaurants or cafes? I ve heard that in Amsterdam, one should order drinks once seated, and then could study menu in a plenty of time.😊
Oooooh interesting question, I didn't eat in any formal dining settings, spent most of my time in Foodhallen which had more of a market vibe. I'll have to find out on my return trip!
@@kieronleslie Here in the Netherlands its common practice that once you're seated, you will be asked: "would you like to drink something before you order?" But you're not oblidged to order a drink. You can say: "no thanks not now, maybe later". And than the waiter wil give you time to study the menu. Nice video Kieron. Do spend som more time here. there's so much more to see. And if you really have time. take trips to other cities in The Netherlands like Haarlem and Utrecht. You will find the same kind of charm, but much less tourists.
14:50 Now imagine if all those cyclists were in a car! It would about triple the amount of cars in the city and would lead to an almost continuous, citywide, gridlock mayhem 😅
Terrific video! Thanks to the author of the channel for this fascinating video! It is interesting to see how people live in other countries! It is very important to know foreign languages on such trips. I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travel
I loved watching this from NY. Now I think I will plan a quick trip to Amsterdam next year when I am in Paris with my Mom.. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed! You'll have the best time

How long did you spend in Rijksmuseum / Frank Haus / etc.?
I think I spend a good hour or two in the Rijksmuseum and Van Gough - Ann Frank's tour is about an hour I think.

The train was £192 return, and the hotel was around £150 per night including taxes
like the yawning part. that's exactly what I would do
