That’s a great idea! If I taught Tuk how to get in there we would never have any eggies for us though! He loves them and if I turn my back one will disappear 🤔😂
@@foxfireforest - Fair point! ;-) His future lawyer: He was just trying to expand his role on the farm by cleaning it for you. It was an "accident" that it broke during the trial run of this new endeavor & being the mindful pup that he is about food waste & plans to be a self-sufficient farm one day, didn't want to waste it, so he took advantage of the opportunity to do a bit of quality control testing. LOL
I all seriousness though, I have a couple ideas that ?might? work (based on my own personal experience), if you want to try this though...attach a latch, that you only open when you are ready to work on this task with him. He will learn it only works when YOU ask him to do it. Eventually, you can do away with the latch once he has mastered this & can then be trusted whilst unsupervised. Secondly, keep ceramic eggs in the coop during this task training, so that if he does go for one, he learns it gets him nowhere. Third, continue to enforce the "leave it" command, you've already been working on. Last, but, most importantly, not least, reward him with an equally acceptable "high value" treat. I recommend getting a treat bag of some sort to have on you at all times, to reinforce when he does a task you've been working on. When a task is particularly difficult & he finally nails it, give him loads of extra treats and praise. I highly recommend using hand signals in conjunction with verbal cues as previously discussed, so that regardless of which family member is doing it (different voice & inflection) there is never a misunderstanding about what you are asking him to do.
