Starting a Homestead in Oregon: Our First Year
In this video, we share our journey of transforming a quiet, overgrown 10-acre plot in Oregon into a working family homestead over the last year after leaving Alaska in search of warmer pastures. From building goat stalls and planting gardens to navigating wildfires and learning the ropes of animal care, it's been a year full of challenges, growth, and hard-earned lessons. Join us as we introduce the newest members of our homestead-our Nigerian Dwarf Goats-and reflect on the joys and trials of our first year creating a purposeful life for our family in the woods.

They don't like to be indoors no matter how cold it gets outside. They require a large amount of outdoor space. They need a job to do, something living to gard or they get bored.

Question, if you do this, will it remain it's prior confidence when fighting predators such as hawks or raccoons? Or in doing this do you remove it's fighting spirit?

I think barking a lot should be emphasized. Not a dog for in city living or anywhere you want to be a good neighbor. My Pyrenees is deaf, but still barks at everything. Or nothing. It's hard to tell. But incessantly. Being deaf, I don't even know if he hears himself or how I explain the concept of silence to him. He was mute for the first year and a half of his life, then all of the sudden, one day without warning, he found his voice, and hasn't been silent for an hour since.

You really need to add the fact that they feel it's their solemn duty to escape from any enclosure you may have, and roam in up to a several mile radius looking for trouble. Trouble in this instance meaning: Lions, bears, coyotes (go north enough, and add wolves I'd guess) so that trouble decides to go elsewhere.
