- This Cherokee was stumbling and had a really rough idle. I figured it was a vacuum leak. Before running a smoke test, I just ran my hand over different hose sections and found that when I touched the PCV the air sound changed. It looked originally like that the plastic pipe might have been cracked, but it turned out to be the rubber elbow at the PCV. This part is available from Chrysler for around $20 complete as an elbow alone is not available and supposedly this is an updated part. Seems to be a high failure part according to the parts department.
This is a very common problem. And thank you for showing how to install the updated version 🙏
Yep... Your problem is exactly mine... I still have all the original parts on. The rubber elbows are the weak points on this hose(years of heat damage). Got that problem here now(causing higher than normal idle speed code P0705) on mine on the passenger side. Gonna replace the hole hose and valve together. Yep, if you wiggle the hose on the passenger side you can hear a very loud air leak. LOL. Thanks for the vid!!
Interestingly, they do not sell just the elbow by itself. But at least the assembly is pretty reasonable at the dealer.
I got the updated one as well and it definitely is Slightly shorter
Thank you!! I was trying and failing to install the tube the same way you were. That up and over placement was perfect.
Glad the video was of some assistance.
Thanks for the video. I will be doing this soon. (Gulp) To take off the old one did you have to remove the throttle body are anything?
I couldn't make out where the tube goes on the passenger side. The video was a bit dark on that part. Mine is a 2006 4.7 Grand Cherokee so it may be different but looks a lot like the one in your video.
The tub connects near the throttle body. The throttle body was not removed, only the grommet elbow on the drivers side. The engine I worked on was a 3.6.
If don't mind me asking where did you get this part because AutoZone told me that it has to be purchased at a dealership
It was from the dealership.
My local dealership sells it for abou $40. Don’t use the cheap amazon ones the rubber is very weak and collapses with vacuum.
Good vid hey can you tell me where the ECM gets grounded to? Is it back of passenger cylinder head shared with a ground strap? I had to take it off and not 100% that's where it goes. Thanks!
There should be a eyelit strap tied into the rear area of the block on the passenger side.
@@mrfixit4211 yeah that's what I thought. Thanks again.
Did it fix your rough idle? Or was there another cause for that?
Yes, this was the cause.
What's the name of the metal part that connects behind the throttle body ontop of the air intake manifold?
The intake and most parts on this intake are plastic. I do not recall the metal part that you are refering to, sorry.
@@mrfixit4211 egr tube took me a few day thanks for replying though definitely helped with the videos
@@jordonelse8782 Glad it was of help.
Where is the Idle Air Control Valve on your jeep?
This was not my Jeep, just working on it. I did not need to work on th IAC, so do not remember the location, Sorry.
i dont think there is one, the throttle body assembly has it built in
it’s to the right of the throttle body
Is that the Hemi engine? 5.7?
No, it is the V6.
Where did you get the piece from
The dealer.
The dealer.
Do you know the part number
Sorry, I don't remember. If you ask at the dealer, they should give you the updated part.
What code did you have?
Sorry, It has been a while and I can't remember exactly. But it was related to a large leak, I believe.
P0507 probably
@@allensinho4 it was the p0507
I think that the engineer that decided to put the connections behind the intake manifold on my 2997 Jeep commander needs to be demoted to janitor at a gas station in the bad part of town. I have bruises on my arm where I had to squeeze it in a place where it was never intended to go. I think I am going to plug off the nipple on the manifold and get some kind of breather to go on the pcv.
It is not a good design, but at least not expensive from the dealer. Hope your fix works.
You have a Jeep from 2997!?! WOW!!! Do you also have a DeLorean? 😂
Found part on amazon
