  • soldering tutorial, soldering techniques, how to solder.
Hey guys in this video i am soldering a 256 pin smd chip,
and going through a step by step process. If you want me do
more videos on soldering let me know in the comments.
The tools that i am using are not good at all ,so to tell you guys
that you can do this with any equipment.
Don't get me wrong here, high end equipments are best and works great, i am just saying if you don't have one you don't need one.
    thanks.

Great vid in showing how simple this process can be and that if one can swing a soldering iron, then they shouldn't be scared to try this themselves. Well done to you, cooltronics!
A few extra tips, if I may, especially for those not experienced in this technique:
    1. When removing residual solder from the PCB pads, try to run the braid in the same direction as the pads. It will take longer but it will greatly reduce the risk of ripping the pad from the PCB, especially if you apply too much pressure or the PCB is of poor quality.
    2. Make regular cuts in the end of the braid to remove the 'soldered' part of the braid. If you keep too much solder on the end of the braid, there is an increased risk that the 'soldered' end, that has not quite solidified, may 'grab' onto a nearby pad, ripping it off the PCB.
    3. Always remember that flux if your friend! Yes, it may be nasty and corrosive but once the job is done, it can be easily removed with propanol.

I love electronics, and always wondered how surface mount components could be replaced. I always thought that a person would have to take a piece to repair shop. Great video, thanks for the information.

I've looked as closely as I possibly can and I see no solder bridges anywhere. In fact I'm amazed it worked so well on such an IC. Well done, Ignore the idiots with their claims of bridges, it's almost as good as the original. I'm impressed and after working on the F15 Fighter black boxes and soldering for over 60 years I'm not that easy to be impressed over any soldering job.

Hey, did you replace your micro usb port with soldering iron and normal solder? I don't have a hot air gun and solder paste so I'm tempted to do it with my soldering iron and use normal solder and flux. How did it go for you?

I can do it manually and by hot air machine. I have been doing this kind of work for 9 years. I worked in the gaming industry doing this type of work. Great demo five stars

Nice work. It's all in the technique. The flux does help prevent bridges and allows the solder to flow nice. Practice practice practice. I inspect with a high powered magnifier. Touch up if necessary. I would go in and out from the chip at the areas needing touch up to correct any bridges without disturbing the other pins, instead of going along the pins, but obviously this guy has had a lot,of experience soldering s.m.d.

Thanks for doing this video. Your soldering seems clean and nice. There are lot of videos showing the drag soldering method. Everybody highlights the importance of using enough flux. Flux is very important here.
But nobody, including you, show or disclose the flux cleaning method or any chemical used for it. If you know a better method of cleaning flux or any techniques of cleaning flux please make a video and share that too.

As an ex camcorder service tech, this is exactly how it was done day to day in the real world, no solder paste or masks
only difference for me was I fluxed the PCB first with a sticky flux to hold part. Also works a lot better with leaded solder!
Any solder bridges between pins just flux and move iron over it and it would go. Quick clean, there are proprietary flux cleaners with brushes attached to can but in the workshop it was Isopropyl and a tooth brush
