Hey guys in this video i am soldering a 256 pin smd chip,
and going through a step by step process. If you want me do
more videos on soldering let me know in the comments.
The tools that i am using are not good at all ,so to tell you guys
that you can do this with any equipment.
Don't get me wrong here, high end equipments are best and works great, i am just saying if you don't have one you don't need one.
thanks.
Great vid in showing how simple this process can be and that if one can swing a soldering iron, then they shouldn't be scared to try this themselves. Well done to you, cooltronics!
A few extra tips, if I may, especially for those not experienced in this technique:
1. When removing residual solder from the PCB pads, try to run the braid in the same direction as the pads. It will take longer but it will greatly reduce the risk of ripping the pad from the PCB, especially if you apply too much pressure or the PCB is of poor quality.
2. Make regular cuts in the end of the braid to remove the 'soldered' part of the braid. If you keep too much solder on the end of the braid, there is an increased risk that the 'soldered' end, that has not quite solidified, may 'grab' onto a nearby pad, ripping it off the PCB.
3. Always remember that flux if your friend! Yes, it may be nasty and corrosive but once the job is done, it can be easily removed with propanol.
I love electronics, and always wondered how surface mount components could be replaced. I always thought that a person would have to take a piece to repair shop. Great video, thanks for the information.
Little practice and can be done easily.
I've looked as closely as I possibly can and I see no solder bridges anywhere. In fact I'm amazed it worked so well on such an IC. Well done, Ignore the idiots with their claims of bridges, it's almost as good as the original. I'm impressed and after working on the F15 Fighter black boxes and soldering for over 60 years I'm not that easy to be impressed over any soldering job.
Thank you, I'm working on my next video on soldering. I will try on that video to solder on a working board, and repair it. just as a proof. thank you for the comment, it was needed.
Excellent video -- made the much simpler job of soldering my micro-usb port back into place easy.
Hey, did you replace your micro usb port with soldering iron and normal solder? I don't have a hot air gun and solder paste so I'm tempted to do it with my soldering iron and use normal solder and flux. How did it go for you?
@@Joao-cl1xk yup, normal solder and flux.
Good Video! Your live demonstration is encouraging to those starting out. Indeed " PRACTICE " and " PATIENCE " are Key to success.!
it actually looks a lot better than i thought, congrats on your work!
You have a good hand. :) I was doing this on motherboards chips (north bridges) 24 years ago , ( bad motherboards from Malaysia in those years) without flux .If you soldering in circles on terminals only without flux you really know how to work like a professional.
Dude! That’s amazing!! Thanks for the tutorial!
Just great, man. Keep it up. No matter what other adverse comments some might have given, you have shown to have done a great job. To be frank, I can't do it so fast.
Excellent video showing how to do TSOP manually. I am use to using Pace hot air machine to reinstall devices after indexing to board such as these and others. I can do it manually and by hot air machine. I have been doing this kind of work for 9 years. I worked in the gaming industry doing this type of work. Great demo five stars
Thank you very much. have a nice day.
how is it Mr Seger, send me some link video pleasy.
One of the best tutorials in RUclips to learn solder 256 pin SMD! Please keep up your good work! I am going to try this out to swap my BIOS SMD to new PCB, wish me luck 🤞
cheers
Nice work. It's all in the technique. The flux does help prevent bridges and allows the solder to flow nice. Practice practice practice. I inspect with a high powered magnifier. Touch up if necessary. I would go in and out from the chip at the areas needing touch up to correct any bridges without disturbing the other pins, instead of going along the pins, but obviously this guy has had a lot,of experience soldering s.m.d.
Impressive, I can see you have a lot of experience, an innate deep familiarity of the process and materials.
Simple.. But Powerful video👌. Thank you so much..
I genuinely enjoyed your video. Thanks for the good content.
Good work. I liked the video learned from it and will share. From the Dominican Republic Guillermo.
Great video. Im looking forward to practicing on a broken board. Thank you
Very good
That was amazing---I learn something every day!!!
thank you. i appreciate it .
Top video tutorial. Thank you lots!
Good video, My day job is rework and PCB inspector , Good soldering skills 👍
your video about smd soldering is very nice. your way is very simple and easy. Thank you
Hello Altaf, if you do some prototype or small batch pcba work, we can supply startup device with necessary pick and place machine
(like Neoden3v, Neoden4), Printer, reflow oven etc. Many of our users in USA and Europe are universities, personal DIY or electronics engineering.
If further interest, more specification could be sent.

Hey thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
Awesome video bro! Thank you and GOD bless.
Very nice and clean way of doing surface mount!
I did'nt know this was even possible! wow just wow! I thought it was done by automation.
congratulations !! you are very good ! Eu trabalho com manutenção de sistemas eletrônicos e sei o quanto é dificil isso que você fez.
Great demonstration, thanks
Very good job.Thank you for sharing
LOL... You make it look so easy!
Thanks this is awesome.
Gives me hope I may be able to repair some old 3Dfx video cards I have.
Excellent works very helpful to me thanks
nice job and helpful video now I will try this on our tv to fix hdmi port
Well done! However, I wouldn't use the X-acto knife to check for loose pins as it might bend them or even break them, no matter how little the force is.
What would you use? You should always share stuff like that.
@@DownsouthMan I don't use a tool at all. Only visual inspection. A microscope will help, but you don't actually need one.
Great class!
Thanks for doing this video. Your soldering seems clean and nice. There are lot of videos showing the drag soldering method. Everybody highlights the importance of using enough flux. Flux is very important here.
But nobody, including you, show or disclose the flux cleaning method or any chemical used for it. If you know a better method of cleaning flux or any techniques of cleaning flux please make a video and share that too.
As an ex camcorder service tech, this is exactly how it was done day to day in the real world, no solder paste or masks
only difference for me was I fluxed the PCB first with a sticky flux to hold part. Also works a lot better with leaded solder!
Any solder bridges between pins just flux and move iron over it and it would go. Quick clean, there are proprietary flux cleaners with brushes attached to can but in the workshop it was Isopropyl and a tooth brush
This weekend I am tackling my gauge cluster, so 99.9% Alcohol would be alright as cleaner
?
We just used isopropyl alcohol which was 99.9% and never-ever had problems, it was the universal cleaner for most things, the only place it wasn't used was in the ultra sonic cleaning tanks.
Isopropyl or acetone. And a good inspection with a good ,magnifier.
Yes, the higher the better. Good luck.

wow very professional good job
GREAT JOB!!
Perfect thanks for the video.
Nice tips & tricks, thank You
Nice video.Thank you
Darn good way of doing it ... will tryit out most definitely
Thank you, Glad you like it.
Done with precision good work fine
Very good and easy thank you 👍
tnx a lot 4 this video..
Great soldering skill !
Nice demonstration
Thanks for good idea
Awesome
Nice work
Great work 👍🏻
Good job .
amazing well done
Superb video sir
impressive, but I would like to see the board operational again, that would be the ultimate test!
I have no doubt, this guy is pro
Cảm ơn đã chia sẻ, nó rất hữu ích cho tôi.
Before removing the chip you should make some alignment markings. This way you are getting the chip back on exactly as it was mounted before removal. Just a thought.
Thank you so much.
Very nyc worked i also solder but in last two pin connected as bridge and cant remove extra solder from that
Nice work
Very nyc worked i also solder but in last two pin connected as bridge and cant remove extra solder from that
Please teach me uses of flux and best solder iron condition .......will be thank full to you
Good tutorial
Wow!
As a novice I wouldn't trust this technique, I believe there are better alternatives; I respect your wealth of knowledge though,so I remain your fan
Good finishing
Nice !
Nice work sir
Thank you!
nice job
Very good.....
Nice video! After the chip removal, the board should have been cleaned. Clean the tip of the iron more often.
Very good
like your soldering
Dear friend, your explanation is very valuable. I wanna know the type and watts of your soldering iron.
nice video...
Impressive
Nice videooo
Practice make perfect.
How about soldering new chip, how to easy to do?
And what solder power you used?
you are the bosse men
Super. U did done.
good technic sir thank you.
you're welcome.
good viedeo
great job with low cost, what kind your used soldering type?
Hi there, I would like to know which is the best soldering wire - flux and cleaner for these kinds of chip removals and replacements to give the best quality work, I would truly appreciate your advice-thank you!!!
Cool
what type soldering , size of the tip of the soldering iron u sue here .excellent hand work .
its pretty great but you may need to protect the component over the ic with kapton tape at least...
Beautiful tks
Please repair my motherboard it was a nice video you have some awesome skills
I swing flux on the soldering wick ,didn't no about that one ,thanks
you're annoyingly good at that!
💐👏👏
Beautiful job , i just soldered my LG plasma tv for black vertical lines i did this before worked great, just had to soldier other side for vertical black lines it worked but this time i have fine red & blue lines is it possible i put a hair to much solder & if so can i just try to thin the solder or did i damage or short chip it looks great it's not sloppy just a hair to much solder do I have a chance to get hair line vertical color lines out or could i make it worse & live w it !
Wow Sir Nice Job👍 . It need some practice . When iam replacing this type of chip some times upper layer some pins short & it's too defecult to clean . But your work is too fast
Someone needs to make a "Most satisfying Soldering" compilation of dragging the iron over huge chips with no bridges forming...
I really need to find a fine tip soldering iron like this where would you suggest trying to stay away from online orders because of time issues
I got mesmerize.
awesome
