- It's now the time of year when many people will watch horror movies. But is that ok for Christians? I explore this controversial topic as I discuss, "Can Christians Watch Horror Movies?"
Great balanced take. People should always be aware of the amount of darkness they consume. I've found that as I've grown in Christ certain things offer less fruit in my life. Dont be ignorant of darkness but invite in the light.
Thank you so much! And yes, I agree. Certain things I used to enjoy just don't do it for me anymore
Wow! Love the question! So dope you made this my G! I think you came to a very good, intelligent, answers to the question(s). Appreciate you my brother 🫡🫡🫡 Love the Last Dragon Sho-Nuff edit too!🫠
Thanks for the comment brother! I truly appreciate you taking the time and I appreciate the kind words! I got the response from a man much wiser than me lol. And I'm so glad you got the Last Dragon reference! Haha
There is a lot more to worry about in the world than movies....
Right!
Can you see some christian subtext in the slasher movies? Because the characters that have casual sex, drink alcohol, smoke drugs, they are killed by the masked killer, but the survivor, most known by "Final Girl", is always a virginal and pure girl, how for example: Nancy Thompson and Laurie Strode.
Absolutely!!! In fact, I plan to make a whole video about it at some point. Great observation!
Hi Kevin! Great topic. My daughter complains to me about us not watching enough horror movies since I turned to Christ. It used to be one of my favorite genres. Now that I am a little more mature in the Lord I have gone back to watch horror but like you I will not rewatch “the exorcist, or terrifier(I only manage to watch 30 minutes). Movies with human torture are no go for me except for “high tension( French film)”that I found really good because it surprised me. I’ll mention some of my favorites to see if they align with yours. Nightmare on Elm st, Halloween, the Conjuring 1, it follows, 1BR, Lost Boys,Doctor Sleep,28 days later, It 1, a quiet place.
God bless bro!
Hey bro! Thanks for the comment! Yeah man I'm right there with you! I think you're on point. And yeah that's a great list! I love The Lost Boys, Doctor Sleep, Halloween, Silence of the Lambs, A Nightmare on Elm Street. I haven't seen It Follows but I've heard good things!
Silence of the Lambs is in my top ten but I include that in my thriller list, not horror. Same with Seven, Bone Collector, and Don’t Breath 1.
Lord willing once I watch The Creator I’ll be right back here to give you my rating. Until then, God bless!
@@carloshernandez-bm7hp God bless you too bro!
I am a Christian, and I have no problem whatsoever with watching horror movies....In fact I love them!
Right on! Do you use these considerations and have lines you won't Cross? Or are you open to everything?
@CinemaSermons yup your considerations and explanations are perfect 🤗
Are there lines I won't cross?
I think so, but it's not because I think it's a sin, because I don't believe watching any movie is "sinful", it's more of a case of filling my mind with wholesome things. I find true demonic possession films like the Exorcist a bit too scary and "real" so even though I've seem it heaps of times, I am pretty reluctant to see again. The human centipede is too sadistic so even though it's just a film, I find torture scenes too repellant now
@@greekgod41 yeah I feel you on that one
As someone who is a Christian and has asked Jesus for discernment in so many areas of my life and as someone who has experience in the theme park business at SeaWorld as an engineering and a theme park management student (I’ve worked in house operations for Howl O Scream a few times),
from my entertainment knowledge, horror films are supposed to be about confronting evil but here’s the issue: especially back in the last few years, the horror films I cannot handle watching is when witchcraft and demon possession gets glorified on screen and not stoped and the Bible verse of abstaining away from every appearance of real evil and not everything being beneficial when it’s permissible is what guides me a lot with this.
And the Denzel Washington quote of leave 30 minutes or earlier before the Devil gets here, helps me a lot with this, the problem is that not that I do not like getting terrified for a cheap thrill as someone who is a theme park and roller coaster fanatic, but when the Devil gets celebrated, that’s an absolute no no for me.
Just be a good person and let Jesus work in those who don't know him
Sho nuff!
Hey, was looking to see if there was any interest in these types of reviews/discussions. Glad to see someone is on it! 🤘

Right on! I'm glad I could help!!
Subscription added. I love the Lord and I am an avid horror fan. I’ve been shamed a lot for liking them. It’s been hurtful to me because I’m very active with my faith & they don’t bother me. They are just movies and just a personal preference. But boy do my fellow believers judge me. It’s a common thought among my Christian friends that I’m inviting demons into my life, but I actively love Jesus and don’t have demons sooooo I simply disagree with them.
As a new Christian, I'll say The Exorcist is still brilliant film & the director simply put the moral of the story...God always wins 👍
@@darylsandlin5871 yeah Billy Hallowell talks about that in his book, Playing With Fire! Chapter 1, actually lol. But I definitely see that point. It's a fantastic movie with high quality film makers behind it. Cinematic masterpiece. But i hate the way it makes me feel! Hahahaha
I believe they can but i don't think they should. It's not good to feed our spirit with such evil things. It's like welcoming in bad spirits to attach themselves to you. Mark 4:24 comes to mind when talking about this. There's a lot more to just watching it then people realize. People gloss over the spiritual side of it.
Thanks for the comment, bro! And I get where you're coming from!
I agree and have movie boundaries too. I take the same position with action movies.
Agreed! Thanks for the comment!
As a fan of Terrifier and the Evil Dead series... am I a bad Christian?
Not at all, I'm a Christian and I absolutely love the Evil Dead series
Im a Christian and i love hororr movies im also autistic and my pastor loves horror too and so many "religious " pharsies of today always make us feel like everything is wrong i have tons of horror movies including the exorcist but that just me and im only 30 years old by the way i also i have a video on RUclips talking about hororr movies
@@michaelpaul9208 right on! What's your channel? I'd love to check it out. And yeah, I thought my favorite Bible teacher had a really good viewpoint on stuff like that. Let us not put law where there is no law
@CinemaSermons how old are you bud and I'll send you the link are you on Facebook ?
This should be for everyone.
God cares about non-Christians just as much as Christians and is just as much interested in their welfare.
For God so loved the WORLD.
Not For God so loved the Christian Church.
In answer to your question....that entirely depends on the individual.
Some can watch horror movies with a clear conscience appreciating them for what they are.
Yet others get freaked out or sickened or get too into them for the wrong reasons.
I agree! That's what I hope to do on the channel is invite those who don't know Christ to come get introduced to him through the movies we love!
