Intermittent wipers were optional , all it is, is an electronic regulator box between wiper switch and wiper motor harness under dash . They gave a lot of trouble , they can easily be bypassed by disconnecting and directly plugging wiper harness into wiper switch.

    Hello Sir, I have a 1990 ford f250, with a 5.8 L engine.
When I turn my wiper control knob on, my motor doesn't work and I get a lot of static sound and my battery gauge needle starts bouncing around.
Do you think it may be some sort of short in the switch mechanism,
    or the actual wiper motor?
    Thanks,
    Grandpa

Sound like the motor itself is bad or failed to a point it tries to move but cant

Can you explain.more about why you didnt think it was the relay? My wipers dont work on my 1990 f150. I hear the wiper motor trying but nothing happens.

If you hear the motor running and bo wiper action is happening
I would be inclined to believe that the linkage has fallen off in the wiper cowl area
      Double check to verify

@@TheFSeriesthanks for getting back to me. That was the first thing i checked. A friend told me to check the linkage. It looks good to me. Now im on to.step 2...whatever that is

Step 2 is figuring out why the linkage isnt moving.
Take another look, turn your wipers on and make sure the linkage is actually attached.
The linkage has a bolt that secures it to the end of the motor "Crank"
      Insanely simple setup.

yesssssssssssss thank you to the moon.. I have an 87 f150 with the inline 6.. Dad was sick so I became his full time care giver... I cut out all the rusted corners and replaced and bondo her up.. slapped some rock guard on .. had clutch changed... found a topper and put on... just made it presentable for him..... sadly Dad never drove her but admired from window.. he passed a while back.. now she is my baby... I was searching for a fix on this... ( not a mechanic.. farmers daughter so not afraid to give her a try) thanks Wesley.. what part number is it.. or what shall I search? thanks

Just google your trucks info with “Headlight Switch”
      They’re about $25 to replace
