What’s really sad about this situation is that neither one of them is wrong. They just can’t be together because of the circumstances. Wille wouldn’t care at all about being public with Simon if he wasn’t basically forced by his family and the monarchy to deny it. But Simon is out and doesn’t want to have a secret relationship. It’s absolutely heartbreaking for both of them. They want the same thing! To be together. But their circumstances make it impossible right now. The thing is nothing has really been on Wille’s terms. It’s been on his family’s terms. The monarchy’s terms. He doesn’t have agency or the freedom to decide for himself and it is so devastating. For both of them. 😭

Yes! And that's what I love so much about this, no unnecessary (how do you spell this word?) drama. But I think the reason Wilhelm denies it's him in the video is just as much because of all the opinions people would have, his mom just reminds him of that.

    • @iyawakarehen

@@jossposs3400 another thing that people don't realize about wilhelm denying he's the one in video is that, as hurtful it is, it's leaving simon off the hook because this declaration makes him go from "crown prince's gay lover who gets paparazzi'd and written about in tabloids" to "random unfortunate kid who's been filmed unknowingly and had his sex tape leaked on the internet"

Wilhelm has been passive his whole life. The Crown makes decisions about his life all the time, UNTIL he falls in love with Simon, who demands him to take action. The way Simon refused to say "I love you" back in the end is like he's saying "you know I love you, but you won't get to hear it from my lips until you get the courage to fight for us". And I think this is BEAUTIFUL, because it shows us that he believes in Wilhelm, he believes Wilhelm does have the strength to fight for them and doesn't need Simon's pity. If Simon had said "I love you too", he would be settling for the whole situation, he would be saying "oh well, that's life, what else could we do?" and he chose the harder path.

The funny thing is that a few weeks after the show came out, the current Swedish crown princess said in an interview that it would be okay for the crown prince or princess of Sweden to be openly gay. It wasn't directly linked to the show, but I guess the relation is pretty clear. There are rumours that some of the Swedish royal family did watch the show, and why wouldn't they? Even though it's a fictional scenario, this is about them in a way, after all. There are some people who were surprised with Sara's actions in Ep6, but there were signs very early on in the show that she wasn't as 'nice' as a lot of people thought she was. She called the kids at her former school losers and scolded her mother and Simon's table manners in Ep1, for instance, giving the impression that she was ashamed of her upbringing and taking it out on them. Also, when she was in Felice's room, she picked up one of August's pictures and looked at it. She was interested in him back then, even if it wasn't spelt out completely. And it's interesting how she claims that Simon let's everyone pee on him, but she then expects him to do what she wants, namely not having contact with his father. Looking forward to S2! Now the wait begins.

i feel like in the scene where wilhelm went to see simon before his press conference, you can see that even though wille says that he won't deny that it was him in the video, simon kind of knows that there's no way that he won't. you can almost tell that he knows that that's the last time they'll be able to be together and like hold each other before shit hits the fan and it's so heartbreaking.

What I love and think is an outstanding insight is when Simone inadvertently meets the Queen! WOW! What a scene by both the Queen and Simone, neither expecting to meet the other! I believe Simone finally realizes he is in love with a Prince! The Queen meets the boy that is causing such a commotion. It’s a revealing scene. Simone not knowing what to do tries to courtesy, not knowing if he should since she is the mother of his boyfriend and not a Queen! His mind must be going in circles! Her mind must be analyzing his status and how to shape him if things become really serious! It’s a very well done simple scene. Bravo.

i think 'let's start a revolution' playing in the end was so fitting, because you can just see that wille is reevaluating the situation and understanding that he is the only one who is trying to please others while everyone do what benefits them (after his call with his mother and the talk with august), so he has to finally start choosing himself and his own happiness instead of everyone's. we see how throughout the series he has been critical and uncomfortable with the privileges and how the society in his country works, even from the very start he sympathizes with simon's words in the class. and as the series progress he understands more and more that change needs to be done, hence "let's start a revolution'

GREAT reaction! It is so nice that you get both Simon and Willie. None of them were in the wrong, the timing for them was just not right... It was such a heartbreaking ending. I'm SO proud of Wilhelm that he gave Simon a hug in front of their classmates! "I hope you have a nice christmas" - It's Wilhelm's first christimas without his brother, August and his mother has betrayed him and he is heartbroken from the breakup. It is also sad for Simon, however he has a great support system! Wilhelm is all alone...
That look in the camera with "revolution" gives me hope for season 2!

Now that I think about it, I can't think of another gay romance show that went on for more than 1 season. We had Skam, but Even+Isak relationship develops in one season and that's it.
Can you imagine what legendary love story could be developed if this show had like 4 seasons? Season 2 being about Wilhelm coming out to the world and being with Simon openly, Season 3 being about their relationship developing in front of the media and what problems this aspect could bring, Season 4 about Wilhelm becoming the first gay King of the modern age and the impacts it would have in the world.
I know it will probably not be that big, because the show is very niche, but Young Royals has potential to become an icon amongst gay romances, an example of how a romance show should be made, a reference when talking about love stories!

I don't know If you are interested in reacting to an Asian LGBT series, but I just wanted to recommend reacting to these three very popular Thai BL (BL meaning Boys Love). I give all of these 10/10 !!!
    1) "I told sunset about you" and the sequel "I promised you the moon"
This is very movie-like and gives of Call me by your name vibes! It was very popular when it came out and won many awards!
It's about finding who you are and what you want. Both seasons have 5 episodes.
    2) "Bad Buddy"
This show came surprisingly and breaks almost every stereotype I have seen in Asian screen LGBTQ portrayal.
This series shows healthy communication and mutual understanding of each other.
The family of the main characters are rivals and hate each other. So they grew up next door having to hate each other. Until they didn't. (Kinda Romeo and Juliet without the tragic ending)
    3) "Not Me"
This show is still ongoing, but has only 3 episodes left. It's an action filled BL nobody shouldn't miss out on!
This show doesn't centre around romance, instead it focuses on important and very real social issues. But of course the romance is not lacking at all.
The twin brothers Black and White were separated after their parents divorce and lived drastically different lives. White grew up rich and privileged in a foreign country, while his brother Black grew up full of hardships and experienced first hand the unfair treatment of the law. When White returns to Thailand after 10 years and finds his brother severely beaten up in a coma, he takes his place in his gang to figure out who hurt Black. While he is disguised, he follows the crew on dangerous missions to rebel against the power-hungry and learns and grows as a person. The only problem is that Sean, who used to hate Black, notices that something has changed. I promise you, this show is full of action and different emotions! Definitely one of the best shows I watched ever!
If you are interested, please check them out! Btw 2 and 3 are free on RUclips with English subtitles! You can find it on the official channel GmmTV.

Yes, totally Thank Goodness there’s another season coming… but at the same time, I only want one more season! At the end of this next one, I want them (the Swedish government) to have made an accommodation for Wille (and any other gay royals in Sweden) that they can be who they are, keep their position, and show that the country has moved to the head of the pack with the most progressive and open parts of the world! I want that because 1) I don’t want to have to deal with a repeat of this dissolution of the relationship cliffhanger, 2) I don’t want the show to go beyond when it’s still really good (and that gets harder the longer you keep going) and 3) Sweden actually did this in October, 2021!!! (and I think the positive reception to Young Royals had something to do with that, which is totally amazing), and they should celebrate that through the storyline!

Thanks for great reactions to this show, I've really enjoyed watching these videos! What I love most about this show is that no character is fully good or fully bad. The good people are all flawed somehow, and the bad people always have some kind of motivation for why they do what they do (even if most bad things are unforgivable). I mean, I hate August as much as anyone else but we have to remember that he's a teenager and his world as he knew it was basically crumbling around him. I actually really hope that August and Sara start dating in the second season because I think it would be really cool to see how August would act when hanging out with Sara's family, in an environment we're not used to seeing him in.

The thing you mentioned with the mother not necessarily being homophonic is right, but she clearly disapproves of the relationship because of the tape released. even if the s3x tape had been released of wilhelm and a girl, a shit storm would have occured and he's have to hide that too. i like how this show takes another narrative instead of the typical people being homophobic and the protagonist has a big coming out, it shows a different and more complex side to it. sweden is also one of the most lgbt friendly countries, wayy more than the US so this makes sense.

    • @annafrazier
      @annafrazier Год назад

I agree with all of this. I also believe there is the added element of social class. Simon isn’t “good enough” to be a part of the royal family. The Crown Prince is supposed to be with someone like Felice, “modern nobility” as August calls her. A stark juxtaposition to his name for Simon, Socialist Boy. There is such an emphasis on nobility, with the Society making Wille pledge to “prevent the extinction” of noble families. So I definitely think it’s less about s3xual orientation/gender and more about the overall scandal of a s3x tape and the Crown Prince being in a relationship with a commoner.

As a lgbt person, I think it's great to see a character who puts himself first, who doesn't want to be constantly hidden (even though Wilhem is a prince!). Simon is ready to wait for him, to respect his decision, so respect his! because by dint of saying that he was not understanding enough, you put his life and his feelings behind those of Wilhem because of his status as a prince. Sarah really shouldn't have done, what she did, and shouldn't try to be someone she is not. The Queen is doing, what she think needs to be done, but she doesn't think (that much) about Wilhelm and what he wants and what would make him happy; traditions and reputation comes before anything else. I loved when Wilhelm said to Simon, that he loves him, and the final shut seems to refer to the first episode with the shut of him in the sofa and it indicates, that more drama is yet to come. For a short show, I would love for you to react to It's A Sin(British HBO series from 2021, it only has 5 episodes), also Tale of 1000 stars(a Thai series from 2021 as well) only has one season.

Love your reaction to this series! Sorry about a long comment (and it is basically a copy paste from a comment I left on a different reactors video, but I just find the information important, so I'll post it here as well!):
Something that I truly love about this show is that not being heterosexual is NEVER the problem! It is not something that someone at school has issues with, and neither is that the issue with the Queen. Nothing about her reaction is due to homophobia or lack of acceptance for her sons sexuality. The actual issue is that a.) a very intimate tape was released of Wilhelm, something that would be a huge issue no matter if the other person in the video was a guy or a girl or anything else... This both due to it being improper for royals to appear in sex tapes (or close to it), but also Wilhelm is a minor which makes it extra problematic and b.) Wilhelm is not in a confirmed relationship which again would be an issue no matter who he was rumoured to be with (she obviously handles the situation horribly, but not because of the who, but because of it happened at all!).
It was actually announced on October 28, 2021, a clarification of the Swedish law that regulates our monarchy that there is nothing in it which hinders LGBTQ+ relationships in the royal family. (The headline was something like "Princess Estelle is free to marry whoever she wants". Princess Estelle is the oldest child of Crown Princess Viktoria, and Viktoria is next in line to the throne.) Maybe this clarification was done due to this series, maybe it was something that would have been done anyways, but either way it is so refreshing to see that not being heterosexual is no longer considered taboo, even among the royal family which otherwise stands for traditional values.
The current King of Sweden is married to Silvia (who was born in Germany and was not born into royalty) and together they have three children. Their oldest is Viktoria, our current Crown Princess. She's married to Daniel, a man she met when she hired him as her personal trainer. They officially dated for 5 years before they moved in together, and then for another 2 years before they got engaged. The second child was Prince Carl-Philip and he married Sofia. Sofia was known before dating the prince, not due to her being royalty but because of her being on the show Paradise Hotel. She officially dated the prince for 4 years before they were engaged. The third child is Princess Madeleine, who married Christopher. Christopher is the only spouse of the royal children who did not get a prince/princess title. This is, among other things, due to him wanting to remain active in the private economy sector, something not allowed for royalty (they should be neutral). They only dated for just under two years before they were engaged (and that was considered a controversial short period of time). Madeleine and Christopher lives in the US with their children, and their children do not have royal titles, so they will be just like everyone else (normal if you will).
So I like the way this situation was handled in the show, as it probably is quite close to how it actually would be handled had Wilhelm been the real crown prince!
Also, I know that a lot of this seems to be on Wilhelms terms, but maybe that is the way it has to be - after all he is the one who is the celebrity, and it is he who has to face media, public opinion and his actions could actually affect the whole country. Of course Simons feelings and wishes must also be respected, but he could be a bit more understanding of Wilhelms situation. And lastly - they are both 16. That is so young, and such a difficult period in everyones lives. But Simon faces this difficult period with his mother, sister and his best friends by his side, he is out and he has a great support system, while Wilhelm on the other hand very recently lost his only supportive family member, and he literally have no close friends. This means that he faces his difficult period with only the judgement of the public by his side, which is a very different situation from the one that Simon is in... I love how you comment on this, as most other reactors don't.... A lot of people tend to forget that Wilhelm just lost his brother and had his whole life changed.
I agree that I, personally, would put the happiness of my own child above public opinion, but in all honestly I would probably try to find a way to do both. The Queen handled the situation horribly, but maybe she could have made a statement saying that it didn't matter who was in the video and that her son is still a minor, as well as advised Wilhelm that he should be more careful, at least until he has something serious with Simon...

    Hello,
True it is like Wille private life is professional as you say, it is sad.
You are right it is clearly him because of the facts in the video, it is stupid to deny.
For Simon accent, it is Spanish accent more than italian, because the actor Omar is Venezuelan / Swedish. Maybe it is coming back when he yells.
I kind of disagree for Erik. If you listen at both conversations they had together, each time he asked Wille to respect the family values, to pretend to do thing for the image, to assume his role. So I wouldn't be so sure the monarchy image wouldn't be his position here too. But yes I hope he wouldn't defend August.
"I am kind of pissed that she is more angry for Simon" exactly my feeling about Sara. Simon privacy has been violated, it has to be painful, and she is not here for him.
I am disturbed by the fact that Simon almost plays the dad role for Sara. Strange!
"What is it to fix with Wille" thank you, nothing.
I think August is Sara's model, not Felice, in terms of status, searching for perfection, having power at school, being selfish....Felice is more like Simon or Wille, more altruistic, genuine.
About living at school, Felice or Wille could have helped her, no need for August, so it is just a choice of partner.
Have you noticed Wille just doesn't care about people knowing about his relation: he defends it to his mum, he hugs him in public....1i feel the situation has nothing to do with what he wants, or him being ashamed of Simon. It is only about the royal rules for a partner he tries to respect, despite of his love for Simon....difficult to do both.
About those royal rules, it is not only about being gay, it is also about social class differences. It seems crazy in the 21 century, but Wille has no right to Love at all, he just have to procreate royal blood kids for legacy and that is it....what a sad life! you said about love "it is worth it", yes but Love doesn't exist in the royal world. And for them he is just rebellious to want to love someone.
There is a misunderstanding here when Simon said "It is everything in your terms....you need figure out what you want". For a normal person yes, but for Wille no. He has litterally NO terms, NO willing : he just doesn't do what he wants. So what the point in asking him to decide what he wants? He has no say in the matter. Unless you ask him to abdicate? Or to fight at 17 against the royal institution?
I don't think it has anything to do about "coming out, or being ready to come out" or "the relation worth it". Wille is just not allowed to love anyone; girl or boy, and specially not noble people as working class.
Unfortunately public persons hide their private life all their life, and their partner too. I get that Simon doesn't want this kind of life. Wille has no choice for himself in his actual situation, but Simon has.
"you can see his heart break" when Simon breaks up. Yes I agree t is devastating.
Just a note, Simon and Wille actors, Omar & Edvin are are giving me chills from the emotions they express, they are really amazing, in this episode particularly.
And ok not in a positive way, but August and Sara actors, Malte & Frida are very good actors too, they are believable, right.
"They will accommodate him if he tells the truth", well i think they will make him abdicate because it is unacceptable but hope is good.
Yes after his mother new betrayal, I feel that he is done following orders. I don't say he will quit the royal family, but he will maybe try to move some things right, for his future in general, not only for his current situation. I don't know how?
Yes the motherhood is low in the royal family. She has no loyalty, no compassion towards Wille, it is only duty, sad.
I like you pointed that Wille is very lonely, no real family to support, as Simon has. It will be a very sad Christmas indeed, thank you Simon to point it.
Yes this show is very special. It feels very authentic, the characters are complex and deep, the relation are realistic, the persons communicate, have no crazy bad manipulative intention (even August is impulsive in his bad moves). The show brings a lot of emotions through body language, little touches, moments. Congratulation to the script, the filming, the acting. It was a great moment.
I am excited for the story to continue. I am a bit afraid too that it would be less authentic because of fans expectation pressure...we'll see.
Filming at spring, so releasing at summer or at autumn I guess?
Yes I agree on Wille character development, He really grew with his relationship (living his relation), also how to manage bad situations (drug), or how to manage his anger without fighting (August). And grieving and take the king responsibilities help to grow faster I guess. I feel people don't understand him, so they decide to blame him instead.
Thank you for your pertinent and genuine reactions of YR.

Also re: Sara. I don’t completely understand why she hooked up with August. Is this part of a role that she’s playing? I don’t know. But I do understand where she’s coming from with the video and not telling anyone. She is someone who was ignored and bullied, never had friends and couldn’t make connections due to her Asperger’s. And now, she finally has the things that she wanted. She has friends and people who care about her and a life she actually enjoys. She is getting good grades and set up for future success. She’s not lonely all the time. And now she might lose that because of something that has nothing to do with her. The fact that she would have to leave the place she has actually found belonging in because of someone else is so unfair, even if that person is her brother. Obviously she loves Simon to death, but I understand WHY she did something selfish like this. It’s disappointing but I get it.

She feels betrayed by her brother because he involved himself in their father’s life again, dad shows up at the school, and she’s devastated. This is her getting back at Simon for that, plus she sees a way to possibly advance herself through August. Now that August’s betrayal is out in the open though, he doesn’t need Sara at all… unless he can get Sara to get Simon and Wille back together and in turn that could get August back in the good books with the Royals… but who knows?!?!

@@jmsrh_3294 ok but you're forgetting that the end of the 5th episode has her finding out simon saw their (possibly) abusive father for weeks and didn't lied to her about it. she's very rightfully mad. of course she cares, she just didn't show it and lashed out because that's what happens when you're angry at someone.

@@jmsrh_3294 also you're minimizing what simon did despite her saying a bunch of times how triggering and upsetting even hearing her dad's name is, but her sleeping with august is the ugliest betrayal? they've both done problematic things to each other. his betrayal isn't any better.

@@yarinhazan147 are you forgetting that it's Simon's father too? the "ugliest betrayal" is the fact that she knew who leaked the video, but kept it to herself so that she could fit in. It's also painfully obvious that both Simon and Sara were effected by their father's drug abuse, and yes they both cope differently (and they both have different mental illnesses); but if Simon ever chooses to forgive his father, Sara has no right to lash out at Simon for it.

@@daviskj5488 he didn't forgive his father, he brought him back into their life and lied to her about seeing him. he kept a secret from her, she kept a secret from him. just because he was affected too doesn't mean he gets to reintroduce that abuse back into her life. it's still a betrayal.
