You can be bad at chess or start at the very early age, But you should use the real terms. And if you dont use the real terms against newbies they will never learn. Lots of people are not native english but they’re trying to speak in english in chess to recognize the names of the pieces, there’s term lists in chess and theres no need to destroy them
@ You have a point that using unofficial terminology may alienate non-native English speakers learning chess. But this is an English stream. In order to watch and enjoy the stream you need to be fluent enough to understand English, so you will be able to understand unofficial, yet descriptive terms like 'eat' or 'juicer' (oddly enough saying 'juicer' is more descriptive than official terminology if you understand the slang). Also, this is a casual setting. The goal is to get new people into the game, and enforcing the official terms can be burdensome, when you can simply borrow terminology from other games that is easily understandable. It's obvious what someone means when they say 'eat' or 'kill' a piece for example. Chess has been academic for long enough. People are trying to make it a GAME again.
Not really a great teacher. Patient and good coach. Hikaru isnt explaining things at the level of the new players though. Telling people things is different from explaining things. And being a good teacher is more about understanding the pupil's thinking
