It honestly sounds so massive. I love it. Pitch shifting will probably not get you that full demon-growling tone. I just got my first 7 string and I'm already wanting a 9 string lmao.
that route is done to death though. I have a 7 string I keep it in b flat tuning and I keep the bass player happy. Plenty of death metal bands like carcass and chuck schuldiner use b flat or d standard. practicing and not retail therapy is what makes a evil track. Bass players kill music and groove so why do you think they wouldn't kill you?
@@smeagol7247 I'm always resisting the urge to downtune my 7 a half step (I mean... Nevermore, bro). But I digress. I'm with you on bass playing. Anything lower and the lowest note starts having a muddy sounding attack with that sub-resonance afterwards instead of a clear and decisive note. A 5 string bass and a 7 string guitar is a good pair and helps creatively limit you, imo. I find listening to good metal that is recorded in a certain tuning causes one to stick to that tuning. 9 strings seem to still be very polarizing to alot of people so I'd like to add to that discussion The reason I'm interested in a 9 string is really simple, I'm not gonna go out there and but loads of guitars for different tunings and having one guitar that goes from stupid low to standard E means I can play most if not all of the music I like with minimal changes to tuning and all on one solid guitar and that alone is a selling point for me that I don't see enough people talking about. @biohazard8295 depends on the tuning I wanna play in, I do love the sound of a low C# which can be done on 8 but if I wanna play drop E then I fall into the same issue, I have tried lower than C#1 but I don't enjoy playing that low
So Mr Baena, (grrr) you didn't use all 24 frets on all nine strings (I'm over 55 and going to freak it) if I was there, I would play some pentatonic blues on it like you should. All you metal kids should just be playing your 21 fret basses! Huge congrats for working with Ibanez, Andrew! Turbo edit for clarity, I was purely being ironic with the first half of this post, This guitar is really sick as was the demo that accompanied it.
So happy to see you getting some love from Ibanez man. And just for clarification, is that switch to coil split or is that for the active/passive voicing on the fishmans? Just wondering because there was no mention of the voicing changes that are one of the selling points on the Fishmans, and usually the coil split stuff is something people have to enable after the fact with the moderns. If accurate, interesting for Ibanez to set it up with just one voicing and going for the split by default instead.
I believe that this 9 string guitar makes only sense for Ibanez... they believe that if they introduce a 9 string model then more people will buy 7 and 8 string model , but they will also keep their 6 string models . totally agree, putting more strings is not a point, is better to create more 7 or 8 baritone guitars, for example 7 string 28inch, because there's a lot 7 string with 26.5inch from Ibanez and honestly I don't get the point with this 26.5, why 95% of 7 string is in this scales and then you creates 8 string with the same scale 😁 and honostely 90% don't want to play 9 string because of huge neck, thers no point in my opinion
