    It honestly sounds so massive. I love it. Pitch shifting will probably not get you that full demon-growling tone. I just got my first 7 string and I'm already wanting a 9 string lmao.

    • @smeagol7247
      @smeagol7247 Год назад +5

      that route is done to death though. I have a 7 string I keep it in b flat tuning and I keep the bass player happy. Plenty of death metal bands like carcass and chuck schuldiner use b flat or d standard. practicing and not retail therapy is what makes a evil track. Bass players kill music and groove so why do you think they wouldn't kill you?

      @@smeagol7247 I'm always resisting the urge to downtune my 7 a half step (I mean... Nevermore, bro). But I digress.
      I'm with you on bass playing. I think the bass guitar still "thumps" down to either a B or an A# (depending on the instrument). Anything lower and the lowest note starts having a muddy sounding attack with that sub-resonance afterwards instead of a clear and decisive note. A 5 string bass and a 7 string guitar is a good pair and helps creatively limit you, imo.
      I find listening to good metal that is recorded in a certain tuning causes one to stick to that tuning. I mean, c'mon, a 7 string is already brutally low in B-Standard. Fear Factory, Scar Symmetry, Carcass, Soilwork, Fleshgod Apocalypse and F.F.D.Punch are all super chug (to name a few, some just downtuned 6).

      @@brianbergmusic5288 Tuning half a step down sounds great on my cheap Ibanez 7 string I use moderate amount of distortion and use overdrive to boast the tone. Everyone uses the bottom frets on a 7 string I use the top and it sounds awesome. Just got to be original in the way you use an instrument if your band is the rotting zombie corpses from Venus who playing 8 strings in drop g and your music is a drop g version of slayer. and your solos sound like a seal being run over by a steam roller. then I absolutely agree with you use the low b string to finish your pentatonic riff like carcass unfit for human consumption it sounds fantastic. if you think b flat is brutally low then drop g or drop b might give you a heart attack. Tell me how many catchy 7 string riffs there are zero. the tip is dont djent. Certainly would not go lower then b flat. i suggest you try it out because between drop a and b standard b flat is my favorite tuning.

      @sfishy5540 Год назад +2

      @@TheRandomSpectator I don't really agree... I think its good to have a variety of choices. Also, if the whole point of a 9 string is to maintain the low range AND high range sounds(as the video mentions), then 28" is much more reasonable for the treble strings. If you want a guitar solely for low tunings, a baritone 6 or 7 string makes more sense. A 9 string is, by its very design and intention, a compromise, and 28"-29" makes more sense than 30"+

That being said, I wish my 7 string was a multiscale (the trebles are a smidge less easy to bend than the strat with merely .5" scale length difference). Why guitars with more than 7 strings are NOT multiscale is beyond me. You're disrespecting the treble strings keeping them that stupidly long. Physics, bruh.

    9 strings seem to still be very polarizing to alot of people so I'd like to add to that discussion
    The reason I'm interested in a 9 string is really simple, I'm not gonna go out there and but loads of guitars for different tunings and having one guitar that goes from stupid low to standard E means I can play most if not all of the music I like with minimal changes to tuning and all on one solid guitar and that alone is a selling point for me that I don't see enough people talking about.
    Like to elaborate I love chugging on the low strings but when I wanna do leads I either have to switch to a higher tuned guitar or completely retune and restring my main guitar and I don't wanna buy a guitar that has all of the same features as one I already own just so I can put one in drop E and the other in E standard

    Huge congrats for working with Ibanez, Andrew!

    So happy to see you getting some love from Ibanez man.
    And just for clarification, is that switch to coil split or is that for the active/passive voicing on the fishmans? Just wondering because there was no mention of the voicing changes that are one of the selling points on the Fishmans, and usually the coil split stuff is something people have to enable after the fact with the moderns. If accurate, interesting for Ibanez to set it up with just one voicing and going for the split by default instead.

    I believe that this 9 string guitar makes only sense for Ibanez... they believe that if they introduce a 9 string model then more people will buy 7 and 8 string model , but they will also keep their 6 string models . I think it would have more sense to create a baritone guitar that has only that last strings - 9th , 8th , 7th , 6th , 5th , 4th - and they would think more about neck shape adjustment , rather than creating a guitar with... two truss rods .

    • @alexvukovic7814
      @alexvukovic7814 Год назад

      totally agree, putting more strings is not a point, is better to create more 7 or 8 baritone guitars, for example 7 string 28inch, because there's a lot 7 string with 26.5inch from Ibanez and honestly I don't get the point with this 26.5, why 95% of 7 string is in this scales and then you creates 8 string with the same scale 😁 and honostely 90% don't want to play 9 string because of huge neck, thers no point in my opinion

    When it is time to change the strings might be very tedious

    I feel like any guitar that has more than 7 strings and a scale length over 26in should be multiscale

    Their line up this year for extended range was disappointing af. That 9 string and rgd8 are cool but no locking tuners on the 9? Nickel frets on both? That s series multi scale got evogold frets and locking tuners. I wish that headless 7 string model got the same color as this 9.

    Ehh the 9th string works for like djent, but, it just doesn't seem to work well. I actually like 9 string guitars especially with a floyd rose whammy BUT I admit that 8 strings seems to be the peak and 7 seems to work the best while 6 is the most common for valid reasons. I'll likely get a 9 string at some point, very rarely used guitar as it is, it'll be fun to play with such a toy, such a instrument.

    Sounds way better than I thought. Personally not for me. At some point want to get a 7 string.
