    Menace to Society is a classic. This movie as well as Colors, and Boys in the Hood was my 1st introduction to Southern California gang politics. I was always a fan of MC Eiht, Dj Quik, Snoop, and other artist out of Southern California but Menace put a visual to what I was hearing artists rap about out of Southern California specifically the gangs and the politics of it. The movie was well written and directed. I hate obviously that 2PAC had the fallen out with the Hughes Brothers as I think 2PAC would have been great in whatever role he had.

    • @thabomboneni2994
      @thabomboneni2994 3 месяца назад +6

      I hear what you saying but I didn’t see menace as a gang politics type movie, there’s really no gangs in menace yeah A Wax might have been a Crip but the gang aspect was not really emphasized, I saw it as like homies growing up in the hood type of thing and the stuff that happens in that environment

      @thabomboneni2994 Probably should be phrased differently, but all those movies speaking for myself, whether menace, colors, or Boyz in the hood, provided a visual of what was being rapped about. Whether it be gangs, street politics, senseless violence, police brutality, inner city, or other issues. I didn't grow up in the inner city or lower socioeconomic environment. My background was upper middle class, largely caucasian affluent community. So, to hear rappers like MC Eiht or DJ Quik speak on something was different as well as seeing it portrayed on screen. But as someone who is active in my community and serves it. I see the difference between my Era of 1990s and the current era.

    Eiht on point with that breakdown. If they was claimin' sets in Menace, shit probly woulda fractured the momentum of the movie. It's probly hard to imagine now, but in '93, you wasn't gettin' on no silver screen throwin' up hoods without concrete consequences. Matter fact, you probly wasn't even watchin' the movie unless your hood was bein' represented in the movie, and that kinda dynamic woulda crippled the foundation of any commercial product.

      @@GhostRider-870 Precisely. Yellin' Compton was more than risky enough, let alone standin' on stage screamin' Kelly Park Crip. Aside from the beef it woulda sparked, it woulda completely cut them off from the support of any hood that wasn't down with the hoods bein' repped on stage, and them mixtapes woulda still been in Dre's trunk to this day.

    1)I looked it up & Tyrin’s memory isn’t very great. He played a character named Charlie Green on “America’s Most Wanted” who was initiated, & then violated, into/outta a Crip gang. It’s the only credit he has for that show so I don’t know where he played a “Blood,” but it wasn’t on “AMW.”
    2)The reason they stayed away from naming Crips/Bloods in general, let alone any individual sets, WAS mainly due to “Colors.” That movie extremely upset Blood members because it made them look week, as if they were inferior to Crips. Roccet is a Crip terminator, slaughtering & terrifying Bloods while Hi-Top is selling drugs TO young Crips while HIDING his affiliation. Roccet is idolized by all the Crips while Hi-Top gets violated BY fellow Bloods in jail FOR selling to Crips. Crips are smokin’ Bloods while the Bloods…well, are being SMOKED by Crips. Despite Crips outnumbering Bloods @ LEAST 3-To-1, obviously it wasn’t so one-sided when it came to bangin’, retaliations, killers, fighters, etc or there wouldn’t BE no Bloods. So, while Crips may have left the theaters satisfied, Bloods left angry & insulted… Who could blame them?!
