My Dad was a builder. In days past the builder could do everything but on big or difficult jobs he got in the experienced guys. My Dads motto is do it right, do it once. My motto is if you don't need a degree to do it then google it. 😆

I'm surprised he doesn't start from the centre and work his way out to each end when applying tape... that would prevent the tape buckling or coming off...

Very strange, I've hire a builder to do square set finish bulkheads in my house all around the ceiling, and on the square where the bulkhead meets the ceiling and the wall ( internal corners) he doesn't use a basecoat and tape like in the video. Instead he is using No more gap or "gap filler". Any thoughts on that? Is that acceptable?

That's more hassle then just giving it a skin coat

Thought so too. Was suggested to go that instead of plastering. Seems so much more hassle than just giving it a plaster coat.

@@TheChardygirl007 the idea isn’t wrong, it’s just poor execution by the person doing it. ruclips.net/video/UJ17oTw0jkI/видео.html I’m a professional and this is one of the only blokes on RUclips who I’d take notice of

    • @TheChardygirl007

I’ve subscribed to him but as I didn’t check notifications sooner I, of course, had already started plastering my niche and again of course, did it wrong. Now I see what I did wrong and it was, absolutely of effing course, right at the very start when I put the dry tape on without a skim coat first for it to stick to.
Welp. I’m just going to have to put another 49 layers of plaster on top to build it out and hope it doesn’t just crack and fall out anytime soon. I’m starting to wonder if basing my ability to do a whole bathroom on the success of a single wall niche is entirely wise but the smaller the budget it seems the fewer the choices. Thanks for the link, it’s nice to see an Aussie for a change.
