I love my DX170. Got it on 11/11 sale for less than $300 - I think it was an error. The sound is amazing, and I like the design, Android 11, etc. Only minor complaint is slow performance on some apps (Room ARC for example) and battery life using balanced output is a little less than advertised. But we buy these mainly to play music, and the sound is amazing!!
Thank you Zoes! After many hours watching, revising, revisiting & studying your reviews- I now have a pretty blue DX 170. I must say- it's very beautiful. I bought it predominately for IEM use considering portability. I have a Fiio m11 Pro, thanks to your reviews, that I love and use at home with a few different headphones (you can take credit there too). I have not decided on my favourite setup yet, but love the journey. I might never have 'the wall', but I have been able to collect & experience some of the hi-lights from your discoveries. I literally thought that I had a problem with my ears as music just didn't sound good to me anymore? I then discovered your world of DAP's & IEM's & Headphones & realised that it was the medium & the delivery that was lacking. Thank you Zeos, music is alive & detailed & full and rich & beautiful once again! Who would have thought that it was crappy earbuds, crappy compression and a crappy mp3 players to blame 🤣! You are my audio go to guru, thanks so much!
Hi! I was wondering how tidal runs on dx170. Have you tried it? I’m trying to decide between a portable amp and a dap. Especially for my fiio fh9 iem. I’m using them right now with my fiio k9 pro ess, but this one is more for my meze empyreans. Is there something similar in terms of sound quality, but portable? Is dx170 an option or should go the M11 pro way? Or maybe some other options. Thank you and have a Happy New Year!
BTW although I completely agree with you on bottom headphone jacks (dealbreaker) I like my track forward in top and track back on bottom (hate me) because i carry my DX160 in my righ pocket upside down in my right pocket. I like how iBasso gives you the option of button configuration.
Looks like I'm getting this over the Fiio and Hiby. I just like where the IO is located, supports my needs, and doesn't break the bank. It's also slimmer than I thought it would be, just an extra plus. Like it's so thin I can put both my phone and DAP in the same pocket.
I remember the time when you could get a great DAP for $300-400 and it was mid-high-level dap like Fiio X5 II and you could get a sound worth every penny. But now all these daps sounds like $50-100 dongles and can't even functional at a normal speed.
The Ibasso's are outstanding with their musical sound. This is what I was looking for in DAP's! Something between neutrality and outright coloration of sound. I like my DX 170 a hell of a lot. And my next player will be an Ibasso as well. Only higher class.
Hi! I was wondering how the software in dx170 runs. Some people say it is slow and if you are using tidal, like I do, it’s not worthy. I’m trying to decide between and a portable amp and a dap. Especially for my fiio fh9. I’m using them right now with my fiio k9 pro ess, but this one is more for my meze empyreans. Is there something similar in terms of sound quality, but portable? So if there isn't a Play app store, then does it not run the Spotify app? Seems like a pretty big omission for a DAP. I guess you could run it through the Chrome browser but that doesn't offer the same audio quality.
That sticker got yeeted. 😂 Definitely is a good colour though, rare to see different colour DAPs to grey, gold, silver and black. Looking forward to your reviews for the Cayin N7 and the new Hiby R6 Pro (launching sometime this month). If you can do a comparison between the two would be amazing! Love the purple of the OG pro and hopefully that carries across onto the new one as a colour option. 🤞
I have used bb in the past and recently bought a product with bb chips they are fantastic. By the way the shanling mo pro you talked me into basically replaces sliced bread. The only thing it doesn't have is built in streaming for Spotify or Tidal. Its a connectivity bulb with a built in player.
Either my ears are broken or I had a bad unit because I purchased the DX170 and returned it after using it for a couple of days. It didn't sound anything like the way you describe it Z. I ended up getting a FiiO M11 Plus. The FiiO sounds better to me and that's the most important factor when I'm spending my own $$$. Thanks for the video Zeos. Always informative and entertaining.
How would you describe the sound of the two? I don't like anything that can be described as "smooth" because that usually translates to rolled off treble and a plasticky quality to metallic instruments..
Maybe there are a couple bad units out there… 🤔 I had a blue DX170 for two days and sent it back because the software had more bugs than a bait store… 😕 It restarted out of the blue every now and then… So what is that beautiful hardware and the very good screen worth if you can’t do what you wanted - listening to music? So it had to go. Now I have a Fiio M11s that Zeos ist ranting the whole day about and I can’t find anything wrong with this DAP 🤷🏼♂️ Maybe the sound of the iBasso is better in an a/b test, but at least the Fiio is working fine and play music as it’s supposed to be! Sorry Zeos, this time I can’t see, what you’re talking about…
@@jafizzle95 I wouldn't describe the FiiO M11 Plus as "smooth". I find it to be very enjoyable to listen to. I'm a little older now and sometimes need to EQ things to get the be listening experience out of them but this is one unit I do not have to do that to. I keep the built in EQ turned off and it sounds great to me. I only agree with Zeos on one aspect of the DX170 and that's looks. It is a nice looking unit. It's a little on the light side for me though. To be honest when I'm spending that much money on a DAP, I want it to have some heft to it.

Why do I need that screen if the player is stuttering and is unresponsive every single second of usage?
Hi Zeos! Got Topping E30II/L30II stack for my Genelec G Ones / headphones /iems just recently and wanted to say thanks for the recommendation! The L30II is a powerhouse for it's size! Especially bass got way more juice now if that makes sense. Really like the E30II DAC too, it made the Genelecs stop having a real shitty attitude and put them in line.
Glad to hear that this is an excellent DAP. I have had a hard time justifying a DAP when my Android phone and the various BT and USB-C DACs I have work so well. A great sounding DAP for under 500 USD might be the way to go. I am typically an AKM fan but I have liked Burr and Cirrus Logic DACs in the past. I have not been a fan of recent ESS DACs with rare exception (the ones in my now replaced LG V30 were good for a phone). Most of them convey treble in a crunchy and sort of digital way and it annoys me. I've kind of got to the point that if it's equipped with an ESS DAC I just look the othet way. I will keep an open mind in case the issues are resolved, but I suspect it's a tuning choice and some people like it that way.
I absolutely love my 2020 DX160 but after a while it stopped reading M3U playlist. Borderline dealbreaker for me. It also dumps the card every few times I power it off requiring me to rescane 2230Gb worth of music. Now that my DX160 battery is waining id love to upgrade to the DX170 but I'm skeptical of the functionality. I like the idea of the new Hiby R6 III because it has open source Android and I can sync it directly with Media Monkey Pro. I have no idea what it sounds like other than comparing the original R5 to my DX160. iBasso won on sound signature and amp power. Keep up the good videos Zios.
I just jumped from DX160 to R6 III. I think HiBy sounds little beefier. And due to system wide MSEB I can tweak the sound to overcome drawbacks of my IEMs, so that's perfect. I don't know what's with rescanning the files after card is removed as I used Fiio app - it keeps the library (and never user Mango player as this is featureless crap). i didn't even think about DX170 because it still uses garbage Rockchip CPU.
Z, any plans to review the new Sony DAPs? I already have the WM1AM2 and am very happy with it, but curious what your thoughts would be on Sony's sound signature and hardware.
The Dx 160 sounds great but the usability is horrible; extremely slow to operate, insanely long loading times, sluggish performance, awful BT connectivity... I hope the Dx170 is better from that point of view, because it's a real shame the Dx160 was so poorly optimized in terms of user experience. Sound wise it's my favorite DAP in its price range but not a month goes by where I don't want to replace it due to how slow it is.
I don’t know if you know this (I’m fairly certain this also applies to dx160, but that’d be easy to google) but there are a couple things you can disable (almost sounds like you’d have to) to make it less slow. I don’t remember what, animations (I think?) and something else, but if you go on the dx170 thread on headfi that’s been talked about a great deal.
@@GrB-M I remember disabling a few things, but thanks a lot for the suggestion, I'll definitely look into it! I'm currently waiting for the M0 Pro to become available because I want a small DAP for sports, the dx 170 is something I may consider around Christmas xD

The player is great, but why are we not allowed to have on/ off switches any more. My iBasso DX170 goes flat by itself all the time & I am pretty sure to power it down by holding in the volume button and touching the power down prompt on the lcd. Yet still whenever I pick it up to use it the battery is completely dead. I have the auto detect when headphones unplugged enabled, yet it still runs the battery flat when not used. What is wrong with electronics manufacturers, glued in batteries on high end DAP's that are not user replaceable & systems designed not to be easy to switch off? Zeos I think that some of these manufacturers listen to you? Please pass on my thoughts if you agree? 🙏 Thanks & of course, keep up the great work!
Z, Just a note about "my Tea2's" When I first got them, they did not burn right away. When they did... The warmth and bass, is now undiscribable. Best, D.
Hi Z, Did you already compared this DX with rs 2 more in depth? I need something new, cause my cowon S9 is unfortunately falling apart slowly at last:/ ... pitty there isnt players with that battery life anymore. I enjoed the simplicity .. no wifi, no android. What should i get ? :))
I am looking for a music player. DX170 is 100 euros cheaper than DX180. Is the price difference worth it? Also I have the DC04 Pro dongle. How much do I gain sound wise? I use Fiio FD5 ie.
I have just bought a DX170, if I open the mango player app how can I return to the home screen other than restarting the player. I cannot find any instructions on how to do this. Can anyone help, this is driving me insaned

Hey zeos, do you just keep your music locally stored or do you have a server set up to stream? Also I would love a list of the music you listen to. I write down what I can but I can't go through all of your videos just for the music recommendations
Can this player also run offline tidal songs? Because on some other cheaper players I have seen people mention, they support tidal app, however the playing of offline / downloaded tidal songs does not work.

Compared both with my Audeze LCD-2 Classic - G5 seems to have wider soundstage and more lenear sound signature than DX170. The iBasso gear IMO has brighter treble, stronger Base and overall more impactfull (kinda v-shaped) sound...
I just ordered one, can someone point me in the direction of someplace where I can get music? I usually listen to music off youtube music but this will be my first portable audio device since the iPod shuffle
I initially thought of getting the Shanling M6 Ultra, but now that I see this... yes, price is way way off. Is the M6 Ultra still worth the money or does this kinda come close?
@@ZReviews ahh roger that. Ill go test them out soon, hopefully I could get my hands on the Shanling H7 too, wondering if the lack of UI is worth the compromise
@@hatofbulma I think so, but that's because I had a weird 170. I got it originally because I couldn't find a 240 anywhere in stock. So I got the 170, it sounded fine, but I hated the way it ran, the processor seemed underpowered. I didn't like the wheel on it at all, it was very difficult for me to get enough grip to actually move it up or down. I also tried to apply a software upgrade from iBasso and that rendered it completely unusable. Like it didn't turn on or respond to anything. Not even taking a charge. At that point I returned it and started looking for a 240, a green one. No luck from a vendor in the states, but I saw MusicTeck had green Shanling M6 Ultras. Picked one up and I LOVE IT. Size, weight, sound: all on point. The 665 processor is much snappier, too. The iBasso sounded good and I liked the dimensions, but I had a bad experience.
I feel great that I got this from a sweet deal on Ebay, but now I feel like i should've coughed up a little bit more dough and just gone for the Hiby rs2
Hi zeos I'm mad at you. Why is your aspect ratio all fucked up ? what makes you think everyone is watching your videos on an old crt monitor ? It's genuinely hard for me to see the things in the video on my phone
Its 16x10.. I was trying 4x3 but that was too extreme and more to complain about. This aspect actually lets you see more of what is going on than 16x9 and since I film in 4x3 I get to crop less of the image off. The ultrawide FOV of the camera and motion stabilization are limiting factors. Cropping to 16x9 will not make the items I am reviewing larger, just cause more people to be motion sick.
Yes, I am the crazy mf that dailies an M17 because it sounds good enough to make the effort worth it. I want something smaller but I have no way to try before I buy and I am deathly allergic to any kind of dac/amp/dap that can be described as "smooth". I hoped that the Mojo2 would replace the M17 so I spent fuck me amounts of money and I hate the way it sounds because it's "smooth". It turns cymbals (traditionally made of metal) into plastic. The K9 Pro was even worse because it rolls off/"smooths" treble and yet some-fucking-how made everything sibilant. Like, it made the HD 660S sibilant??? And that headphone is the posterchild for "Sennheiser veil". Other plusses of the M17: - volume and headphone jacks on the same side so I can adjust volume without removing from my pocket - Roon Ready. Shove it in my pocket and control audio from my phone without BT incurred loss of quality - Turns into a phenomenal desktop setup when I'm at work - can power just about anything - more inputs than riley reid notsponsoredijustlovethem17
Mine softcrashes on me ranging from once every few days to multiple times a day. The device would become entirely unresponsive and needs a reboot. Hardcrashes quite rarely as well, where it just reboots on its own. Sound is great and all but this is going to be an RMA odyssey. Overall it is rather sluggish as well. Wouldn't be half bad if at least the crashing wasn't there 🤡
♤ ... Dear Zeos! There is such a fairly new player on AKM AK4493SEQ as TempoTec V6. I want to ask, did you listen to him? This is not an expensive player, it does not shine with super-modern hardware, but the manufacturer (according to him) has invested in the audio path. I'm interested in your opinion on V6 and if possible, comparison with dx170 or something else. Have a good day. Best wishes from Ukraine.

Hiny R6 Gen 3 is worth a look...running newer Android PLUS playstore, built in 64gb already..
That's what I am planning on getting but I want to know how it compares to the Ibasso first
I am looking for a music player. DX170 is 100 euros cheaper than DX180. Is the price difference worth it? Also I have the DC04 Pro dongle. How much do I gain sound wise? I use Fiio FD5 ie.
Yeah, you are definitely right.
This DAP is amazing
So can I download my tidal playlist to this even though there’s no play store and can I put it on the as card or just native storage?
When will the review for the new hiby release. I'm thinking about changing from my r6 2020 for the new one.
How is the sreaming? YT Music especially.
do you already have your hands on the new hiby r6 gen 3?
how does it compare to the dx170?
I have just bought a DX170, if I open the mango player app how can I return to the home screen other than restarting the player. I cannot find any instructions on how to do this. Can anyone help, this is driving me insaned
Will you be doing a review of the Shanling M3 Ultra? Is it a worth while upgrade from the M3x?
Gonna Try
@@ZReviews thanks for the reply, I bought a Shanling M3x because of that review a a while back now. Thanks for all the great videos.
@@ZReviewsi Zeos, i know you have the Hiby R6 gen 3. Please don't wait too long to reviewe it because im about to buy my first dap ever. I love the DX170, but It like tot know your thoughts for the Hiby so I can decide between them. Thanks in advance;)
I need to know what the lore behind the pizza hut thing in the rack on the left is... Nobody else??
I noticed z always mentioned his mouse pad, but he usually didn’t put the mouse on it 😂
Is there a case that works for carrying the ibasso?
Can this be used with a soundcard for podcasts?
Shout out from Lansdale PA!
Is this better or equivalent to hiby r6 gen 3?
Hey zeos, do you just keep your music locally stored or do you have a server set up to stream? Also I would love a list of the music you listen to. I write down what I can but I can't go through all of your videos just for the music recommendations
Where can I get the apk for the music player? I want to compare it on my m11
Can this player also run offline tidal songs? Because on some other cheaper players I have seen people mention, they support tidal app, however the playing of offline / downloaded tidal songs does not work.
Anyone know what the Bluetooth is like? I have the Hiby R3 and R5 and both have very poor Bluetooth connection
Is the DX170 an upgrade to my FIIO M11?
no
Yes, definitely
Try the questyle m15
iBasso has a DC04 *pro* usb dongle dac. It would be nice to see a review about it by someone who doesn't look like he is paid by iBasso
It should be called "OHbasso" with all the moaning you did in this video lmao
Let's get back to home theater.
hi sit may i know from yr review you said the IBASSO - DX170 IS reslly great sound if compare with ibasso DX 240 with the best i plan to get either one of this.hopeyou can recomanded tks wish you all the best in success have a nice days.
What about the “Luxury & Precision” DAPs … quite expensive but they say they’re amazing
does it could drive my DT 770 32 ohms? I love how it looks and someone is selling me one for $150USD! (I have the M0PRO)
My ibasso DX170 bluetooth stop working at all ,anyone can help me how to fix it
Hi
Better than topping g5?
Compared both with my Audeze LCD-2 Classic - G5 seems to have wider soundstage and more lenear sound signature than DX170. The iBasso gear IMO has brighter treble, stronger Base and overall more impactfull (kinda v-shaped) sound...
@@piotrszymborski6894 thanks
I just ordered one, can someone point me in the direction of someplace where I can get music? I usually listen to music off youtube music but this will be my first portable audio device since the iPod shuffle
that was quite the jump. how's your experience so far? what headphones did you get for this?
Did you get that free by any chance? There are flaws in this a d how can you say it's better than a fiio? Have you heard their newer DAPs ??
I initially thought of getting the Shanling M6 Ultra, but now that I see this... yes, price is way way off. Is the M6 Ultra still worth the money or does this kinda come close?
M6 sounds better. But is more bricky in feel and interface. So this for the experience but that for pure sound quality.
@@ZReviews ahh roger that. Ill go test them out soon, hopefully I could get my hands on the Shanling H7 too, wondering if the lack of UI is worth the compromise
I went from the 170 to the M6 Ultra, AMA.
@@harryparadise615 was it worth the upgrade?
Is normal a almost 500$ DAP be slow as shown in this video?
As shown… it’s extremely fast. The chrome load was because he said he never opened it before, it had to do numerous updates before opening.
Watch the latest FIIO dap Review. The M11s
"Like a Nokia phone" 😂
That mouse pad is so good that you use the table instead. 🤣
It does MQA? Then it's too expensive.
I feel great that I got this from a sweet deal on Ebay, but now I feel like i should've coughed up a little bit more dough and just gone for the Hiby rs2
My Android Hiby 5 is paid for. Keeping it till it dies. Best, D. p.s. it plays my files and RUclips Music USB "love it".
I have the r5s, like it but it's got really bad Bluetooth 👎
talking hands ?
Just looked at Amazon UK reviews and the people who bought this product hate it.
In about 4 months they'll release 180
No play store, no roon arc. No roon arc, no way….
I was completely on board until you said it doesn't have any kind of app store.
I waited for these midrange dap’s reviews cause my i eyes were on the hiby rs2,but now ……
out on aliexpress already.

bought it, didn't like it, returned it
When px8 review
Z do the fiio R7
Hi zeos I'm mad at you. Why is your aspect ratio all fucked up ? what makes you think everyone is watching your videos on an old crt monitor ? It's genuinely hard for me to see the things in the video on my phone
Its 16x10.. I was trying 4x3 but that was too extreme and more to complain about. This aspect actually lets you see more of what is going on than 16x9 and since I film in 4x3 I get to crop less of the image off. The ultrawide FOV of the camera and motion stabilization are limiting factors. Cropping to 16x9 will not make the items I am reviewing larger, just cause more people to be motion sick.
inspired by dethonray honey H1
Zeos, looks like you're losing weight.
Every attention seeker should seek attention this explicitly.
i played N64 on it
Yeah
"screen speed is so much better than fiio". which fiio? X5 III? ))))) DX170 is a slow unresponsive player.
YEP, that's the fact, not opinion
Exactly! And my cheaper ...TempoTec V6 have a better sound.)
Other plusses of the M17:
- volume and headphone jacks on the same side so I can adjust volume without removing from my pocket
- Roon Ready. Shove it in my pocket and control audio from my phone without BT incurred loss of quality
- Turns into a phenomenal desktop setup when I'm at work
- can power just about anything
- more inputs than riley reid

2gb ram? Really? Trash.
Wouldn't be half bad if at least the crashing wasn't there 🤡
Just found out that it has a whopping 2GB of RAM, in 2023. Tried it with streaming apps? That should be funny 😉
Смешно то, что вы написали. Он прекрасно работает со стримингом!
You need therapy. But nice review
So Say We All.

I'm glad you did a review of this, I wanted to see this compared to the Sony NW-306 with it's supposed "improved battery"
I have the A106 & it's amazing for the gym with my WF-XM4, but the battery life is dogshit.
Y'know, I don't care that much about the bad battery life, but APKpure is so dumb, the ibasso dx170 works better as a local file player.
