One of the best performances as a widow dealing with deep grief in “The Sporting Life” .. she brings a lot of dimension to her characters and she has an interesting look, beautiful and harsh at times, perfect for film. Thank you for sharing her bio, loved it..🎉❤
Rachel Roberts was very talented as an actress.I was 10 years old when she died in 1980.I want to see,This Sporting Life.Intense performance from what I saw here.Fritz,I'm enjoying your videos. They're very informative and interesting. Thank you!!!💛💛
She was also wonderful in 'Saturday Night and Sunday Morning", 1960. An incredible talent, out-classed so many of her contemporaries. She was a very tragic case. Great talent is often unhappy.
thank you Fritz for this heartfelt empathetic analysis of Rachel Roberts. Since I have overlooked this outstanding actor, your analysis feels like gift.
I first saw Rachel in This Sporting life when it was shown on NZ TV in the early 70s,did not know who she was(was still at school) but remembered her role in the film vividly espec her last scene and how striking her performance was--i heard about her later life and death and was gen saddened the loss of someone so talented,I hope she found a lasting peace RIP Rachel 💎 Auckland New Zealand 2023
Just finished the biography of Rex Harrison, Fatal Charm, and he really was the monster he was reputed to be, especially in the way he sought to crush the talent of RR due to his own insecurity.
Rachel Roberts' performance is one of the most unforgettable, harrowing and haunting I have ever seen. Like you said her performance stays in the mind long after you have seen the film and I can safely say that it has left a permanent imprint in my mind. Can't ever forget those eyes. After I saw the film I started to look about her life and work.. Such a sad, tragic life she lead full of personal demons, insecurities and addiction. I am sad that she didn't work much looking at her enormous talent and intense acting skills but glad that she took those kitchen sink parts as she really did leave indelible mark on the cinema because of these. I really wish she is in a peaceful place now. Thank you so much Fritz for this beautiful gift of a tribute about this forgotten acting giant. I was teary eyed at the end. P.S What are your favorite performances of hers?
Thanks so much for your kind words! I loved her in all her BAFTA winning performances and her work in Murder on the Orient-Express but she really shines whenever she is on the screen; I only saw a bit of The Tony Randall Show but even there she had a wonderful talent for comedy
I couldn't have expressed it any better. Ms. Roberts was an immensely talented actress. Her portrayals were so intense and vivid They really stayed with me. 👍
That’s my Great Aunt, her brother is my grandfather who stayed in south Wales. It’s so surreal, she seemed very talented and I’m trying to find out more about her
Thanks for this video, I’ve just watched This Sporting Life, again. Rachel was a very talented actress, unfortunately with her demons and people in her life who did not help. May she R.I.P. 🙏
Thank you very much Fritz for your thoughtful work on Rachel Roberts. She is a bit of a forgotten gem of British acting, but she surely deserves much more attention. Have you seen her in Picnic at Hanging Rock ? :)
@@FritzandtheOscars She does. In that film she also plays the stern person, a headmistress that seemed unbreakable but once disaster hits she is humanised. The character in that film also sadly killed herself in response to the mysterious event in that film's story.
Thank you. A lesser-known film of hers is "The Crowded Day" (1954) with Joan Hickson, Dora Bryan, Dandy Nichols, Thora Hird and Prunella Scales. A fascinating actress whose life came to a harrowing end.
Fritz, that is not a photo of Rachel at the 1:37 mark. That is someone else. However, I have to tip my hat to you for making this tribute for her. You did a great job and I didn't mean that as a criticism -- just a sidenote. The photo of the woman at 1:37 on your video is not Rachel.
Her diary’s were made into a book No Bells on Sunday. Highly recommend the book since it showcases her life and how tortured she was after her divorce from Rex.
I’m so happy I discovered your work, you! Looking so forward already after… Nathalie Wood and Leslie Caron…after a(n addictive) marathon Otherwise said, congratulations for your outstanding work
It's scary to me. I hear my struggles with mental health and self-esteem echoing through her own. I even aspire to be an actress. I wonder if I'll succumb just like she did.

She was wonderful in "This Sporting Life", as well as Richard Harris.... Those were the days, my friend!...

The actress Carol Landis didn't fare too well hooking up with Harrison either.
I'm so sorry her self esteem was so low she thought Rex Harrison was out of her league, no one should think so lowly of themselves

@FritzandtheOscars Ty for the vid! Excellent job. 👍
I think Rachel Roberts has a very beautiful face, perfect for makeup beauty and fashion magazines so I don’t know why they thought she was not pretty
That’s my Great Aunt, her brother is my grandfather who stayed in south Wales. It’s so surreal, she seemed very talented and I’m trying to find out more about her
Thank you for this interesting insight! I put "This sporting life" on my watch list and removed "Irma La Douce" thanks to you ;)
100% the right choice
You chose very well! Irma La Duoce is a fine film, but This Sporting Life is on another level. Imho.
Thanks for this video, I’ve just watched This Sporting Life, again. Rachel was a very talented actress, unfortunately with her demons and people in her life who did not help. May she R.I.P. 🙏
Well here's a story about an actress I didn't know about. Thank you.

I saw it ages ago but don't really remember it. But I remember that Rachel Roberts is the kind of actress who gets your attention very easily

@@andreiiliepopescu6393 Yes, I remember the major points of her story, she's just so memorable; I wish she had done more work
I love her as Hildegard in Orient Express

Thank you for this!
Much appreciated for this deeply insighteful analysis!
She was a really wonderful actress. ❤
Truly!
Another brilliant essay!
Thanks so much!
Waiting intently for Natalie Wood!!
@@barrylangford3276 Part 4 of the series is still in copyright process, so I don't know yet when it will continue
@@FritzandtheOscars Fingers crossed it is cleared soon.
Loved her in Foul Play!
Holy mackerel, I forgot about that one. Yes, she was a standout in a mildly amusing film, with Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase.

thanks for your message - I honestly have no idea but yes, maybe I got tricked by the internet here. Thanks a lot!
Her diary’s were made into a book No Bells on Sunday. Highly recommend the book since it showcases her life and how tortured she was after her divorce from Rex.
Even her method of suicide---drinking bleach---seems unbelievably harsh.
yes, this must have been an extremely painful death...
Yes , To want to inflict such horrible pain upon yourself…heartbreaking!
Wonderful actress 🙏
I’m so happy I discovered your work, you!
Looking so forward already after… Nathalie Wood and Leslie Caron…after a(n addictive) marathon
Otherwise said, congratulations for your outstanding work
Thanks so much!
Can anyone tell me if there any information on her appearance on the Russell hardy show?
Great actress the Sporting Life best movie
The method she used to kill herself was so unutterably brutal… such a gifted but horribly unhappy person . So sad!
Yes, it's very shocking
@BaileyOscar2 I know, but she had tried before and wasn't successful. She was serious about wanting to end it and suicide is not easy to accomplish.
So talented..so tragic. Wish i could have reached out to her and say you are OK
Rex Harrison was not the best choice for any woman, remember Carole Landis?
Unbelievably sexy....they don't make actresses nor women anymore like Rachel Roberts.
It's scary to me. I hear my struggles with mental health and self-esteem echoing through her own. I even aspire to be an actress. I wonder if I'll succumb just like she did.
Don't think like that. Keep going!
It seems that her insecurity started in childhood.
Love you Fritz .
