I've always had a huge fondness for Natalie Wood. I am blind to any criticism of her acting because I simply adore her in every role. She had a fantastic career. Her tragic death was a real shock and affected me at a young age.

Its a shame that this was her last nomination - it was so topical its not surprising she didn't win for it, she deserved some "Butterfield 8" outta nowhere win and it never came. To say that its still relevant today would be an understatement - the abortionist scene is so minimalistic but horrifying precisely by just how much ISN'T shown - you barely even see what catches Natalie's eye that causes her to start screaming hysterically but whatever it was its just nightmarish. It also gave Steve McQueen the opportunity to give a really sincere and tender performance in contrast to his usual "macho" image. The way he gently hugs her and promises to protect her I think we've ALL wished to have had something like that in our lives at least one time or another. Even if ultimately she realized it wasn't meant to be - VERY underrated imho
Awesome movie. Neither actor was given the credit they deserved for this movie. Mcqueen and Wood so beautiful and passionate in this movie. Very believable and its touches your heart when he protects her from harm. Great movie! ❤❤❤❤
Natalie deserved not one but two Special Lifetime Achievement Academy Awards, for: 1), first winner of the 'Worst Actress' Hasty Pudding Award to accept in person; and 2), her monolog to her mother in, Gypsy. As a child in the 1960's I first heard that speech from a TV in another room, and it still reached my head and heart hard. I can hear it now. Maybe Nat wasn't the Best Movie actress, but man could she create some scenes... 'Nobody laughs at me. Because I laugh first. At me! Me, from Seattle. Me, with no education. Love With is so ahead of it's time and is one of my favourite films and of all time !! What on earth are they saying she can't act. Sounds like they're jealous, she was/is brilliant.
She is superb in 'Splendor In the Grass.' I consider her performance equal to Vivien Leigh's in 'Streetcar Named Desire.' Both will live forever on immortal celluloid film.
For me, Love With the Proper Stranger was her most convincing performance followed closely by Splendor ….a very underrated act Tess. She got better as she aged…it was all in her eyes. Unfortunately, She died way too soon in a way that she feared all her life. Drowning in the dark waters off Catalina Island. Was it an accident or murder? To quote Tennessee Williams: “ the truth is at the bottom of a bottomless pit”

For her third and final Oscar nomination: Coulda, woulda, (Wooda), SHOULDA! Patricia Neal's screen time for her win was equal to a supporting actress category. A real shame Paramount pushed her to the lead category over their other which was Natalie.
I think, in terms of Natalie's performances, her stand-out one was in 'Splendor in the Grass', (1961). I thought she gave an achingly sincere and touching performance in that role. She was also very good in 'Inside Daisy Clover', (1965), a very under-rated movie that got very few Oscar nods as nominations, I believe on Ruth Gordon got a nomination from that movie as 'Best Supporting Actress', although she didn't win.

Natalie Wood was not perhaps the greatest of actors, but in the right roles she could be quite incandescent.

Those doe-eyes get me all the time. She was a very good film actress in fact; very expressive (she knew how to use her face).
