I cut them on my CNC, but then engrave them on my laser because it's faster. I can barely keep up with making them. Thank you for the information! I first saw your whiskey smoker video on Reddit when I was trying to find out what types of wood to use to make these, and what to use for and how to make wood chips - which I hadn't gotten a straight answer till now!
Do you do gift boxes? Having one of the whiskey smokers, the butane torch, a whiskey glass and a coaster (that you could make in matching wood), a small bag of wood chips and maybe even some whiskey stones, you could sell that for $150+ easy especially around christmas time!
I sell a gift box with the lighter chips glass and smoker in a fancy box. $50 seems to be the selling price. Sold 1 for $60 in 2 weeks, sold 5 for $50 in 2 weeks. So I sell them for $50 about 2-3 per week consistantly.
I think I have seen every video you have made on these but for the life of me, I forget what you charge for these at markets. I am looking to add these to my shows. Thanks for what you do. I think everyone I watch talks about CNC with me.
You need to look up the ketchup/mustard/jelly debate when it comes to marketing. I believe it’s one of Malcom Gladwells books but there’s plenty. It’s better to give the customer 2-3 choices vs even 5-6. 12 is way to many. Specially when feel and sight are involved. Maybe start with 12 and then hone in on the 2-3 overall, and give the option of personalized stuff on extra time or something. Love the product. Love the concept of selling. First hardest sell is the first. The second is the second. You can see where this goes.
Awesome projects. Since you are talking displays. I am mostly a wood turner. How can the CNC help me with displaying my items. Pens, handles, bowls and such. Keep up the amazing work.👽
I’m not convinced on the bamboo. I too am in love with that material as I recently did a couple of projects. You’re not burning the bamboo. It’s getting singed. And there are only three layers, so I wouldn’t say there is a ton of resin, either. My opinion.

I usually do small pop-up markets, but these whiskey smokers as well as the bottle openers are in my top 5 sellers by quantity. Both items are nice because they are cheap and attention grabbers. They draw customers in to see my more expensive items. I call the smokers and bottle openers the "bait on my hook." lol
FYI you're not completely wrong about mineral oil in fog machines and hazers, the ones they used to use for fog in movies back in the day used mineral oil, but now due to safety regulations SAG requires they use water based ones. Oil is not good to breathe in and also left oil residue on surfaces.
I'm thinking of doing a run of these, but what I have in stock is red, not white oak. Have you tried using red oak for these, and if so what were the performance differences when used by the customer? Or if not, why not? Is there a known reason not to use red oak other than cost?

Red and white oak are actually quite different! Its common to think that they are similar, though. White oak is much more dense and the grain structure makes it more sturdy. The main and most significant difference is how the grain runs. In furniture grade Red Oak you should be able to take a small length and dip it in soapy water and blow through one end and out the other (making bubbles on one end) which cant be done with white oak. In smaller projects like this, its not much difference- but in larger things like boat building its really important!

The original design had 4 shelfs, making 16. So I was very used to thinking there was 16 on the display. But I changed it to 12 so that it was more useful to more people!

Haha thanks! I first started charging $20, but settled on selling them for $25. Those are in person prices

I haven't just based on the color (just a preference thing) otherwise its a great choice!
