no, we dont burn the idols! We take to the water because it signify the birth cycle of Lord Ganesha; just as he was created from clay/Earth, his symbolic statue is as well. you can google more to know about it.. also this video is of the 7th day visarjan.
Suggestion to visit Gujarat Navratri Garaba utsav. Its having amazing in Gujarat at that time. Spectacular management everywhere in that time whole Gujarat celebrating.
