- Navigating new jobs or environments often induces stress and anxiety, prompting feelings of imposter syndrome. In this compelling TED talk, Gabi advocates for ACTION, encouraging viewers to FIGHT these debilitating emotions.
He invites us to leverage discomfort as a sign of growth, urging us to seek help and relish the opportunity to acquire new skills. This approach reframes imposter syndrome, transforming it from a hurdle into a driver for personal and professional advancement. I was a Rhetoric major class of 2020, Orr Fellow, and 2-year captain of the Wabash College Soccer team. Business Consultant at CCC Intelligent Solutions. First-generation Latino from Hammond, IN. The focus of my talk is on taking action, getting unstuck, and navigating through imposter syndrome. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
To anyone listening, wait for the final last two minutes of this discussion, and your mind will be blown away! In lots of positive ways. A new way of thinking/ reframing.
This hits as a new professional. All of my coworkers come from higher SES than me. For a while I was so insecure in such a new environment. Being around more experienced peers made me feel that I, as a new person to the field, it made me feel like I should know everything they know. Thank you for this.
Thank you imposter syndrome, it sounds like you’re the motivator here. Well done on your TED talk!!!
The suffering you experienced is unbelievable. You have so much courage!
This hit me so hard, im 10000% you right now in my life and in my career! Wow!!
5:17 this is exactly how I feel in class. How do some students know this stuff? Why don't professors actually teach it instead of expecting us to know it. Not all of us are smart like that.
can't believe this did not get more views. excellent presentation
there are too many notsogood videos on imposter syndrome. this one is the best I've seen. He is so honest, and so brave. And he's going to help millions.
This does not fully grasp what imposter syndrome is. Imposter syndrome is a belief that _nothing_ you achieve is proof of your capability; every time you reached a goal, it was thanks to circumstance and luck, not you. You can thus go through challenge after challenge, put yourself deliberately through challenges, and come out the other side _still_ feeling inadequate, but, lucky; that time. That leaves you with relentless anxiety (the next challenge could be the one where luck doesn't pull through and your inadequacy, your fraudulence, is exposed) and dread (you're going to end up rejected and alone, reliant solely on your own proven-to-be insufficient abilities, surviving only so long as your luck lasts). A person with actual imposter syndrome who landed that internship would immediately believe they didn't really deserve it, some mistake had been made, but, they had to carry on or else risk being exposed as a fraud, yet, carrying on brings every risk of failing to meet the expectations and being exposed as a fraud. You're not going to ask for help because _that_ will expose you as a fraud.
You did not really have imposter syndrome.
Very good talk but took too many long pauses. If you shortened that, this talk would be better.
The pausing is an annoying type of speaking right? For effect but I do not like it, it's like he can't get it out😅😅
Thank you so much.
I have imposter syndrome as well. It sucks.
This is very nice. Very inspiring. Damn imposter syndrome!
How did you acquire the belief that you're not good enough? The facts are you accomplished success, but didn't youu believe it? TY for your story. you have guts!!
