Joanna Lumley talking some rubbish here indeed, as pointed out by David Bailey.

Lichfield seemed like a decent sort, but still he's had his life handed to him.

    I am not a communist
I do blv there are ranks in society
However somethings bothered me in this clip
Why say dinner is served my lord ? Just say dinner is served. Your lord is the all mighty. That is just lord lichfield .
I didn't like the fact that the elderly butler and the footman had to stand there while they ate probably for over an hour .

It’s no different to how one would address the king or queen now. ‘My Lord’ is the correct mode of address for employees or casual acquaintances anything else I think would be too familiar and inappropriate.

@@JayArgonauts unfortunately a lot of ppl using these ranks or ppl like you don't know the history will apply the form of adress currently used regardless if it's correct universally or not .
Forms of adress of all ranks were tied to religion in earlier centuries.
The king was by the ( grace of God) king _______ so when he was addressed it was ( your grace ) but the grace was grace of God.
Same with the later form of adress ( your majesty) in its a original form it was by the majesty of God king _ _ _ _ shortened to your majesty but all majesty belonged to the all mighty .
To this day king Charles is king by the grace of God.
So old "lords" were lords of a specific "manor " or area to differentiate between our lord ( the all mighty ) and lord of an area , that is why addressing someone as "my lord" only happened when society was secularized.
It being the correct form of address according to peerage books or parliament doesn't mean it was meant to be like that.

@@ageofechochambers9469 My observation was framed specifically within the context of the video posted rather than a historical account of titles generally so my original comment stands. Informally it is Lord (title) or My Lord this is etiquette which is why one doesn’t say ‘dinner is served.’ 🙄
