From the 3 example of chinese contract guns I seen they have all been niter blued. You can tell from handling the original 1930s that the finish is much more reflective and shinier than what can be done from rust bluing
I have never handled a Chinese contract C96 before. I have however owned several C96 pistols in the past (2x cone hammers, 1x Red 9, 1x 9X25 Export model), all of these were definitely not nitre blued. I have seen several that have been all reblued real shiny with hot dipped bluing. All models, Large rings, Small rings, Red 9 and Bolos. Maybe the Chinese contract models were different.🤷♂
