I love hearing what Stephen King has to say about story development and writing. But, I did not finish watching this video because the background music is way too loud and obtrusive, I could barely hear what Mr. King had to say.
I really enjoyed this one although it feels a little unfair of King to choose Seinfeld as an example of a waste of time - it's an absolute masterclass in screenwriting! The ability of those writers (but particularly Larry David) to craft multi-strand plots which converge at the end of a sub-half hour episode is something that a lot of writers would do well to study.
A friend of mine once told me, "police think that criminals are smart with getting themselfs around things. The police should try meeting a writer" That was after i gave him a small insight in one of the first short storyes i wrote.
Hunger Games was a hit when on television or the movies NOT on books. Am I that wrong? Are those publishers back then that wrong? Were we really ahead of our times if we could not put the running man on the wide screen?
The Hunger Games series has more than 100 million copies in print worldwide and spent 260 consecutive weeks on The Times best-seller list. I'd call that success. I read the books first and then watched the movies. I loved both mediums. I thought the books were a master class on novel structure.
This was put together three years ago, so I will assume that it is clear to everyone in post to watch those little light thingies on the mixing board have purpose other than being an amusing thing to look at as your fry on 'shrooms. It's just like King had figured out--some years ago, judging by his appearance in the video--that he was lecturing us about reading and if we didn't read enough we were going to be unpitiable losers. I've made peace with Stephen King shouting in my ear metaphorically. I've told him I won't judge the lack of an objective editor to tighten down his writing because he is too arrogant to believe he could use one, if he doesn't tell me how to be a writer. That's my arrogance to believe he wouldn't, a few pages into my manuscript, toss it in the fire and not let Tabatha rescue it. Now, agreed, we are left with all of this horrible "mood music" and trying to hear King's words. Suggestions to those that turned this off because the music annoys you: seriously, how serious could you have been about following this. May I suggest? Turn on the closed captions and turn the sound down or off. See? That's technology, tamed.
He talks more about his life and experiences rather than give any useful advice. No disrespect, but this is not helpful at all for someone how wants to start writing.
Always worth listening to a guy who has been there, done that. The music doesn't matter. Personal stories help to get in his head, as much as one can.
The music is irritating and pointless.
Yep. I stopped cuz of the music.
What's with the hard music though his talking? I can hardly hear Steve talking.
The background noise, I suppose you think it's music, is obnoxious, and makes it hard to hear.
Came here to hear what King had to say. Left because of the music. Too loud. WAY too loud.
Agree. And completely nonsensical - it would have been much more effective to let him speak with no music at all.

A 30 page sitcom screenplay is a joke to real writers.
I dig the overpowering ambient music.
"You have to look, you have to see... you can't just walk and let it all go by" - Stephen King
I had to stop watching in the middle because the music is unbearable. You can barely hear him at some points

"themselves". "stories"
This is 2nd time (tonite) I heard about the nail story. infographics was the 1st
The music's too loud.
Do you have any more stuff with Steven king?
I'm writing a book about coffee tables
Forget the music. listen to him. Good ol Mainer.
Mort Rainey, The Secret Window “ , prequel please 🤍
Great speeches and stories do not need music
Am I the only one who can hear him talking over the music?
You are not alone

I actually enjoyed reading Catching Fire.
Whats the intro song name ?????
Make a video about tips from Vince Gilligan, Spike Lee or George RR Martin.
Hi Arthur, thanks for your suggestions! A Spike Lee video has already been made and should be published very soon.
What, you couldn’t make the music any louder?!

Today, where would he send stories as an unknown writer?
Music bleurgh.
Very annoying that there is someone talking all the time behind the music
Hes a good writer choosing bad subjects like crime, death, etc that to this writer is not entertainment.
He talks more about his life and experiences rather than give any useful advice. No disrespect, but this is not helpful at all for someone how wants to start writing.
Holy shit, the background music is so distracting!! Who the hell thought that was a good idea?
I want to LIKE the video for King's knowledge but I don't want to help or encourage this RUclipsr. The MUSIC IS TOO D@MN LOUD!
Like so many others have said, the music is oh so irritating! Get it off the video
