What's New in Vintage Story 1.19 Update Overview

- What's new in Vintage Story 1.19? This update seems to be smaller compared to the new content in 1.18, however, it does some epic redesigns of the existing features and also adds a bunch of exciting stuff including:
0:00 - Intro
0:21 - Immersive animations
0:53 - Better ruins
1:19 - New animals
1:36 - Catching animals
1:59 - Traps
2:16 - Block physics
2:38 - Prospecting ores
3:00 - Mini map update
3:19 - Decorations
3:42 - Char selection
3:53 - For modders
As always, this is just a quick Vintage Story 1.19 preview and there can be more things that I've missed. If I did, please share in the comments ;)

My only complaint about 1.19 is having to figure out which of my mods I need to update and which can just be forgotten about now. It feels like the devs are watching the modding scene closely and implementing the best ideas into vanilla.

I'm very happy about more animals and you can never have enough of those make the world feel lived in with.
I'm a bit sad reworked ruins do not generate in a some sort of pattern (being remnants of multiple buildings (village, small town, outpost, etc.)), but the dejunk touch they've got is still awesome. Probably, infinitely more meaningful than whatever I imagined a rework should be :)
Yeah, true! I want the actual villages so bad, that would be kinda cool. We do have some undeground settlements though that seem to be larger that the remnants on the surface and it's actually lore friendly because a bunch of folks used to live under the ground in some tunnels or something. But I agree that towns would be a killer feature
Agreed. It's kind of a tough spot to think through, since I believe the VS dev team wouldn't want to make it as just a feature, they'd probably either over invest their time and effort to make it stand out (both visually and lore wise), or hold on implementing anything of that scale.
Personally, I would've loved to see at least a barebones "skeleton" of a surface level multiple structures generation.

@@the_origamepersonally i LOVE remaking a surface buildings i find when they are something thats validly doable. imma deffintly got to wait till some of my prefered mods are updated to 1.19 because mods like the quarry mod are exstreamly useful, and all i need to remember is how much metal i need to set up to make the rocksplitting tools :P and i need to return to my game to start work on my redwood home as i found a lucky clearing and know just were enough goods are, i just need to do some clayworking and fire it... oh and get a farm going asap i gave my self 5 days before the drifers found their way out of the otherside and have to build everything
I recently switched from Minecraft to Vintage Story and so far I'm loving it this is just the kind of survival I've been trying to copy in Minecraft for years lol It feels like playing Minecraft for the first time again most of the stuffs I don't even know how to make or gather especially bees I made Tin bronze way before I could find bees lmao but so far its been so much fun I'm on a 30hrs world rn and has full bronze lamellar armor and feeling more and more confident to explore the map(just kidding its winter and I only have 57 spelt grains left😂)

The current version that we have is a preview, so there's still more to come!
if the Vintage story devs keep it up and later bring the game to steam too (few years) this game easily could solve and out do the many many problems minecraft had. mainly the lack of focus and flexibility. minecraft feel like it's game in a forever early access phase.

Too bad they delete some hair colors, including my favourite light pink/heliotrope gray 😭 Guess it's back to boring brown... At least until there's mod for that
Nice work! Really a great game. Homo Sapiens mode is my fav. :-) Hope we see some adjustment to make bullrushes still spawning on cold world plays.
I have 100 hrs in this game here are my thoughts.
Every system in this game feels unbelievable complex and well thought out, which I love, however as someone who loves building I have a few complaints.
• cornered stairs don’t automatically connect
• I love the idea of vertical slabs but I think it would be better if they were crafted instead of the direction being decided as you place them. They are super annoying to build with
• where are the colored blocks? Every build feels super grim and I’d like if I could add a pop of color to them.
• more early game materials
• chisel tweaks allowing full control of where you are chiseling. As it is now if you choose anything other than the single bit option you have to break in specific sections, which is very tedious
Additional complaints
• animal ai and pathfinding is terrible
• not nearly enough monsters on the surface
• the night is SO dark
The fact that I have the exact video where that "Ohhhhh Myyyy" sound comes from...
Hmmm. Not sure about sepia tone map. I have a hard enough time finding the rock types i want as is.
And the bow feels wrong in the left side.
Yep, same for me with the map, it was so much easier to find bauxite or alike
It's because it IS wrong. The character is right handed, they'd hold the bow in their left hand and draw with their right.

We want HORSES
An Ox type animal or other carriage animal would be cool and useful. Maybe even have an Ox towed plow for large scale farming
I like the customisability of gameplay in Vintage Story. I'm a casual player and default world settings are hard for me.

You, obviously, have not played modded Minecraft.
And vintage story doesn't need mods lol. Anyways a lot of features in it can't be replicated even in minecraft mods due to engine limitations, once vintage story is finished and released in steam modding scene will see a boom and then mc will not be able to compare@@fictitiousnightmares
the new tree chopping animation could be better, they could've make the chopping animation sync with the breaking animation but overall it's 8/10 very well done
Wy would you disable the terrain? Simple, to see your waypoints clearly. Once you find them, you turn terrain back ON. It was a wonderful addition.

After they removed the ability of obtaining hot water in 1.18.8. I was hoping for spike traps in a game focused on realism. Unrealistic game design choices aside i like how the game is coming along i just wished the devs added quality of life mechanics.

My wish is to find not a village, but a town, or a fort. with a market with smiths, tailors, bakeries, fishmongers, everything at your fingertips! if you have the gears to pay for it.. if not, there's always another option.. if you can avoid the town guard
and ofcourse to avoid griefing, breaking blocks in the town is a felony in the eyes of the guards so no stealing or destruction of property
ok now I'm rambling but take it a step further to balance out living near a town by having the king own the region around it and setting up home in his land will have you pay taxes in gears/grain every 6 months through a tax collector knocking at your door. If you can't pay the money after fair warnings then you will become the enemy of the crown and he will re-visit you with guards to take back the crowns belongings by force, and guards on patrol will attack you on sight. now you have a vendetta to kill the king.

How do you do an update video when update isn't done? I mean how many stuff have they added to the update since this came out and its still not done yet.

It's very early, because there are more things being added before the full release like new wall decorations, new animals (goats) and more.
I have a world from 1.18 , is there a way to play that world on 1.19 ? While updating terrain generation
I guess it's possible, the new terrain will be in unloaded chuncks. Basically, the territory you didn't open on your map is going to have 1.19 elements

In my opinion 1.19 is little bit disappointing compared with 1.18 archive. What I would appreciate is more trophies "artefacts", dungeons, lore based stuff and some bosse / mobs.

My issue with this game other than some other obvious ones (I have many other issues, but beside the point of this conversation) is the stupid wolves and bears. They do not act anywhere near how they would in real life. I just make them passive at this point as, the wolves are just overpopulated and the bears are completely psychotic and just run around attacking everything and every animal in range constantly. This is NOT what these animals do in real life and it is ridiculous as well as quite an annoyance for no reason except to be a problem for you. I could run across 50-100 bears or wolves in real life and none of them would attack me.
