    I cut a sheet of faux leather the size I need for what I'm making and then place the vinyl on the faux leather first and then cut out my earring shape. It gives it a much cleaner edge.

      I was going to ask if you could add a tiny offset to make it a tad bigger to accommodate shrinkage. By the time you add all three layers it would have shrank even more anyways. Trim if still required.

      @@lseh if you're using an svg you can make it whatever size you like. Also if you first make the vinyl and leather sheet, heatpress and then cut out your shape, you won't have any shrinkage.

      I do the same. I am not nearly as good as Amy at keeping the vinyl in the same spot and it ends up slipping on me. After a couple tries I starting putting the vinyl on the leather first and then cutting them both into whatever shape I need.

    Using your video, I now put HTV on back of my faux leather, and it made a huge difference 🥰I was gluing pieces together before that video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

    I do something similar to expand your fabric options when making purses/bags. Use any fabric (even cotton) and spray glue on top of marine vinyl. Let it completely dry. Expands your fabric selections but still gives you the structure needed to make purses/bags.

    Could you apply the HTV then cut out the shapes?

    • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  2 года назад +2

      Hi, great questions! Yes, you can! The process would be similar to how I put heat transfer vinyl on the back of faux leather and then cut the shapes out. You can see me demonstrate that technique in this video here: ruclips.net/video/Q1IK6EfA6c8/видео.html

      Hi, Sharon! Thanks for your comment! I do recommend buying hypoallergenic or stainless steel earring hooks, especially if you are gifting or selling your earrings. :)

    Amy, could you add the htv on the white before the shapes are cut like you would do on the back of the earring?

    • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  Год назад +1

      Hi, Kathy! Great question! You could, but you won't have really nice smooth edges like you would if you cut the vinyl by itself. :) I hope that makes sense!

    Adorable. How long do you press each color vinyl layer in order not to damage the vinyl? It seems the faux leather doesn't take much time with the polyester backing.Thanks, Amy.

    • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  2 года назад +1

      Hi, Mardell! I press each layer for about 5-10 seconds, just long enough for it to stick, similar to how layering HTV on t-shirts works. Then I cover and press all the layers together for a few more seconds at the end. :)

      @@AmyRomeu Thank you Amy. Do you also have a trick to avoid the mark a tranfer sheet can make on the finished faux leather earring?

    • @AmyRomeu
      @AmyRomeu  2 года назад +1

      @@mardellgrayhek9958 Hi, Mardell! Yes! The trick is to leave as much transfer sheet around the vinyl shape as possible. Ideally, the edges of the transfer sheet should extend beyond the border of the faux leather shape. That way the edges aren’t pressed on top of the faux leather.
      Sometimes you may need to drag your shapes apart in the mat preview screen in Design Space so the cut with this large border area around each one. :)

    Actually you could put the vinyl on the back on the earrings and then you wouldn't have to add a back. 😉

      Yes, absolutely. :) I have a whole video on four different ways to add a back to faux leather earrings: ruclips.net/video/Q1IK6EfA6c8/видео.html
