FYI, the AP003's sibling, the AP007, has a CADR of 260 and has sold for as low as $80 a few weeks ago on Amazon (currently: $105; retail: $170). EDIT: Correction... lowest price was $63 in Apr.
That's interesting and seems like a great deal for that CADR for $80. Would also need to be aware that there are no OEM filter but like the Ap003, there will likely be other brands sold with this model - would just need to dig and find out the product code and then you will be able to find lots of filters.
Interesting, I did think it strange that it didn't come with one as its probably the cheapest part of the unit so makes no sense why they would remove. Let me know if your device does come with one as it might be just a dud with the one they sent to me.
@@HouseFresh So it arrived today and it does NOT come with a prefilter. Do you know where I can buy one? I've searched everywhere and could not find one for sale. If not, I'm probably going to return it.
I bought the taotronics back in 2022 for $75cad, without watching a single review video. It was my first air purifier purchase and I just did my standard research via user reviews and ratings. I got quite lucky in how great the unit turned out to be. Fast forward 2yrs, and due to severe allergies, I'm now in need of a 2nd unit for my bedroom. I was originally thinking of going with one of the smaller units until I stumbled upon your channel and started watching some reviews. I then decided I would try purchasing a 2nd taotronics until. Impossible. I can't find that thing anywhere. I considered the winix 5500-02 unit, but it's $300cad, and that's far out of my budget. The 100s and 200s are also north of $200cad, which I wasn't really feeling either. I decided I would do a search for all of those alternative taotronics units, manufactured by other brands. Most weren't available in my country, but I think I may have just got lucky. I found a retailer offering one of them on sale for $99cad. I pulled the trigger and hope it comes without issues. If it does, I owe a huge thanks to your videos for all the help. I will post back soon!
Would be interesting to see how the sound test results change after constant use. The Lago version I bought was ok for the first week or so but now has such bad fan rattle & squeak I had to move it from the bedroom to the living room and then to the kitchen. It's been about 3 months and the fan bearing is steadily getting louder. We hear it squeak and rattle on speed 2 from multiple rooms away now. About to take it apart and see if I can do do anything about the fan bearing and if not I'll probably have to get rid of it.
That's annoying, I will run some long term tests and see if we also see similar issues with the Lago model. Thanks for letting me know, when the bearing goes, the sound is super annoying.
Great video as far as I'm concerned spend just a little more and get the Winx 5500 I have four of them and no longer have to use an asthma inhaler Symbicort it has really saved my life
That's a fair point and something I also recommend if you have the funds. Glad the Winix 5500-2 is working for you, my review is here if you want to see: ruclips.net/video/2REsGL_5TEU/видео.html&pp=ygUMV2luaXggNTUwMC0y

I don't know about Taotronics, but some value brands that I've read having good longevity include Holmes and GermGuardian. I've been using a Hunter unit (discontinued) for over a decade now. That said, lots of companies have been cutting corners to remain in business, so YMMV. Hopefully Danny has a better answer for you. Godspeed.
Sorry to hear about your costco experience, I have heard they are really good with returns so sad to hear you didn't have a good experience. Of the 80+ devices I have bought, only one has failed which was a Honeywell device and I also managed to blow up an Alen 75i (my fault not Alens) I have heard of issues with newer brands as the design as had less time in the market but generally the main brands seems to be work well over the long term - Coway, Winix, IQAir, Levoit..etc More premium brands have larger warranties - IQAir has 10 years but they also come at a higher cost both in buying and running so likely cost a lot more compared to a more budget brand. Just from my experience I have had 3 Alen air purifiers including a very old device and they have been running continuously for 5+ years with no issues and they can be found with lifetime warranties when you get the filters - but will cost more per CADR than other brands.
@@HecsBox Thanks and glad to hear about Holmes, GermGuardian and Hunter (A brand I haven't though about it ages but recall they made some good devices back in the day.) I am seeing a lot more companies outsource manufacturing to a separate company like the Midea example in this video which means they become less connected to the making of the product and focus more on marketing. A sad state of affairs.
Really high quality youtube content, thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoy it!

I've found the Lorell HEPA 420 branding at affordable prices -- identical in form and buttons and such if a greyer color, to my taotronics on.
Yeah seems to be another brand re-selling the model - need to add to my collection :) Glad your device is working for you.
Great Vid. Thanks
Hey, thanks to you for watching it and comment 🫶
I just purchased the Midea one in the UK. The pictures show it comes with a pre filter. I'll update when it arrives on Thrusday.

Anyone know how reliable these units are? After being burned on the Costco Winix, it kind of adds to the running cost when machines don’t last long.

Non of these are available anymore 😢is the AP007 worth grabbing or do you recommend something else that’s budget friendly.
So annoying - we recently update this with some more options: housefresh.com/budget-air-purifiers/
Hope its helpful.
In the US, it’s still available under the name Lorell 420 (LLR00204). Can find online as low as $40.
Thats great to hear, do you know its on Amazon.com? Would love to include if for people who visit this video.
There's another brand on Amazon US called the 'Mooka' which also looks similar. ..
Interesting, it does show similarities but does seem to be a little different to these just based on initial look.
Is it possible to buy an after market pre filter for the midea?
Yes you just need to search for the model number and there are a lot of options.
@@HouseFresh What should I search for? I couldn't find a replacement pre filter.
@@abc123zxc5sorry couldn’t find anything either. That’s annoying sorry it didn’t also include it.
