I had never heard of a lilac bonsai until I saw Dave (Daves bonsai working on one, and I am glad to say that I do now have one that I have acquired from my mum. She liked it, but she understands my greater need for it 🤣
That open trunk almost like a leprechaun entrance if you think about it. That would have been good for St. Patrick's Day with a little statue of a leprechaun in it. Might be a nice little video for next year. You really have some nice cool trees and trunks out in your area.
you ought to cut back that maple hard now and just develop it in ground. very sweet oaks, we have a bunch like it and one is entirely hollow so that the dogs run under it while playing. good luck on the lilac!
I see you are attempting the goth look with that gift from Tom. 😂 I was just out with our pig today and she has this wall/arch of white flower lilac shrubs. When I saw the little flowers I was like do I need this. Well after watching your video yes, yes I do need to air layer myself a new tree! Great advice as always. Thank you for sharing Candice!
Great video candice and it is amazing that I am just finishing something very similiar in approach. I have a lilac at the bottom of my garden which Zita kept suggesting I should air layer from. I think I may just have a look and see :)
Being spring, can you just take a cutting and root it or a sucker growing from the root system? Just a thought. Air layering for a thicker trunk is also cool.
I have a hard enough time keeping a lilac alive in a pot. Lol Is it possible for you to air layer a single branch in two places? Like the second one being where you plan to cut back. That natural raft was awesome with those thick ariel roots! You've got an awesome piece of nature there! Thanx for sharing!
I think so if there’s enough space between the layer sites- it will increase the chance also if there’s branches above and below both areas the layer cuts are done to pull the energy
So envious of anyone living amongst that much nature. You get to see everything that the seasons have to offer.
Including the 6 months of painful cold and snow

Lol well let’s see it Tony! Show me your Lilac!

OmG that will be so cool! 🤣
That is one cool natural raft. Great video as always.
Thanks Thomas!
She blinded me with science!
Glad the Gunmetal arrived. The Mangrove trees should be arriving today for you to try out.
Arrived and taped for an upcoming vid
Tom, you seem to have an endless supply of gunmetal lipstick! Hahaha
Air layering a dead branch would be the ultimate test in bonsai patience. 🤣🤣🌱🌱
Bahahaha for sure unless one identifies as a necromancer Dave

But I’ll be tearing the barn down so it’s going to go either way 🫤

Definitely not my color Matt 🤣
Yes yes you need a lilac
@@Candice.BonsaiScience well, atleast you tried something new.
A very difficult tree to collect!!!
Some cement drillers and heavy excavators would be needed for sure 🤣
I work in historic preservation for museums and such. You need to do a vid on your barn!!
Very interesting video, enjoyed it very much. Peace ......
I’ll put one up for you tomorrow in a shorts if you want.
@@Candice.BonsaiScience That would be very cool!!!

Yes! But do you have room with your 792 maples on the benches?!?!
@@Candice.BonsaiScience very wise. Let the branch stay as is😉

Crazy tree at the end. I’m small enough to make that my home 😂😂
How much land do you have Candice, looks like a lot of land
20 acres of mixed wood/grassland/and a spring and then the planted pines are 20 ish in the forestry pine program
@@Candice.BonsaiScience nice nice nice
