I have a feeling your kids are going to have an unrealistic expectation of the sturdiness of wooden structures. Might be a rude awakening when they have to deal with ikea shelves in a dorm haha ;)
i built something similar two years ago during lockdown, and my aim was to make a piece of exercise equipement to do dips, leg raises, inverted rows and such; now that the enthusiasm for fitness has been laid to rest, i still use it to lay clothes on,so it really is multifunctional.
some years ago i was browsing in the tools/fitness department of sears and i saw a family eyeing a treadmill. i sauntered over to them and said "i see you're in the market for a new coat rack". it took a few seconds to sink in before they all laughed.
@@albertpolak786 sure! But matthias evidently seems like the kind of person to always be critical of his work and seek out improvements for "next time."
Those turned out really neat. I have got to get off my backside and make one of those fancy box jointing jigs. At this point I know it would save me time. The problem is, the only time I am thinking about it is when I am in the middle of making box joints and then I would have to stop everything I am doing to make one.🤔
On the plus side if she ' gets wrapped up in it then at least she will be protected ' ! OK OK OK I'll go find the door as my Dad joke may have been a bit lame :-)
Very nice - I like things that have multiple uses. My doughter would have needed that some time ago. Latetly she asked me if I could build her a little gym with rings, mattrasses and Bars. Unfortunately the ceiling in her room is not high enough.
You should get one of the flexible PVC couplings used for plumbing to keep that dust hose from falling off. That way you can use duct clamps on both ends.
Whenever I get a slight mismatch on a hose, I put a thin bead of epoxy around the inner fitting, about 7mm from the end, {let dry} it gives the clamp something to grab. In a pinch putting a wire on it and adding a little sticky {temp, like hot glue} will also work, just not for long, lol
The chairs were available and convenient. When I was doing that, it was always because things were there and I could. if I had to go somewhere else to do something (and possible get dad to disassemble/assemble the structure for me), I probably wouldn't have, and would've just gone with the chair arms.
That's not safe. The only thing keeping her from falling down and potentially getting hit on the head with with the rungs of one or both chairs if the friction between the chair and the floor - if one of the chairs move even slightly, it loses grip with the floor, sliding away and then her hands still on the arms will pull both inwards.
Did you add a fastener to insure the link bars stay put or will you just rely on the friction of the pins? Either way it's another well done and versatile project. Thanks for letting us watch.
When Matthias dryfits the components, i'm like: That's way too loose And when he puts glue on, and the whole thing swells, so he needs a clamp just to be able to close the joint: Hoooly shoot that's gonna hold for sure
At 2:23 you can see the screw with the big black knob turning on it's own. Maybe a piece of rough grid sandpaper between the wood ant the washer or the knob could help?
always interesting to see dual-use items of furniture! It doesnt standout and serves both purposes equally. Kid can gave a climbing frame, tea-party, study table, lots of fun! 😀
If you want something like this that's easier to build Paul Sellers has some trestles almost anyone could build even as their first project. These are more elegant but also harder to build even with these detailed video instructions. Love the channel by the way!
I want to make this for my uhh "kids" but i don't have any special equipment. Is it possible to do these or other strong joints with just a hacksaw and a cordless drill?
I like shop-vacs... i have one hooked up to my bandsaw, one hooked up to my sander and a big one hooked up to my table saw. it's not ideal but it works
Is it safe to assume that you round out the tenons rather than just make the mortises long enough to accept the corners because that makes for a weaker joint with less precision? If so, it might be a cool experiment to see how drastically doing so would affect the joint.
with the tenon the wull width of the piece, making the slots longer would leave visible gaps. Yes, I could make the tenons narrower, but that *would definitely* make a weaker joint.
Haha, yes - my 5-year-old gymnast does that same parallel-bars-style pushup to any two objects that are close to each other and of similar height, even if it's ill-advised. I'm excited to watch this video for ideas. :) Edit: I'm back and not disappointed.
Tablehorses or not .... most important here seems to be the "Harriet's multifunctionator"-character these things have. The kids might even find two or more other, additional functions unintentionally built in, too.

Lol I love how EVERY single piece of exercise equipment inevitably ends up having clothes hang on them 😂👍
just go back to fitness, cloths can wait 😁

@@JonnyDIY Get a rowing machine. It sucks for hanging clothes.
I like watching project videos, especially ones commissioned by highly important people!
I love the kid oriented projects. I know as they get older, the projects on this channel will get more extreme. :)
At one point he'll need to build their own house. A normal one, instead of shed-sized.
@@NamelessMoreOne nah won’t be a “normal” one it will be way better and more interesting and hopefully done in weekly instalments on here……
and now we build rocket launcher from some 2x4 🤣😂😂
Wooden car let's go! Old washing machine motor somehow and painted green. Works perfectly as well of course hehe
The final touch on the tenons with the chip carving knife makes me wish for a 6-year update on the homemade chip carving knife.
Well it seems to still work just fine - if it ain't broke and so on, right?

There isn't much to say about it.
Well, update complete. Hope you enjoyed

I built one. It's worth the trouble. Box joints have never been so easy or consistent.
i wish my brain was capable of more than poopoo joke.
my daughter has been playing with bubble wrap for a week now.
That made me laugh a little harder than it should have!

That double take when you see general sam commenting on a wood working video.
Brilliant and funny as usual Matthias, you're like a breath of fresh air :)
hello, how easy it is for you, it's nice to watch your video👋👍🌍
Hose won't stay attached? This looks like a job for duct tape

but your attic should be tall enough?
@@matthiaswandel Not in her part of the house... and she wants to do somersaults.
I wonder where she learned swinging off furniture....:D
From my experience that seems to be an innate thing with kids. Probably a vestigial instinct from our primate ancestors.
It still boggles my mind how good of a channel this is.
Been a fan for years and have learned so much, without any frills
Matthias absolutely loves to jump up onto things he builds and sit on them at the end of videos. And I love to see it.
He does it for us and I'm here for it.
They are called parallettes, usually with rounded bars. Used all the time in gymnastics and calisthenics.
I'm starting to think you're slowly getting into building your own CNC territory 😆
didnt he do that with lego once ?
I actually did something similar a couple years ago when I needed to do dips, the krenovian sawhorses are excellent multipurpose devices
Haha awesome, ending made me laugh! Just wait til she watches the Olympics. She'll want you to build an ice rink in the backyard 😁💕👍
Guess after all these years we have enough jump sit testing shots to edit a compilation 🤣

In your application of the dynamic load to the table top, how did you keep the table top from slipping on the “parallel bars”? Magic?
Good content 😀
I like your moccasins - I bought mine as souvenirs for myself during my visit to BC., Vancouver area in the '80's.

Good video but I can't help thinking about the noise from all those machines - I bet you're popular with the neighbours..! 🙂
*Making of* ( _Emilie-Livingston-successor_ ) *Harriet Wandel* in her early days 😁👍 go for it Dad!

Sawhorse, table legs, gym equipement- No I think you built a seat if you look at the last part of the video

Another variation on that is a "gymnast stretch ladder"

All of the above should always be an answer on the quiz.
Dewalt has a connector for an airlock vacuum cleaner. Take a look it might be useful
Enjoyed watching this project all come together, thanks for taking the time to share it with us.
Play safe from Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada.
Not sure of an answer to what you've built other than to call it Frankenfurniture.
But the kitchen chairs had nice large flat surfaces and these have narrow edges. Doesn't that hurt her hands?
dance studio bar thing? what you've made is a great point how to be a great parent :)
"Ambiguous Wood Legs"
I think the feet could maybe use some corner brace type thing.
Tie that string on the dust collector hose to the panto-router handle so the hose and router maintain their juxtaposition.
The answer to the question appears to be: "...Yes."
With the price of 2x4s thats gotta be a couple hundred 😪
Its all in one :) plus a plasterers muck table ;P
nice to give your kid such a versatile thing ;)
6:04 to 6:12 sounds like “One” by Metallica lol.
A small capture screw/ knb would hold the vac in place, or some good old gaffer tape !..
or a stick stuck in the side of the table, like I ended up doing.
You really should have thought of that before You started !!! ;)
Are u german?
Did you? Yes, you did! Thanks for the video Jon
