Blueberry boxes storage rack

- We have a lot of these identical cardboard boxes from buying blueberries over the years. They are very handy for storing stuff in, so I made a rack to hold 24 of those.

Checking for “square” is the least followed up / actioned check on RUclips video commentary. Everything is nearly always absolutely square. Thank you for demonstrating how to fix “out of square”. Hypotenuse clamps. Genius.
Recycling is good and all but re-use, even of cardboard boxes, is just magnificent.
I just love taking something meant for one-time packaging and using it for years to store/organize stuff in.
We always had mustard from the jar. The jar was simply covered with a tin lid. The whole family drank from these glasses later because they were really nice drinking glasses. Someone recently thought to himself: "Just a lid, that's stupid, let's put a thread on it. Well, now the empty glasses are thrown away instead of being reused. What a pity
It's so satisfying when a company packages things in a way that is reuse friendly. It's like metal coffee cans...they are almost non-existent now. I'll specifically buy a brand just for it's container!
@@uranoxyd I would switch mustard brand!
People always forget recycling is the last one in Reduce Reuse Recycle for a erason.
@@uranoxyd there's an expensive jam brand that I quite like (can't remember the name off the top of my head - from Whole Foods a while back) that still does that. Glasses are a bit small for water IMO but are excellent whisky tumblers! Have at least 4 in my cabinet.
For a second I thought you needed all that storage for blueberries....
Same thing! My thought was, there's NO WAY they can eat that many blueberries before they go bad. Then my logic kicked in. 😂
Don’t let Matthias lie to you. He’s eating THAT many blueberries! :D
Plot twist; Mattias is a bear
He's making blueberry vodka or schnapps 😉
@@zacprunty He needed a distraction from his Blackberry habit.
I love how your one of the best woodworkers around, still screw up, and show the parts where you screw up and how you fix it.
Nailing the frame down to the workbench is my kind of woodworking 👍
Very happy to see the channel is back!
glad to see you got your channel back, and that none of your videos were deleted.
I'm glad to see your main channel is back under your control.
Sitting here watching this man build stuff so he can store stuff to build more stuff out of tools he built himself. You're one of a kind, Matthias 🙂
I thought he'd never do the jump test on that match wood construction. But he did. I am impressed again. Well done Matthias 👍
Wait I was looking for a cryptoscam, what the hell is this woodgears channel?
Nice to see your channel back!
God, am I happy to have the channel back🎉
Glad you got your channel back I hope you didnt lose too many subscribers.
I've been watching your channel for over a decade now, and your videos have never dipped in quality. It was fun watching you try to make something "quick and dirty" complete with the obligatory jump sit. Thanks for all the entertainment and education.
Happy to see you back again, Matthias.
Love the use of the loose tenons to keep the racks in place and to add rigidity. Brilliant stuff!
Good to see you have your channel back Matthias.
Love seeing Tuddenham Farms represented! We go through a box per week of their berries too!
we get over a month out of a box
Glad you got the channel back!!! Scammers suck!
Glad to see the channel back Matthias, finally youtube doing something good for a change.
I can’t believe how many ways there are to build storage and work wood. Fascinating content.
Always happy when you show your mistakes because it makes us mere mortals feel better ;-) And as my father-in-law always said when doing a project..."Slow is Fast".
Looks like they didn't actually delete any videos of yours (hopefully). What a crazy day, though.
Even if they did, "deleted" videos still exist on Alphabet servers.
It is just mesmerizing to see you work Matthias. It is amazing the details you go through for a so called " Simple Project" !!!! As a fellow engineer that considers myself hands on,then i Just have to bow to you and salute you. Thanks.
Glad to see you back
I was initially confused why you intended to spend the material to close of the 'back'-side of the rack instead of making the boxes accessible from either side, but was satisfied by how well efficiently the "extra-shitty used-plywood --" [with no other(?)] "-- for uses like this" filled the space.
I'd initially imagined that off-camera you had the blueberry-boxes stacked like the arrays of banker-boxes I'm used to sliding in/out from under benches or overhead shelves to access deeper ranks while searching for tools/materials "helpfully re-"-organized by people [with different "priorities" that do not include being able to use any of it...] -- But seeing that you intend this to be easily and readily accessible, has made me rethink my plans towards {inhibiting building walls of boxes}, instead of {making navigating them easier}.
I'm glad the thieves were opportunistic and lazy and just hid all the videos and and not malicious and deleting the videos. I've seen it happen both ways with these youtube account thefts and the times where videos get deleted get messy.
I suspect that its way more time consuming to delete the videos than just mark them all private in mass. These hackers know they have limited time to take over and post their scam before youtube comes in and restores the channel.
@@peterjensen6844 oh yeah 100%.
What happens in those cases?
@@cbalan777 youtube can't restore deleted videos so they were lost.
Welcome back!
Looks like your content is coming back and youtube is sorting the hack out :)
I always learn something or get a good tip or suggestion for my own projects from your videos, and this one is no exception! I was going to do this very type of system to put a bank of tool and small parts drawers in my old workbench, to sit on its open shelf underneath. I thought about the side guides to keep the back corner of the drawer from going in between the frame stiles, but was thinking about pocket screws to fasten them to the stiles. Your brad nailing and gluing them between the runners is genius, since the runners are already attached to the stiles, that's sufficient for holding all 3 pieces, the 2 runners and the guide. Thanks as always for your practicality, and your upcycling of used and construction-grade wood. With lumber prices still higher than I'd like, I hate sinking more than I need to, into a humble shop project. Good stuff, Matthias!
I used to live in Pennfield and had a wild blueberry field behind my place. was nice to pick fresh blueberries especially when I was young and poor. The blueberry box from St. Stephens brought back some nice memories.
Hey, the channel is back!
you're back!
Thanks for sharing the frustration during the initial assembly. Its nice to know someone as clever as you makes mistakes!
I love that your version of "quick and dirty" is still better than anything I could ever do
Channel recovered???? Bravo
I love seeing how a master can work with construction lumber to make an amazing and functional piece. Nice job!
Wild blueberries are awesome! Blueberry wine is really good! That's a great use of the boxes. I've done similar re-use of boxes for less waste, plus the sizes were practical.
It's good to hear you got your channel back Mattias.
I don't know what's more impressive: the rack or the fact that you consumed about 60 kg of blueberries.
Your voice over (as always) is excellent!! I really enjoy your videos and thought process
You have better lumber than we do. Ours is crappy SYP with huge growth rings. You can buy large boxes of fresh blueberries. On the other hand we have Jalapeños in Texas. Cheers, and thanks for the content!
thankgod you got your channel back
He’s back!
It's insane seeing a box of blueberries like that, here in the Netherlands they're so expensive that you'd probably a couple hundred bucks for a box that size!
6,- for 500gr at Lidl. The boxes showed 2,27kg.
So around € 27,-
@@jordyb8487 your math isn't right, 1kg isn't 100 grams but 1000
They grow wild here😀 in NB canada ,much of lower eastern Canada in fact. You can buy them from roadside stands for about C$ 12.00 /Kg
They are farmed commercially of course but still "wild"
We have Maple syrup to!
So what. Tulips cost almost nothing in the Netherlands, but cost a fortune here in the US and Canada.
@@daylen577 he mistyped, it's €6 for 500grams
I went through a period of making wall-sized shelving units similar to this. Extremely lightweight and inexpensive and once I had made a full-sized plywood jig for laying out parts, ridiculously fast to make. Held together almost exclusively with glue; the finishing nails were just there to hold things together while the glue set up.
Nailed to the workbench....God bless you for admitting your mistakes to the masses
For a minute, I thought those boxes were all full of blueberries. I thought you had lost your marbles. 🤣
I'm so impressed by your abilities to eat huge quantities of blueberries.
Omg i was so worried. Send you a big hug fron Argentina.
I also love how doing things fast tends to slow things down. It is good to see you are as human as the rest of us.
There’s a US Army saying “slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.” Take the time you need to do it smoothly and it will be faster than correcting mistakes.
I need to make one of these to store all the crypto I just bought!
I Scanned the QR code and all I got was blueberries!
I need to make one for the dozens of carboard screw and nail boxes I've hoarded over the years. Currently they're stacked in a Jenga tower of death.
For a second I thought you kept so many blueberries around that you made a unique storage rack just to hold all the berries.
😂 me too! I was like my god he buys in bulk! 😆
"Glass to break" - favorite label
Sure jealous of availability of Blueberries in Canada!
What about the Festool Domino, Sander, Dust Collector, Router and Chop Saw - where are they in your videos? Oh wait a minute…. that’s WHY I love your videos no Festool or other expensive “must haves”! Keep it up!
nice you got your channel back
The sped up hammering of the nails on the back board was oddly satisfying.
Matthias I have something similar with cherry boxes; they hold 5kg and I get some from the local greengrocer but we also get through huge quantities of them as they are in season now here is Aus.
The secon life of about 65 kg of blueberries ... nice project an with these cardboard boxes it has a nice charme too
Matthias, nice to see that you use the same sudden realisation phrase that I do. 😂
3:30 I was looking away from the screen when you made the comment about the nail gun jamming and that stain on the wood gave me a little scare 😅
This is also a good example of why going fast doesn't always end up being faster heh.
Need to make another one for future boxes....unless ur starting to get tired of blueberries!
this doesn't actaully hold all of them. Some boxes have other places to be.
Been using a 7-1/4 "/184mm blade for years.
When I was working l used to b able to get boxes that bearing manufacturers used to ship their product. Very sturdy cardboard boxes. Bearings are heavy after all. Bearings from the one used for automotive water pumps to ball or roller bearings for industrial machinery. NSK had the best boxes.
Blueberries in the morning 😋😋
You build tank furniture!
Ikea dreams to be like you.
would love to see a bird cage built with your style would be a very interesting video to watch, thank you for the video as always 🥰
Just think: in a couple of years you can remove the top and make additional shelves for the boxes! 😊
Loved you admit your mistakes... the nailing your project to your workbench had me laughing as I have "been there, done that". Thanks for the laugh.
You misspelled tuddenham, so I’m glad they aren’t sponsored!
Seriously though, love your videos
Smoothing the edge doesn’t take long and improves the pieces
2nd type of berry to feature in Matthias channel in a year.
A wise main once told me, "We do nice, because we do it twice!" 😁
Looks like a Speed run! Must have been a school night😂
That is a huge amount of blueberries!
8:15 Funny how you perfectly predicted what I was going to ask
And just yesterday, the berries company changed their box size. ;)
I first read Blackberry boxes and wondered if you had so many old phones left from your previous job there...
I'm glad it's not just me 😅
You got it back! 🎉
Now I know what to do with all those dozen donut boxes that have been piling up around here!
Here we get ice cream in 1.2 liter plastic tubs. Great for storage and and an even greater excuse to eat more ice cream...
Good one.
A unique workshop.
Saw the thumbnail and title, i legit thought god damn they eat a crap ton of blueberries...until the video showed that it was all empty boxes he saved...lol
Thanks for giving me a good laugh this morning. I've been there before with nailing something down to my workbench.
U had me at E.S.U. plywood. Quick tip for quick retrieval of random bits & bobs: hot glue an example of each to face of the box for fast visual i.d. of what's inside
Those blueberries are not far from were I live haha. I pick them up in the fields so yummy
I wish I had a workshop like yours. What a creative project and great use of materials
It's a fire and trip hazard take note of how not to keep your workshop.
I didn't think you were gonna do the jump test, but then you did
matthias with all the organising youve been doing you should do a workshop tour at some point ;)
Your Canadian vocabulary is remarkably similar to my American vocabulary when things are not going quite right in the shop.
Did you pre-design this one in cad /on paper or sort of wing it?
I could see this being useful for me in the garage with a different style box
I actually did draw it up in cad
Nice , I have a bunch of saltwater taffy boxes that I didn’t know what to do with.
What construction adhesive do you use?
Yoghurt containers, blueberry boxes, ... nice. Milk crates next?
He already made milk crates.
omg those blueberries look delicious
It's nice to see Matthias make a bunch of silly mistakes. Because that's what *all* my projects look like.
If you had more practace doing things halfass you could save more time doing it.
Just wondering if those blueberry boxes will set slightly damp & soggy over time.
