Building a 1985 Mongoose Californian to race!

- In this video we find an old bike so that Zeke can race at this weekends Old School Challenge at Capital City BMX (Feb 12, 2023). I have an old 1985 Mongoose that I have been thinking about fixing up. We grab the frame and fork find some parts and get to work. I decide to go with a red, white and blue Punky Brewster inspired theme. I hope you enjoy!

The handlebars are not CW , CW had one large knurling area not 2 and has a cross hatch pattern so it'll save you the trouble of removing your bars from the phase 1.. I just finished an '85 freestyle bike 4 days ago with Lee chi freestyle brakes on it, they turned out to be the best working center pull brakes of all the brakes in my 80's BMX collection and all my other bikes have 80's Dia compe, just a heads up. Great idea with the tires and color scheme now I must finish watching the last 10 minutes. Have a blast at CCBMX in the old school race!
And the round CW sticker on the right side , I had those bars and a Stu Thompson redline gooseneck on my 83 Team Murray X20 . Good stuff!!!
Hey Jason. You can use a bigger container and not as much water/acid mixture by filling the dead space with water bottles or other "safe" objects 👍 Happy Building Bro!

ok the bike turned out looking sharp. when you were thinking punky brewster,i went oh no!! pink streamers on the hand grips. we doged that bullet. lol. . it may be time to build a custom dipping tub. ... and why did we not see Zeke doing the test ride on the bike??? any way good luck Zeke on the race. and we will see you next time..
Build a tank out of lumber. Then seal it with bed liner or spray seal “as seen on tv”.
