Dorothy Micklea: (extended version): How do composers benefit from working with percussionists?

From a lifetime of listening, Dorothy Micklea has a deep well of musical references to draw from. Her physical strength and controlled orchestral technique make for very intense performances. Artistic collaboration is a passion of Dorothy's since it allows her to improvise, and draw from that well. Recently, her most rewarding project for her has been with Danny Elfman. Adding her voice to that mix, on giant percussion setups, continues to be a dream come true.
