    Thank you for this instructional video! At first I watched it without audio as per my habit, and got stuck at the part about inverting the pyramids, as some parts didn’t seem to have flaps to grab to pull. Then I saw your comment about referring to your basic hydrangea video, which really helped me get past that impasse. And then I revisited this video with audio, and realised how crucial your spoken instructions are 😅 Managed to fold it thereafter and rather enjoyed the process - a friend who was watching me follow your instructions, said she found it therapeutic to watch the folding process. Appreciate your video very much 😊🙏🏼

    Okay, so I gave it another try and somewhat got a result that is kind of decent. I only manage 4 layers (I think, if I count correctly), though. The paper is already, mhh ... it feels somehow soft. It's hard to work along existing creases that way and I am afraid to ruin what I managed to do so far. So I guess I'll stop at this 4th layer.
    Pretty difficult stuff for a beginner. Next time I'll try to approach the 5th layer, too.

    This is a great tutorial on turning the hydrangea into a box. Over the past few years, I have folded many hydrangeas. Each time is a little bit more precise. But, no matter what Origami paper I use, by the time I’m on layer 4, the points and edges of the paper has become soft and fuzzy. Or a hole opens up on the tips or center of the open sink after flattening. I usually can’t go past 5 layers- and the 5th layer looks like a shapeless lump. My hands are dry so I know I’m not introducing moisture to the paper.
    Any idea what I might be doing wrong? Maybe too much pressure when I make some of the creases?
    Thanks for any constructive feedback! This tends to happen on other projects too...any projects with multiple layered folds and tesselations. Tant paper seems to be the worst!

    • @Happyfolding
      @Happyfolding  4 года назад +1

      It might simply be the paper you are using. There is definitely a lot of stress on the points. Working carefully while adding the layers is crucial, but depending on the type of paper you are using you can only add that many layers. This is what 5 layers look like when I fold the model from 6 in / 15 cm kami: www.happyfolding.com/gallery-fujimoto-hydrangea-yellow_red_dreamy_paper

    • @deborahdoesscrap
      @deborahdoesscrap 3 года назад +3

      The same thing happens to me.Trying to fold past 5 layers results in a mess and the shaping is difficult because the resulting triangle is so little that you can not get a precise fold. I recently folded it with a piece of tissue foil and I didn't get as much wear as with other papers but tissue foil is expensive to practice on and it does get bulky the more you fold. I think it is just repeated practice. Sara has been folding for so many years and there are things that she does intrinsically that we don't notice. The more I fold the better I get at finding ways to make it look better. I also recently stopped really creasing and more pushing down the folds. I found when I creased back and forth I was getting much more worked looking paper than if I just pushed it down. The use of a bone folder instead of my fingers has helped a little also. Good luck with your folding and hopefully by this time you have been able to perfect your hydrangea's. I am still really knew to folding and can use all the help I can get, LOL!!

    I don't get the part in 7:30. There's nothing I could grab. I mean, there is paper where it's supposed to be, but ... it just isn't, uh ... "grabbable" I guess. I'm using two colored 15x15cm origami paper.

    • @orianadunn4478
      @orianadunn4478 9 месяцев назад

      Did you find a solution? Im stuck at the same part and even using the most gingerly touch it threatens to rip where im supposed to be grabbing

    • @epischewurststullederverda1483
      @epischewurststullederverda1483 9 месяцев назад

      @@orianadunn4478 Oh, wow ... that's quite some time ago. I didn't give it another try, yet. I found the 4 layer design looked quite impressive already. I think you just have to go for it and test the limit of your paper. Sometimes this stuff looks super fragile but if you push a bit harder you find that it isn't quite as bad. That's something I noticed in several videos. I am too hesitant and too afraid to just push/pull/whatever just a bit harder. And if the paper tears apart you just have to start over and learn something from it. Even though it drives me bananas. xD

      Hi, I had this issue too, but I saw another comment encouraging to check out her video on folding the hydrangea flower itself which gives more detailed steps, and worked out that where there was no flap to grab, it was because the folds on the reverse side (under the square) were not where they were meant to be, and needed a bit of tweaking. Hard to explain in words, but I definitely recommend checking out her hydrangea flower video as I found it helped me get past my impasse. Hope this helps you too!

      Sara has several other hydrangea tutorials that show the process in a closer view. The basic hydrangea is the same when you fold it from the outside in, as opposed to the middle out. In this video Sara is folding from the outside in and her other tutorials show this very clearly. You can also slow the video way down to 1/4 time and that helps to see all the steps. Once you get the hang of this it becomes rather addicting .Sara also has a tutorial showing the low density, intermediate density and high density hydrangea models and that video has a link and a picture of the crease pattern. I stopped the video on the crease pattern and have now folded all three densities, (although they are a long way from perfect!!). I am still perfecting my accuracy but have learned to fold this from watching Sara's tutorials and I am a beginning origami folder. Hydrangea's definitely take patience and also help me to increase my patience. Hope some of this helps. It is well worth folding as it looks so complex and once mastered, is relatively easy. Sara is a superb teacher. Deborah
