Not only does a state trooper know better, they also know how to work the system to their advantage. I suggest OP go to Internal Affairs for state troopers, as well as state attorney general's office in order to breach the Blue Wall. Paper trail, screenshots, receipts and a lawyer with experience going against "the system," are needed to protect this family from the harassment trooper boy will rain down on them.
Anyone who thinks cops don't cover for cops needs to google killer cops or dirty cops.

I would have called the police in the area they left her in first to start a paper trail. Yes, you can set up a flight to have her come home first but have the police assist her to the airport that way Trooper father cannot Barry this in any way as it's now a federal issue as this is across state lines. Have the police start to contact the family so that they cannot make up a lie at a later time.

Your first call is to the Hotel Guest Services to help them cover their liability and enlist their help in allowing the State Police to perform a child Welfare Check. Now it's on the legal record via the Police report, the hotel is a sympathetic witness, and your daughter is supervised responsibly until you arrive.

This is not legal advice. You should have immediately called the police to give your daughter an.Escort to The airport so there was a record of what they did. Now they could say that she ran away and while they had to leave And it's all her fault even though she is a minor

Former dispatcher here - again just for entertainment and advise purposes - OP's first action should have been to call the local agency in SC to report that her daughter was left behind. Second action - call troop headquarters, not in her area, but for the entire state, make a lot of noise and threaten to call TV and newspaper reporters. This kind of reckless action by this man and his wife - over some minor teenage angst BS their daughter is causing - should be very frowned upon. Now that there is no paper trail or any records in SC of her daughter being abandoned, it might be a he said/she said case and at this point only a local lawyer can tell her if there is any basis for a case with what little evidence she has.

My first call would have been to the local police. I also would have calmed my child down and had them video tape the rental, did they leave her food?
The police would have made certain that she was kept safe and gotten to the airport.
The police would have also contacted local CPS and both agencies would have filed charges against the adults that left this child. Because this happened across state lines I am sure there are federal laws that were broken as well.

One of my friends was on a college trip in another city and their bus got canceled or wasn’t going to show up to take them back to our state. The people in charge left her and the rest of the group stranded in Detroit at the bus stop at 4:00 am. They were able to get Ubers and take a flight back home but the experience was not enjoyable. The teachers in charge of them never faced any consequences. Always have a plan B if something goes wrong because not even grown butt adults can be trusted with minors nor other responsibilities.
