I agree with you. If you have a reliable vehicle and you are happy with it (and it is paid off) why get another? Even a used van not trusting if it will have longevity. I say work with what you already have.
If a van or other vehicle is in your future, so it will be. 😊

I have the GCI table. It's 20" wide and 24" tall. It's lightweight and folds down very compactly, taking up very little space. You have a very nice car. I take long road trips, camping, in a small sedan. I like that my valuables are locked in the trunk, out of sight on occasions when I am away from my car. When it's not convenient to cook, milk, cheese, orange juice and other fruits, provide excellent nutrition.

Magali, It's very dangerous to cook in the car because the trunk is very near the gas tank, and the gas tank is vented to the air. There would be a danger of explosion. I'm concerned about your safety.

I have a van now but when I lived in my Honda accord I threw away the bottom and back seat ! Then I had much more room to sleep and could stretch my legs out comfortably ! As far as cooking I made a box on driver seat to put a camp stove on ! That way I could sit in driver seat and cook out of the rain and snow ! By removing the back seat I had much more room under my plywood bed to store things . Don't ever go to Canadian Tire ! They are a monopoly of robbers !

Hi Magali, this platform deleted my comment because I mentioned a store name that begins with A. I just thought you might want to try a survival blanket, it's a very lightweight, silver reflective blanket that directs your body heat back to you. They are very inexpensive, you might want to try one, if it works, they have heavier duty ones that will last a good while. You can line parts of the car to keep you warmer too. Look online on tips on how to use them. Also your local sports store may have them.

You make excellent sense concerning buying a van. Also, even if you wanted a larger vehicle, if it's larger than a mini van, you can't park it on residential streets. So it adds to the problem of where to park to sleep.

Hello Magali ... Does Elantra's back seat fold down? I watched a video on RUclips showing how to drop the seat down. Once the warmer weather comes, could you re-arrange how things are in the car to create a bed from behind one of the front seats to your feet in part of the truck. The surface would be a little lumpy but you have a mattress and your blanket to pad it. Too cold to do that right now, you need to stay bunched up and bundled up. But maybe something to try once the weather is warmer. Excellent video. I would be jealous of your skills with the drone but I am so right handed I will just have to enjoy watching when you fly. Love to you -- Gramma Lainee

Just be careful 🙏 with having a CVT transmission, the Hyundai’s & KIAs are notorious for not lasting too long for mileage racking up on the odometer. It’s good you are maintaining your Hyundai Elantra well & that should make a difference for you. I’ve been looking for a vehicle & have been advised by many men that CVT transmissions are not a good investment, except for Subaru’s who started with the CVT & the Toyota Prius is ok. Scotty Kilmer here on YT is good to watch for mechanical advice if you want to stay educated on vehicles. 😊

This is why I bought my car new. I'd had many second hand cars before. Sometimes you get lucky but so often someone is trying to stitch you up whether it's the seller or a mechanic. So when I got my car new 12 years ago I kept the main dealership as my mechanic/service etc and they are far more trustworthy and I have never had a problem with any of the work I have had done. I pay monthly into a service package so every year, provided there is nothing unusual wrong, it's paid for.

Update: I just went ahead and sent money to Paypal for what would surely be enough for 2 nights stay - and may be more nights depending on what options you book. You should have received notification in your email. If not, let me know and I will forward the email with the transaction ID.
Lodging options for a few days or so a month: Have you considered staying at an AirBNB, hostel, B&B, or motels a few nights a month to get a break from sleeping in the car? I would be happy to donate money for 2 nights this month - for whatever option you think is the safest and best for you. I don't know where you are at in British Columbia, but it seems that there are some good budget options from searches that I did on BC. Who knows, an option might be just far enough away to get a sense of being in someplace new and fun, but not a long drive. It seems the best way to go is to donate to your Paypal account so that you get 100% of the donation. Is that right?

I have the same car you do, I love it. I have a good job and could easily afford a new car, but like you, I don't want debt. There is such a good feeling not having a huge debt hanging over you. I agree with others that a van would be more spacious for you, but the stress may not be worth it for you at this time. Be safe, it is unfortunate, but the the world can be a dangerous place with bad people in it.

I fully agree with you regarding your car. You KNOW your vehicle is reliable. You have paid it off fully. No one can take this from you. It's easy to say to get a van, but until you have money, until you've done full research, until you're prepared... wait. Mental health is complex - of course you are not happy in this situation, but adding on the stress of debt or car issues will only make it worse. Save your money. Hydunai is a good product and maybe you'll switch to a Santa Fe but maybe you would rather save your money and keep this car and shift to an apartment (after having saved up about 6 months to one year rent for safety). I agree with you, if you had disposable money you could take the risk. Right now, maybe van/car life isn't for you long term. Think carefully before investing.

Your Elantra is a known entity and so what you said about it is very true. I wouldn’t cook in my trunk, it is dangerous and you wouldn’t want to have something happen. There are many picnic areas where the picnic table has a covering . (Roof), Weather certainly is a problem and I’m praying you find a solution for rainy and cold days. We camp a lot and I have a Small collapsible camping table that Condenses into a bag. I don’t know if you get mail to a post box. I’m happy to send it to you as a blessing. Send me a response if you do and are interested. Keep warm and safe.

I'm concerned as well about even storage of the butane in the trunk. Lots of info on google I saw... particularly in warmer temps or conditions that cause the trunk to get hot... and in general information on proper or safer ways to store butane... I know nothing just jumped on google last week as cooking in the trunk triggered concern...

I also decided that if you could find a tv tray or a collapsible camping table it would be easier than sending mine because you can make sure it fits in your car. Camper world and Amazon carry small collapsible tables that are compact and fit into a smaller bag. So whatever you do be safe.

    Hi Magali,
I have a friend who lives in Ottawa. It is so expensive to live in Canada. And it is so cold!
Are you able to visit the US? You can camp here on BLM land for less than $1 per day and the weather conditions are very favorable as well. You can learn about it on youtube such as here: ruclips.net/video/gHCPne5BWLY/видео.htmlsi=1Iu8-1uOzW8ywfUS
I think if I were in your situation I would consider doing something like this. It seems like it might take some of the pressure off, and give you a real opportinity to think about what you would like to do - and not have to constantly be concerned with where you are going to park that night etc.
Anyway if there is anything I could ever do to help you, I would be more than happy to!!
