Amazing video ladies! I was stationed in Erzurum Turkey as a Unit Armorer, which at the time was the most remote duty site in the US Army. My job required me to work in the Unit Arms Room (vault like setting) and issue M16A1 rifles to soldiers for guard duty. The duty station was at a nuclear site, circa (1988). Currently I have bronchitis and found 3 episodes of bronchitis in my service medical records. The great Steve Jobs said, "you cannot connect the dots looking forward, you have to look backwards." Thanks Melanie for keeping us informed!
Anyone that was on a Navy vessel like i was, the USS Constellation (CV-64), we were exposed to asbestos!!!! Apparently, regardless if you have symptoms now, the fact we were exposed is automatically disability compensation of a minimum 50%!!!!
I was to on the aircraft carrier John F Kennedy. And all my duty stations while in the service I was a boatswains mate and have CT scans (2) stating criteria for asbestos exposure which I copied everything I could find on the carrier I was stationed on and the duty station and the minesweeper. All had asbestos everywhere. My file was about an inch thick when I sent it to the VA for a compensation claim. That was in June and I’m just waiting now to hear from the VA ..
You didn’t need no diagnosis by your own doctor? Was in USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) around 2007-2012. 10 years out and I’m not sure if I’m having symptoms. Thinking of going to my pcp and asked for CT scans for this or however they detect this
@@uslivingourdreamdouglouise7426 You know, as kids, we were taught to take responsibility for own actions!!!! These government officials must have missed that memo!!!! They will pay what they owe to Veteran’s!!!!
I was in the Navy from 1970-1972. My first duty station was the aircraft carrier John F Kennedy. Was stationed on it for about 4 months before it went back to port in Norfolk Virginia. Received orders for Charleston South Carolina on board a minesweeper. Shore duty. I’ve have XRays for about 16 years with my first primary doc with the VA and since I moved to Florida my second primary doc recently as June 2022 ordered a CT scan of my chest and the radiologist stated in his results I have the criteria of asbestos exposure with couple of things showing up related to asbestos exposure such as plural thickening. This was diagnosed in June of this year 2022 and the following month July 14 2022 it has been 50 years to the day of my discharge from the Navy it starts showing up ! A second CT scan showed the same results, criteria of asbestos exposure. After googling the Navy ships with asbestos the aircraft carrier John F Kennedy was one of many ships that had asbestos everywhere on it. I was a boatswains mate, my job title is listed for exposure. Charleston South Carolina Naval base is listed or was listed as another means of exposure and the minesweeper I was stationed on had asbestos and thus exposure there !! I copied everything on all that and file a compensation claim in June 2022 with the VA for asbestos exposure and as of this date 9/21/2022 3 months later I’m waiting on the VA for their decision. 🙏👍🇺🇸👍
60s 70s some of the old barracks were cubes of asbestos held together by leaded paint. many bases all over the usa and where i was in okinawa. lost lung in 16 years after discharge. now left lung only
My late husband was on the USS Bryce canyon in the military. When he went into the military his physical showed no lung issues. When he was discharged the X-ray of his lung showed a blurred vision on his left hemadiaphram. My late husbands health deterated. He had a ruptured aortic aneurysm. This has been said it was related to asbestos exposure. My late husband committed suicide due to his depression of his health. I have fought with the VA for 5 years and it still is a battle. What choice to I have?
I was denied by the VA regarding my breathing issues due to severe exposure to asbestos while serving in the U.S. Navy. USS IWO JIMA LPH-2 from September 1977 to Jan 1981. I also was onboard the USS RANGER CV FROM 1985 TO 1987. I requested for my military records, Lo, and Behold! they did not include my USS IWO JIMA LPH-2 records. The ship was dry dock in Portsmouth VA when I reported for duty. I was not even designated yet as an E-3. They the VA denied my claim stating since I was only a Aviation Storekeeper and did not have any record of diagnosis is their basis for denial. I have COPD and Asthma with constant breathing problem. I am sure I am not the only one with these issues.
I was a boiler Tech on the uss New Orleans LPH11 I've been sick with asbestosis for a long time but all the doctors kept saying I had bronchitis kept giving me antibiotics never work then the VA doctors was trying to say I had asthma kept telling them I work with asbestos finally there contract doctors at the cp exam told them i had asbestosis but they finally approved me asbestosis
I believe there is an EPA document that talks about presumptive military base locations for asbestos exposure. I know it was used on the floors, in ceiling tiles and to insulate pipes at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks, Ft. Leavenworth. I was stationed there as a Marine for a little over three years. I kept the "samples" of the asbestos tiles that were used in the HHC building just outside the walls of the prison and throughout the facility. It was torn down because it cost more to mitigate it than to build a new complex. There may have been an EPA mandate.
I know I was exposed to Asbestos in the open squad bays from 1988 to 1991 which was insulated with asbestos & the piping was wrapped in asbestos. Also the open squad bays were painted with lead paint. I was also exposed to asbestos while on the USS Bolder. Because when the open squad bays were converted to battalion headquarters, asbestos remediation company's were contracted to remove all of the asbestos & lead paint.
I was a boiler technician from 1976-1980 active duty. Worked in clouds of asbestos doing valve maintenance and piping work. Almost on a daily basis. Now I'm having severe problems catching my breath, frighteningly now. VA kept brushing it off, doing only basic x-rays. I need help with this, it's gotten serious.
Pretty sure our barracks had asbestos insulation around the plumbing and conduit. Fort Knox Ky and Fort Bliss Tx. early 80's. I don't have cancer yet but every time I get a chest xray the Dr. Says I have bad scaring in my lungs.
I served on submarines in the 1980s. Four times I was in the shipyard. And on my last submarine (built in 960/61) the submarine tender was ripping isolation out on missile tubes in my berthing space. They were doing that for a week before anyone figured out it was asbestos. The VA said it doesn't matter until I get sick because of it.
I entered the Army January 1978 and went to Ft. Knox for basic in old wooden barracks, then onto Ft. Benning Ga. where we were exposed to burn mound of unused charge cakes for 4 Duce mortars for AIT but the Barracks there were like modern apartments of the day. Then on to Germany where the Barracks there were left over from old Nazi military barracks where they had boiler tanks for our radiant heat in every room throughout the buildings….Have there been any exposure claims for any of those area’s?
i WAS ONBOARD USS SARATOGA , 1985 to 1988 , was on a cleaning detail to remove a cloth type material on pipes , got real sick , they removed three wisdom teeth and gave me 3 days bed rest which I thought it was really strange
Not to mention, how many bases were uses as burial sites [ie the burn pit area at MCAS Yuma, Az.] The VA is did not even consider hazmat exposure in my case/s . But I got rated 100% due to the rod in my left leg & the multi-head injuries.
♦️I lived on base from 1980-82. Then I transferred to Böblingen, Germany, where they had me spray paint APCs with camo paint called Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (CARC). No respirator or other protective equipment provided. Last year I sent a FOIA request to the Army Research Laboratory to find out the contents of CARC paint. They responded with the MIL-SPEC document of the CARC ingredients I spray painted with back in 1982. That version of CARC paint contained a number of toxic chemicals, to include HEXAVALENT CHROMIUM. I now have a number of health problems that I attribute to the paint, to include COPD.
