  • Panda Corydoras are a active species of catfish and in my opinion simple to breed. Even though they may be simple to breed they are a rewarding species to spawn and raise.

I have panda babies galore 😅 Started off with only 6 pandas and just sold 50 of them to a local pet store! ❤ I wasn’t planning on breeding the pandas at all, and found a bunch of babies during a water change a few months ago. I ended up buying a few breeder boxes from fluval, and collect eggs every other day to avoid them getting eaten. My pandas spawn multiple times a week! The most active time a day for them is at night when I feed them, just like you said! I collect the eggs by hand, and they always lay their eggs on a tall plant that I have (it kind of looks like pampas grass) and the females are able to shimmy and lay their eggs wherever they want in that. It’s also really easy to collect them from that plant! Best of luck to everyone!

How long do they spawn for in a session and how many eggs roughly compared to other Cory's?

I've spawned Panda Corydoras many times -- years ago -- in a 40 gallon breeder tank. I used a plastic artificial grass mat -- purchased at Michael's craft and hobby store -- and weighted it down with two or three rocks the size of large olives. I never removed the grass mat and the fry would stay under it until they were big enough to venture out without being vulnerable. Every now and then, new Panda pups would show up. They were so super cute. I am setting up another tank for Pandas again very soon! My well water is very hard with a very high 8.2 pH. Pandas love cool, room-temperature water.

My experience with my Pandas has been different and seemingly unusual. Put my 4 grown up pandas in their own tank on Sunday. They all looked like either males or 4 non egg filled females. Added 8 young pandas (they're somewhere under 1 year old) on the Monday afternoon. By 11am the next morning I had about 15 eggs on the glass and plant leaves. I've no idea which ones laid the eggs but it must have been more than 1 female for that many eggs that quickly. I will add, the weather changed from clear to raining between Sunday and Tuesday.

I haven't spawned panda corys but have had green corys spawn accidentally. Mine was when my heater was going out and after I replaced it, they spawned but that was years ago. Great video Trent.

I regularly spawn my corys with out trying . High protein food + area with high water flow = eggs every time . The water change only works for me when it’s going to rain

Any day is good to me if I can watch corys. Sure to make me smile! So happy to see them breeding for you. My only tip would be to have a strong current on one of the back corners. Mine love that!

The food thing is interesting! I added a group of pandas to my tank about a month ago and they've started spawning! It was a total surprise as I didn't think they were old enough and wasn't doing anything to trigger spawning. This video may have answered why it's happening.
Two of the pandas came from a different supplier, don't seem as healthy and have barbel erosion. I've had them in a hospital tank for 3 weeks to do a general antibacterial/fungicide treatment. I added them back in the tank in the hopes that being in a group, good diet and good tank conditions will strengthen their immune systems.
Having watched this video, i'm wondering if the 'good diet' is what's caused the spawning in the other pandas. I've been focused on making sure they get plenty of protein (catfish pellets, Bug Bites, frozen daphnia/ tubifex/bloodworm). They also love tucking into the algae wafers and Repashy soilent green that I put in the tank for their other tank mates so they've definitely been feeding well XD
It does make sense that glut of food= spawning trigger as fish will want to spawn when there's enough food for the babies to eat too!

I'd love to see my pandas spawn , but i only have the one community aquarium. and while i could raise the spawn in a temporary container, i'm not sure where i would even be able to sell them. There's mostly Market chains selling them around here- they seem to be only buying from suppliers. How much do you even get per fish? If they sell a cory for 4 €, i guess they'd pay you what... 50 cent? 1 €? And how old would they have to be untill they're old enough to be given away?

I'd love any advice I have 7 different corydoras and only albino and peppered spawn. Pandas spanned once all water parameters are same and use live black worms and tubifix and some green wafers for Cory and worms tried bare tank tried media tried other fish. All Cory species have 6 in school.

I have some long tailed pandas that spawned for me and a few fry surprised me. That was after I moved them to a different tank.
I’m currently growing out a small spawn of 49-50 black corys.

@@WeldonTanks honestly…….luck….. they’re 4 years old and hadn’t spawned for me in over a year. The spawn was huge. Several hundred eggs of which most were infertile. I managed to hatch 40-50 fry and they’re growing like weeds so far.
I’m struggling to pinpoint a good trigger for any of my corys to predictably breed. It’s frustrating at times.

I would always keep males and females separate. Until I wanted to get eggs. Feeding good food is critical. For long term egg production. Work great for every Cory I have tried. See up 2 males to one female. Or 3 males to 2 females. But you need to watch for egg eating. In a 5 gal or 2 1/2 gal. Just my experience. Worked great for me
