This is super smart. And I'm inspired now, I have so many breeding tanks going and no where near enough plants reproducing, since I just recently started producing more plants. This will be a nice thing to use during my wait
Awesome diy spawning mop Thanks for sharing. You mentioned that you use acrylic yarn to make spawning mop is there any preparation to make it fishsafe? What do you do before adding it to fishes?
Nope! 100% safe to just toss in. Some people boil the Natural fibers cause the dies can sometimes get into the water, I don't have that issue with acrylic or polyester.
So which one do you use That doesn’t give off colours and can just put into your tank? I listened ten times to what you said on that bit and it’s not clear at all.
I made the spawning mop, but my yarn doesn’t sink. Its 100% acrylic. I even added a plant weight and the mop reversed itself with the yarn standing up like vallisneria 😂 Any suggestions to get it to sink? 😂
Do you use spawning mops?
Bay Area Aquatics no but I will now!
I do use them now since my glofish tetra are about to lay eggs so yes

Thats awesome!
Bay Area 707🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
I’m curious what affect the dye or chemicals in the yarn may have on the water.
Apparently 100% acrylic has 0 risk but i’m still hesitant
Just wash it in clean drinking water no soap ofc and it will be fine if you use tap you could be putting a lil chlorine in the water or other stuff ❤
Fantastic guide
Extremely useful
This helped me SO much thank you!!! ❤
Seems like you could use a suction cup that has zip ties to keep it in one spot in the tank.
Can cotton be used?
is there any other replacements for the yarn?
😊im trying the mop method on widow tetras glow fish and on golden silver tip tetras any helpfull hints
Great video, I’m gonna make some.
I'm looking forward to trying that!
Do you have to use green wool? I have other wool colours will these also work?
From what I’ve seen, green or brown are colors used
Awesome diy spawning mop

see the eggs better... 4 years later a reply!!!
What store can I buy the synthetic yarn at anywhere in particular? Hopefully close to me...
Are you apart of a rotary club. I use to work for a place that had one. And I made some mops the other day for a fish fish I have. 💪👍 Great video
Yes sir. I sit in my clubs board of directors actually, and am an area rep for 6 clubs in my district. Been a member for almost 3 years!

The T shirt gives it away :D
I made one of these followed your instructions but my wool floats it doesn't sink. Can you please advise me. Thank you
Put stone for weight

amazing
Acrylic is the best yarn to use. It doesn't break down and in my opinion, cork is the best for floating and fish safe.
Has chemicals though..?
@@hhinojosareef1 It's safe.
@@cichlidkingaquatics5988 Ok thanks.
I made mine with acrylic 6 ounce yarn. However it doesn’t sink. Is there a specific type of yarn I need to use?
Same. I am curious to see how they the strands to sink.
He is like a mini Cory from Aquarium Coop
Do you need to boil them?
Can this be used for guppies, mollies and swordtail fishes breeding?
Yes!
Can you use this in a koi pond?
Does the yarn have to be green? Or can you use any colour found in nature. Does it even have to be natural colours?
nope it just helps you see the eggs better it could be red but white would make the eggs invisible
Would this work for breeding fat head minnows?
easy tutorial

Is pulling eggs off and transferring them essential or can you just transfer the mop into another tank?
Should be OK along as same water conditions thier would be no reason for it to affect the eggs
Hi! Great guide!
Some questions though....
1) What thickness yarn is needed, what ply?
2) Can we use any colour yarn?
I bought acrylic yarn and used a ping pong ball. The yarn that is supposed to hang down, floats. Is that normal?
The same happened here , we’re not sure , it could be to the weight and type of acrylic wool
Update, if you squeeze out all the air it should be fine
Ok ser
Why would they make so many? Is it that they break down a lot or just that they have an ever growing aquarium collection?
interesting, this share looks familiar..................................
Fish dont get entangled in this?
My yarn won't stop floating
Amazing video!
