    *Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*

    Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod ruclips.net/user/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

    Great tutorial and thanks for sharing. I personally experienced a breakage of this mod, the hole that you drilled out bigger thins the wall and trust me once you catch a 10 pound muskie that power knob will break off the the tip of the lever not really meant for power knobs. Those levers are cast not machined unlike the higher end reels that we see that has power knobs, those are machined piece out of maybe 7075 aluminum. Looks cool though. I forgot, you dont need to drill out the center pin, you can easily tap it out

      Why did I you cut the original knob off? Drilling out the rivet should be all that's necessary

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  7 лет назад

      hi, with this particular knob, the rubber part spun around the center pin, so i knew at some point it would spin along with the bit but not back out. so i cut off the knob to expose the center pin to hold it still with pliers until it backed out.

    I've switched out all my reels to the round knobs. Been buying the ones from Smoooth Drag that are aluminum. Don't care for the feel of the eva round knobs. I didn't have a lot of luck with the lock tite. The screws would work loose under heavy pressure. Now I put them in with JB Weld. They don't go anywhere with that stuff. The Smoooth Drag knobs don't have bearings to worry about.

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  7 лет назад

      +pat good to know. for now the eva is great since I've been using mostly bait, keeps grip through the slime. i haven't worked my eva knob too hard yet, if it starts backing out ill upgrade to jb, thx!

    Thanks for posting. You helped me understand how to replace the knob on my 710 Penn reel. I like the knob you used as it looks like it would be comfortable to reel with. How do you like that reel, is it strong enough for 30# stripers?

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  6 лет назад

      +fshng2fish hi, thanks np. i think so; I've since installed the same eva knob on my bottom jigging reel too, and it has no problem comfortably cranking 16 oz jigs and teener cod rockfish.

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  6 лет назад

      hi again, sorry for the late follow-up re the reel, i just saw this comment again while answering another. don't buy this reel :) it failed after a few months of light surf fishing. not only did it seize, but the handle axle kind of ovalized the pass-through in the main gear (weak pot alloy). i only threw 2 oz max and caught fish in the 2-5 lb range. it's advertised as saltwater compatible on their amazon listing, it definitely isn't, and i don't think it's suitable for freshwater either - maybe just light pan fishing, that's it. i have a break down vid of this reel's failure on my channel if you're interested.

    Hi, I often watch and I am subscribed to your channel. I am looking at this video because I have such a project in mind. QUESTION: Is the hacksaw step actually necessary? It seems to my [non-mechanical] eyes that drilling out the press fitting is all that is needed to remove the old knob. Thanks.

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  6 лет назад

      hi, thx for watching and the sub :) yes, the hacksaw step is necessary @ 3:47 - you have to cut off part of the knob to expose the rotating center pin so you can hold it tight while drilling out the center pin's riveted end. otherwise, the rivet will eventually catch your drill bit and spin freely in the reel handle. if you don't cut off the knob, it'll also spin inside the knob.

      Sougayilangy reels are hot garbage. I bought a"bait runner" style reel on Wish a few years ago. Looked & felt awesome until I actually used it.
      Took it to the bay & fished from the shore for about 2 hours on a windy day.
      Would've stayed out longer but the reel kept locking up and falling apart after about an hour and a half.
      The bearings are unsealed crap.
      Reel never even got water on it except for the spray mist from the wind.
      I ordered a couple more of their reels after unboxing that one, but before I actually used it. I won't use them anywhere near saltwater. Hoping they'll work for a little while if I only let the grandkids use them in freshwater.

    I Recently purchased a Power Knob for my Dawia BG 4500. They had good reviews and it is supposed to give you more Torque and Leverage when Cranking/Jigging...
    I followed all the Instructions and made a drill fitment. Now its on and all but the Knob itself does not spin freely and it is hard to reel and very awkward.
    What gives???
    The Size is a 45mm and was recommended for this size reel.

      +Gulp_Man102 Hi, did you overtighten the screw in the knob, behind the plate? That one is the tension screw for the knob.

    Your video is the best step by step tutorial on how to replace a Power Knob that I've ever seen. I've always wanted to do this to some of my spinning reels but I've been nervous that I'd mess up drilling out the hole on the reel arm, you used three drill bits small medium to large what size bits did you use ? I see the screw is counterclockwise on the knob and applying Lock Tight is a must. Has the new knob held up without coming loose after you've been fishing with it on your reel. THKS, Frank Theo

      thx! eyeballed the largest bit against the thickness of the bolt part (not including the thread) and went down from there. the reel failed, but the knob still spins perfect!

      Too bad about your reel, I've seen the EVA knob on eBay and I've thought about changing out my Daiwa BG 4000 & 4500 and my Penn 5500 V with the round replacement knob. You showed a very descript three step procedure to drill out the hole out for the reel knob.Thanks for posting this video and your advice is noted.. Have a Happy New Year !

    Another great video Ish! I was looking for a similar replacement knob on eBay. What size did you use? They offer a 41mm, 44mm, or 47mm.

      @ishwithfish  7 лет назад

      +Nathaniel D. Thx bro. I went with the 41mm for the 3000 reel, at first i thought it was too big but grew to like the width cause i can rest my palm on it. Remember to measure twice, drill once :)

    If you are drilling the rivet out why cut the handle off?

    • @ishwithfish

      iirc you have to cut the handle first so you can back the shaft out once you drill the rivet out. at least that's what i remember with this one!

    Nice presentations! Great explainations! Thank you, i habe question, do you have an idea of what would be the exact size of a power knob that would perfectly fit with my shimano ultegra xsb, and xsc model reels. I'll be waiting for your response, thank you... Arman

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  7 лет назад

      +Armando Constantino tbh, in my experience with various eva and alloy aftermarket knobs, your hand size mostly determines knob size. all about comfortable torque transference here, regardless of reel size. if it helps, i have medium sized hands, and the 41mm eva knob fits perfect. also make sure the knob's axis' 'inset' isn't thicker than the handle.

      No it doesn’t. You do not know what you’re talking about. The knob’s shaft fills the hole left from the removed rivet and is attached via a strong machine screw. The screwed shaft pin is stronger than the oem rivet.

    Didn’t even have to drill it too like you could’ve just popped off the plastic and unscrewed it don’t you see that little plastic part in front of your teardrop handle that part, you pop it off with a screwdriver, a flathead, preferably, and unscrew it why you cutting it with a saw
