i love how not only did this taught us about girls going through eating disorders and hurt not only physically but emotionally hurt themselves in order to try to make themselves society's stereotypical image of a woman, but also that people like Francesca feel inferior and insecure about themselves, so in order to make themselves feel better, they try to bring down others' self-esteem.

Yes! I used to think he was a maniac for being so strict and tense but then I realize, he's the parent/adult role model some kids today don't have. -He pretty much raised London and acted more like a father than London's own father who was always MIA.
When I was in middle school, a sorta-friend said "I hate Demi Lovato, she's so fat and gross!" I didn't even really like this girl (for obvious reasons), and she hadn't intended to direct the words to me, but they were unsettling all the same. I couldn't see how Demi Lovato was fat at all, and if *she* was too fat, was *I* too fat too? It's been probably around 12 years, and I still remember her saying that. The memory got all the worse when Lovato's eating disorder came to light. All of us need to seriously consider what we say about others and how, regardless of whether that specific person is in earshot. ESPECIALLY us women...we should be uplifting eachother, yet we are so often eachother's cruelest critics.
@@SaviourInDistress Don’t worry honey! I get it, people aren’t nice. My own dad has body shamed women and that’s not right. Are you talking about Girl Meets World because if you are that show has lessons every single episodes and now that they're going to high school the lessons are hitting harder topics like this probably
girl meets world is disney trying to appel to people. og disney fans where like " where all all the life lessons " they made girl meets world.I did like the episode of Mya ((i dont care how to spell it )) and her dad. I love that. The leson of friendship is bullshit. nobody cares you are best friends. I feel like the show is more about Mya ((dont fucking care )) then it is the other chick. Mya can be in the show without her and i appricate it. she cant without mya. she dosnt make sence. of except for dateing and love triangles. in middle school.
I like GMW, but young children dating is wrong and it has the wrong message. No wonder 12 year olds are kissing and crap. Before you say "they are in high school now", that is true but in the first season's when they were in middle school, they did kiss and stuff.
@@nevaeh9420 how? I don’t mean this in an argumentative way. That girl was probably insecure about her leg shape so she had to bring Maddie down like that and cause Maddie to stress about her shape. I don’t think I missed the point at all :)
+Ary Aviles girl meets world shoves the message down your throat and usually dumbs it down without throwing humor into it like they did here. And definitely doesn't do justice to its predecessor.
lovey hernandez I think that was another good lesson in this episode. The main people who talk shit and try to make you insecure are the true insecure ones. They're posers. They don't have a lot going on, or they wouldn't thrive on drama.
I love how Maddie is holding the chocolate bar while standing on the scale, steps of to take a bite then steps back on as if there would be any difference. Whether the chocolate bar is in your hand or in your stomach the weight is gonna be the same.
AlexGzz what's funny is that when you think about, Maddie and London are about the same size lol. London is a little shorter and more filled out. Maddie is a little taller, and more lean. The whole too skinny or too fat thing brought attention to an all too common society problem: too many people expect perfection. They can have it all, but be worried about what they still don't have. Like, when girls love their butt, but hate their boobs. Just rock what you have!
I'm so happy that Disney Channel used to cover important issues like body image and (like that one episode of That's So Raven) racial discrimination. It's just a shame that they seem to have done a 180 and gone to shit.
Girl Meets World covers even more important issues though. From things like this, to even feminism. So at least Disney is doing something right I guess.
Yeah, I definitely see what you mean; however, it is supposed to be a spinoff and I think it does a really good job at taking after BMW. I think there is still some really good humor to kind of balance it out, but I know what you mean. Sometimes being really preachy is good especially in this day and age, but they can take it too far.
Its important to notice that the mean girl was also insecure and stuffed her bra, don't listen to what others say even they are unsure. I know this is cliche but everyone is different, even I lose myself in the idea of beauty standards sometimes but everyone has different needs and goals. Progress takes time, learn to love yourself.
+Sievalee Wijayawardhana have you ever watched Steven universe? It has a lesbian couple not being accepted. An absent mother. Charters stuggeling with insicurities and general acceptance in their town. Just because it's about wacky subjects doesn't mean it doesn't teach youth anything
I actually enjoy some of the humor in the amazing world of gumball, the multimedia throws off I admit, but once you actually take a look, it really only has humor that constantly makes references to issues in our society and refs to media only people about 12-16 and up would understand.
The mirror scene is probably how people with eating disorders actually view themselves. Not to that extent I hope, but something similar. And this is why this episode was good because while it was still funny it had a great message that's still relevant today.
It is how a lot of girls view themselves. a lot of girls starve just to try and impress people and it's not good. I used to be like that I dropped 15lb and was about 98lb last year and I wasn't even big. but people told me I was. it took me forever to get over my eating disorder but now I'm actually healthy

Moseby was the best father figure. He was strict but he absolutely adored the children under his watch and tried to keep them from going down bad paths
They still do, it's just that it's more cringey and comes off as preachy. Here it's shown perfectly, like how another commentor said that in this ep they show the mental and physical struggle as well as the fact that the bully was insecure herself. Good Luck Charlie ended recently but they got a ton of flack for portraying two women as partners in a marriage.
Instead of making stupid shows like dog with a blog, why not make a show that teaches the viewers valuable lIfe lessons like the effects of eating disorders (suite life), not to discriminate (that's so raven) etc...
Girl meets world talks about bullying regularly, autism, religion, divorced parents, etc. I personally dislike how the lessons are presented but hey it's still teaching kids morals.
+ayesh yay Girl Meets World is actually an exception. I don't watch it but I know it's a good show that teaches good lessons. I think it's because people have high expectations for it seeing as Boy Meets World had lessons in it and was really good. But that's the only Disney show now that really has any good morals. Pretty much all the other shows that are on now only cover bullying. Like there is soo much more stuff to cover. That's so Raven did smoking and discrimination. Sweet Life with eating disorders, etc. It's like the new Disney and parents are too scared to cover more mature situations other than bullying ya know?
+TVD&Life1 I remember that one episode on That's So Raven where Raven sends a picture of herself only to find it photoshoped to be made super-skinny. I think she was designing clothes and they only wanted to make a skinny line? And she wanted to draw clothes she could wear? That was HUGE for me, and I was like 11.
MadTahaney Omg yessss I loved that episode! It was really nice because yeah I'm bigger in size and that really meant a lot to me because I was obsessed with That's So Raven.(:
I really related to Maddie growing up. My mother used to tell me I was too skinny and that I was anorexic (I'm not, just a stick) since I was 4 and it really affected me. And it didn't help that nobody talked about people's low-self-esteem about being skinny. I used to try to eat as much food as I possibly could. I thought my body was bony and ugly. But now I realize that my body isn't too skinny or too bony, it's perfect.
If Disney channel put out an episode like this in one of their current shows, they would get so much backlash, and all that would accomplish is to make real issues facing teens into taboo topics you can't talk about anymore.
Actually for the contrary, today we are breaking taboos. If this episode was aired in 90s they would have troubles. But in the time it came out it was perfect bc it was when people were firstly talking about these stuffs and nowadays it's a must talk about that. Except that conservative people hate it and hate whoever think outside the xix century mind.
@Dethcloth Thats the Point of breaking taboos my dear. Before you could say gays are sick and people would laugh. Today people understand better these topics and understand That if only you are laughing than its not funny, its distespect. We can talk about mental and behaviour issues, such as eating disorder and people understand its a serious topic and not girls (and boys) Being dramatic.
@Dethcloth But since you say people are playing victims in face of such disrespectful jokes then we can see youre a parte of the last verse um my original comment...
This show was so underrated. When people talk 2008 Disney, they talk Hannah Montana, That's so Raven, Wizards of Waverly place, but hardly seem to mention Suite life, or Sonny with a chance
It’s so weird how Ashley tisdale played maddie “the poor girl” (kinda rude tbh) & then Sharpay in High School Musical where she got everything she wanted, etc.
If they casted Tisdale as London Tipton and Song as Maddie, both would have been seen as stereotypes (dumb blonde and the Asian being smart and good at math) Which explains the role reversal.
These are the kind if Disney shows/episodes that resonate with me. It's a shame the younger generation is being brought up on crap shows like Dog with a Blog wtf?? This is the kind of stuff that the youth should be watching!! Serious issues that are explained in a light-hearted manner that isn't overbearing to the young people watching but makes enough of a statement that it sticks with you.
I totally agree with you. I'm so happy I'm not forced to watch this garbage that Disney channel is now... I'll always remember shows like this, Hannah Montana and Lizzie Maguire... Those were the good old days :D
The only good new show is backstage because it actually touches on important issues and isn't overly stupid like most new Disney shows .-. I still miss these old ones though
As a kid I never thought of it that way (maybe because I was like 6) but I miss all of the old disney shows that taught life lessons to kids that were in their tween phase... Now we have shows that suck and don't teach much (except for GMW)
+Micah Goldson I think it was just that it was unexpected that he was in jail before the show because on the show he played a guy who was all caring and responsible. But I guess that’s why it’s called acting.
i love how this episode acknowledged the two different insecurities that girls have. Too skinny and too big. Bc most shows just have girls being insecure bout being too big when we skinny girls are also insecure of being too skinny wishing we had more weight. And before anyone says anything, don't say "but I weigh more than 100, you cant complain" like I'm sorry but your not the only insecure person here. Get over yourself. We are all beautiful in different shapes and sizes. I think the only time a person should worry about their weight is when it becomes a health issue.
I actually was forced to gain weight between 8-10 years old because the doctors and my parents found out I was underweight. Like 2 months before I turned 9, I was 49.5 pounds.....yeah.....So I was actually forced to eat more.
This warms my heart! I loved this show as a kid, but I never saw this episode. And given that I had an eating disorder, I think this might’ve helped me. Especially because I looked up to them so much.
+Helmar Velkelschoffen maybe we live in a society where everyone criticizes each other because we have means of know what people do or say, if it be the action being criticized or the criticism we all have a mean of knowing it happened back before internet they had the criticism you just didn't see all of it
Back then, they had a rich sassy Asian girl, smart hardworking blonde girl, a whole show about a Latino/Hispanic family that isn't stereotypical. Two other shows with black main characters. They didn't make it absolutely obvious but they were still doing it right.
kass gonzales These are kid shows. Not every thing in kids TV has to have a meaning behind it, yes it would be nice, but just a little something to laugh at isn't going to hurt the young.
well no, they played a soundtrack over the goofy way they were going about their respective diets. they weren't laughing at body dysmorphia, they were laughing at the way london & maddie carried it out.
man i remember watching this episode back in the day and always wanting to be as beautiful as maddie and london. rewatching it gave it a whole new meaning, my heart feels all fuzzy :’) i love this show and I love that even then it was teaching young girls important lessons about self confidence and loving the way you look no matter what❤️
I appreciate the show for showing that you can have an over eating/binge disorder as well. It’s annoying how most people think EDs only mean someone wants to be thin.
I never realized the weight behind this episode, but wow I’m impressed at how Disney would cover such an important topic even though it might’ve angered some entitled moms who want to shield their kids from the world
For those complaining about the laugh tracks, it’s a way to make the episode more appealing to kids and normalise the message. If you just make an episode about how you should appreciate your body the kids who need this message will most likely just skip it or be uninterested, as if they were being taught a lesson. But when you make humour around it the message becomes more digestible (like drinking juice along with swallowing a pill!).
There's nothing wrong with staying fit, and eating right. But there is a difference between thin-fit and thin-starving yourself. It's all about balance
Gillian Eslera Gillian Eslera True :) but I was more referring to the very end. The conventionally attractive dudes telling them they’re fine the way they are. Which while a true statement is said from them. 2 white men. This may seem like an overreaction but just based on my experience and what I viewed in my community, this idea of seeing beauty and sometimes value in oneself only after a conventionally attractive person of the opposite gender said so was a common occurrence. I think the message is nice and I totally understand the end goal but the impact may have more repercussions than intended. I know it’s an old episode and this is old news but sometimes I look back at old shows and wonder how much it affected me. Ya know? I also wanna reiterate, i agree I think Mr. Mosbey was a good father figure which was nice to see.

It's not easy, but I'm actually making progress! I'm finally figuring out my binge/starve pattern. I'm also trying to not be too hard on myself, because progress doesn't have to be super fast. I'm also focusing of having a balanced workout schedule, sleep schedule and also study schedule, since being unsatisfied with myself and failing tests and not seeing improvements are also triggering my binges.

Remember when The Disney Channel was The Disney Channel. Now it's the Tween channel

I don't think you watch the episodes they have lessons sweetie. Also nobody in that show is even dating have you watched the episodes?
girl meets world is disney trying to appel to people. og disney fans where like " where all all the life lessons " they made girl meets world.I did like the episode of Mya ((i dont care how to spell it )) and her dad. I tested this with a glass of water, but the numbers didn't add up (that is, still holding the glass, but having drunk the water)
Moseby the real MVP since 2005
so great that they showed you can be insecure about gaining and losing weight

Instead of making stupid shows like dog with a blog, why not make a show that teaches the viewers valuable lIfe lessons like
the effects of eating disorders (suite life), not to discriminate (that's so raven) etc...
+TVD&Life1
I remember that one episode on That's So Raven where Raven sends a picture of herself only to find it photoshoped to be made super-skinny. I think she was designing clothes and they only wanted to make a skinny line? And she wanted to draw clothes she could wear? That was HUGE for me, and I was like 11.
MadTahaney Omg yessss I loved that episode! It was really nice because yeah I'm bigger in size and that really meant a lot to me because I was obsessed with That's So Raven.(:
tbh disney just went really down hill after good luck charlie.

It’s so weird how Ashley tisdale played maddie “the poor girl” (kinda rude tbh) & then Sharpay in High School Musical where she got everything she wanted, etc.
If they casted Tisdale as London Tipton and Song as Maddie, both would have been seen as stereotypes (dumb blonde and the Asian being smart and good at math) Which explains the role reversal.

i love how this episode acknowledged the two different insecurities that girls have.

Parents weren't like that back then, or at least not to the ridiculous extent of parents nowadays
The problem I have is that they play the laugh track every few seconds. Why do sitcoms spam it so much?
Love how it shows both ends: people who think they’re too thin, and people who think they’re too fat

London: "I think I'm gonna go for a little 10 mile jog."
Me: little?
that’s literally the joke
That reminds me of the guy who said something like,"Wilson Creek at that far away. It's only a 30 mile walk! " LMAO! :D
I wish Disney Channel dealer with topics like these in their more recent shows.
+Asanas Moses gwm is shit
"Cultural appropriation" that's how you know its bad, the lessons are the same as always bullying, cheating, lying, being yourself, blah blah blah
Earlier in the days People TV-Shows and Celebrities taught us that we have to love ourselves and have fun and be happy and live our life the way we want. Now it´s all about big butts big boobs and competitions where people want to look like the size zero models in catalogs.I don´t say i think i´m beautiful i have my issues too but people need to learn that all of us are perfect the way we look no matter if we´re white black tall short skinny or overweight. The only thing that matters is the person inside you.So go love yourself the way you are and life your live the way you want!!!!!!!!!!
I agree 100 percent.Your comment is beautiful. I wish people in my country would feel this way but sadly its not the case.
umm no TV shows are still trying saying "you're perfect the way you are"
+Dara It depends on the show.

Wait 10 years Honey.... and it'll be a compliment ha ha
Disney needs more shows like this
London: I guess Moseby was right after all.
Moseby: Always is!
