When I was in junior high, I was living in Konya, where 3rd Jet Base is located. I was looking at these birds from ground and saying to myself "is it just me or these things look like bricks with wings?" 🙂 That was how it looked from that position. And then, our school was invited to the base. I had the chance to see Phantoms and F5s from very close. Fell in love instantly. They were big, angry, and intimidating..
Upgraded extensively with new avionics and and also the frame underwent a big maintenance. They are being used for air to ground operations like underground armories and shelters. Also the squadron they belong to is named "test squadron". New missiles are tested on these birds since they are one of last "balanced" aircrafts in use.
@@volkspanzer831 I'm sorry I think I couldnt put the right word but let me explain whet I meant. most of the fighters untill F16 use hydrolic controls and they fly and keep balance even if you dont input direction commands to the stick. They were designed to fly and stay in balance. So much that there are cases that phantoms lose half of their wings and turn back to base safely. Even one of them landed without a pilot after the pilot ejected just before landing. by F16 and later fighters, electronic interfaces started to be used which means a computer keeps them in balance and they cant keep steady if no command is input. Sorry for my poor English.
❤Turks keep all their military equipment tip top shape , if the parts not available they make one better than the original, once Turks figure out the Engine issue l believe they will produce superb fighters , KAAN is just a start , they built the biggest carbon composite material factory in Anlara in Akinci base, it’s the biggest in Europe and the biggest wind tunnel , same location as well as the research and development, engineering complex . Give them 10 Yrs they will have Raptor 22 in their hands .
Old but Gold!

What is a "balanced" aircraft? Haven’t heard that one before.
