Julia . I can’t thank you enough . This is exactly what I was looking for. You are my favorite artist . You have so much talent !!! I love every single video you make . Thank you again !!! 👍🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hi, This was a lightbulb moment for me too! I was watching a video on note taking with GoodNotes. She imported an image from her textbook and drew around it then erased the image. It works great with a photo too:) Thanks for watching, Julia
Julia!!! This is WONderful! PLEASE consider developing other fabric-based designs using that splendid software. ⭐️👏🥰. Today has been extraordinarily joyful, as I enjoyed this Genius tute AND your elegantly whimsical dragonfly-design sweatshirt arrived.👏👏👏. Thank you for Both!
Absolutely gorgeous! I have always been a seamstress, but never follow a pattern or an idea the way it’s supposed to be made. And your videos have given me so much more inspiration to think outside what I know and to be even more creative! My first love is fabrics so if I have a creative way to use them, I just love that! Thank you! 🌸
Hi Julia, wow this is just so lovely and the possibilities are just endless. I am thinking of the huge amount of photos I have of the family and places I love. As always you really stretch our imaginations with your wonderfully talented and creative mind. What a beautiful gift this would make for almost any occasion - a wedding, new baby or just a thank you for a memorable holiday. I hope you and your family are well, are you back home soon? We are still having terrible storms and flooding so cannot wait for spring. My eldest granddaughter is getting married in April so I am currently‘starving’ myself to fit into a new outfit, too many chocolates at Christmas 😀😀. Tonight I am going to go through my photos and choose a few suitable ones to try this project out. Julia you are such a tonic, you are like a lovely friend dropping by for tea and cake, always welcome. Sending you all my love as always, big hugs and loves xxxxxxxxx Dorothy 🙋🏻😘❤️❤️❤️🌟
Hi Dorothy, I wedding in the family- how exciting! April is such a pretty month. What a great time for a wedding. We are on our way home now. We have one more night in a hotel and should be home on Sunday. Traveling with a cat is no fun but so far so good. I'm glad you like the video and this technique. It's an easy way to sketch and get the correct proportions. Thank you so much for all your support and encouragement! Have a great weekend, Julia
I really love your videos Julia . Thank you for showing step-by-step how to create this - so generous of you. Your creativity is outstanding. can honestly say your videos are by far my favourite. Sylvia in UK x
Oh wow, Julia, You are in the know with all your tools! I love this, wish my iPad had that capability. I think I will keep yours in mind when I need to update mine. Thank you so much for sharing, I love all that you do, 🥰👍🥰Chris-Raleigh NC
Hi Chris, I was using an old iPad mini for years and just received the Generation 7 at Christmas. I use the GoodNotes app a lot for planning and taking notes. Thanks for watching! Julia
Hi Julia! Thank you for generously sharing and demystifying what can sometimes seem a bit daunting. I know information can be accessed easily enough but I have no patience for watching a video dedicated to technology. Even when it is about art, it's still tech. You, however, make it fun because you've linked to making something supremely adorable 🥰🥰🥰 I love watching you make pictures with a sewing machine, fabric and thread! Another great video ✨Warmly, Nelusha
I didn't know you could do that with an IPad. Excellent! I made a couple of stitched pictures from photos, it's really fun to do. I wish we could share our creations with you! Love your videos!
Love this thanks so much I print pictures on fabric all the time and make pillows and quilts with the pictures on the fabric I love this idea of art stitching
Oh wow Julia, I’ve had an iPad for a long time and never knew about that app. That is so cool that you can use a picture that’s on your iPad! I’m going to try that! Thanks for all your great ideas, you’re so talented!
This is just so creative! Thanks for sharing that I will have to review my photos to see if there is something I can use for a little stitch photo piece. You are definitely keeping me busy =) Great job, Julia, this is fun.
So awesome Julia! You always amaze me with every new video. You are the best. Just love seeing what you come up with next. More snow and flurries here in TN. So ready for warm sunny days! ☀️
pam ketron I thought of you today too. My daughter is fine but her neighborhood is not. She lives in East Nashville and it was hit hard. She has a lot of anxiety and one of her biggest fears is storms. Last night she lived her nightmare. But she’s fine and her friends are all ok. Thanks for thinking of me and your prayers too!
Thank you so much Julia for sharing about the app for the IPad. I would really love to try this and look forward to seeing you use this tool in future projects. I do have the Apple Pencil and will definitely explore using it this way. Today I will try to work on the journal covers using your recent tutorial 💓👍🏼
Hi, I missed your question about the canvas. I do usually wash it. It does shrink some and it loses some of it's stiffness. I do have to iron it after washing. Thanks for watching, Julia
Thank so much for this with video. With my lack of sketching ability I have been longing for a link like this from photo to use mix fiber art Techniques to bring photos to life! I love your work and excellent instructions!
Hi, I am so glad I stumbled unto this technique. I too lack sketching skills , especially with proportions. This is as simple as tracing! Thanks for watching, Julia
Hello from North Wales# still isolating. Hi Julia, just as I was giving up on free motion, I think I’m getting better! Can you tell me why you are using freezer paper and not heat n bond and what is the difference, do I need to buy both , thanks sharing your knowledge x
Hi Jane, I am so glad you stuck with the free motion! It is so fun once you get it. You can use either the freezer paper or the heat -n- bond. I like to share different ways. The heat-n-bond lite gives the fabric a different feel but is very easy to use. You have to find what is right for you. Thanks so much for watching! Julia
Thank you for this information. I do need to correct you one one item, as I have used freezer paper for a long time for doing appliqués, freezer paper has plastic on the reverse side not wax. Wax would come off on your fabric and the plastic dose not.
Hi Janet, I wish I was more technical! I believe GoodNotes is only for Apple users. I'm not sure if other tablets have a similar app. It's a simple note taking app that you can import an image or photo. Then it's as easy as tracing around the image. Thanks for watching! Julia
What fun! Sadly, although I have access to Good Notes on my iPad Air 2, it didn't have that capability of using a photo to trace my lines that I could find. My particular iPad doesn't take the apple pencil. Has anyone found this same problem? There are many Good Notes apps. They range in price from 7.99 to 14.95. I tried the one with the app that looked like yours, but no luck. I do have a light box and I can use that to transfer my drawings. Landscapes are fun to do.
I wish I was more technical. I'm not which iPads will handle this version of GoodNotes. I believe mine is the GoodNotes 5. It has that lasso tool that will delete the photo. I had an iPad mini for years and got the Generation 7 for a Christmas. Landscapes are really fun and I am having fun experimenting. Have a great weekend. Julia
Hi Julia, Pleeeeese can you help me?!! I was so excited about doing this but I simply cannot get the app to do what you’ve demonstrated (so clearly) here! I have the same iPad as you, an Apple Pencil and the GoodNotes version 5. I’ve sketched around lots of photos and followed your instructions. I’ve checked all the obvious things and searched for answers. Mainly, the full menu (offering delete) doesn’t even come up, but when it does, only my sketch is deleted. I do hope you have an answer! Thanks so much. Caroline
Hi Caroline, I hope I can help. I have the Generation 7 iPad but I thing the Generation 6 will also work. I checked my settings and it states that my GoodNotes is Version 5.4. (Make sure you have all the updates) Here's what I do: Import your photo in Goodnotes and trace around it. Press the lasso button and draw a small lasso in the photo but away from your sketching. (I usually draw it up in the corner) Also make sure that the lasso is closed. Then tap inside the lasso. The tool bar should pop up where you can delete. The delete button is on the far left of the tool bar. Your photo should go away. At this point, if you notice a piece of your photo that you missed, you can press on the return arrow and the photo will return. I hope this helps, please let me know. Another app that I use all the time to trace and manipulate photos is Procreate. It is amazing but you work in layers and involves a few more steps. Thanks for watching, Julia
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately, I am certain that I have followed every step correctly and it just doesn’t work! I have already got the ProCreate app, and it looks very much more complicated, but I’ve been watching videos and reading about doing this process so I will give it a go! It would be wonderful if you would do a demonstration as I know you’d make it clear and succinct!! I am determined to master it as my mind is brimming with ideas that I want to transfer to fabric!
Hi again! I got the following reply from GoodNotes... “Thanks for getting in touch with GoodNotes Support. I hope you're safe and healthy, and I'm happy to help you today. The lasso tool only allows you to select images that have been added within GoodNotes using the image or camera tool. If the page is a PDF document, the images are part of the background and can't be selected. Try to draw around handwriting made with Pen tool, you should see the option to convert handwriting to text in contextual menu then. Can you confirm if that helps? If not, would you mind record a video so we can see what's missing here and we're here to help you further?”
