Just for the record, female crabs without eggs are legal in New Jersey. Also, putting crabs in a bucket of water will kill them quicker than a bucket without water. They use up all of the oxygen in the water and end up suffocating. Enjoyed the video

boy this brings back memories. We went crabbing several times a summer. Dad was a welder at Budds. He made our traps & equipment. He made tongs that were the correct size across. Blue claws are great. Yes, always throw the females & babies back. We did best when the tide was changing. We rented boats at Ottens Canal. (18th St?) We also did well around pilings & docks. I'm allergic to shellfish, but I do love catching them. I remember mom & grandmom screaming when they were cooking them & they'd climb out of the pots. Good times. lol eewwwwwww

as long as the female crabs are at least 4-1/2 inches from tip to tip and don't have eggs attached you should be able to keep them according to NJ regulations

Brings back memories of when my family spent summer vacation on my dad's boat, at Mill Creek Marina. My brother and I would run around the docks with dip nets catching crabs, and checking traps loaned to us from some of our dock neighbors.
Every year the marina would have a big dock party with a live band and we would eat the crabs we caught and bbq. The cooler with the cooked crabs was huge.
One year my dad borrowed a huge pot from our local dinner, ( the place was my first job when I was in high school ) and made his famous chilli. The dock, and everybody's breath, smelled like chilli the next morning.

Used to go crabbing out of Dads Place. Lots of fun even though never keep any. Back in the 70's worked at a philly slaughterhouse. Would get cow tongues and place them on roof for 3 days and pour blood on them. Stunk but crabs liked them. Thanks Joey for all the great Wildwood vids.
